About this property
Lone Wolf Lodge - in Wallowa-Whitman Nat`l Forest
Lone Wolf Lodge was built in 2011 and renovated in 2019. It is a quiet, remote, nature lover’s location inside the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, on the way up Dooley Mountain. Being in the National Forest it is easy access to logging roads and almost endless hiking trails. Bring your ATV, hike to your heart’s content, or drive to the top of the mountain and enjoy the view.
The house sits on 10 acres of mountainside and stream bottomland. It has 2 downstairs bedrooms, one with a king size bed and one with a queen bed. It also has a large loft with 1 queen size bed, a queen pull out sofa sleeper and a full size futon. The single bathroom is large, containing a walk-in shower as well as the washer and dryer.
A full kitchen is complete with a kitchen table that seats 6+, coffee maker, keurig, French press, stove, dishwasher, microwave, and side by side refrigerator. The kitchen is open into the living room which has seating for 8+ and a large-screen tv with a Roku for access to your own accounts with Netflix, Prime, Hulu, etc.
The yard is fenced, with a rustic bench under the pines, to sit, listen to the stream gurgle, and watch as the sun comes over the mountain each morning. A stream runs just outside the fence behind the house, so children should be supervised when outdoors. Mule deer, wild turkeys, antelope, and elk have been seen on the hillside behind the house. Mountain lion, bear, and a wolf have been seen, on occasion, further up the road at higher altitude.
The yard/drive has keypad access with ample parking and a carport space for 2 vehicles. Access to the house is by smart lock.
A picnic table and gas grill are onsite for guests’ use. Due to forest fire concerns NO open fires are allowed!
Guests have the whole house and fenced yard to themselves. Keypad access is provided to driveway and to the home so guest can check in at their convenience.
We live on the East Coast so have limited availability but we have a local co-host in Baker that can assist you if needed.
Located in the National Forest, we are 14 miles from Baker City, 23 miles from the Steam Railroad in Sumpter via the Elkhorn Scenic Byway which passes Phillips Reservoir Recreation area, and 36 miles from Ski Anthony Lakes.

Way over on the eastern edge of the state, Baker City is a total Oregon treasure. With a population of roughly 10,000, Baker City is a one-of-a-kind town that will blow you away. It`s been named one of the `Coolest Towns in America,` and once you visit, you`ll immediately understand why. There`s plenty to see and do here, from lounging at cafes and exploring the local shops to visiting historic landmarks and even golfing. The town is also home to the Geiser Grand Hotel, one of the most historic -- and notoriously haunted -- places in Oregon, making it a must-visit for all ghost hunters, historians, and adventure seekers.
Lone Wolf Lodge is on a rustic, remote, and quiet gravel road inside the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The road dead ends at the beginning of the Forestry Service`s logging roads. You can hike or ride ATVs on the logging roads through old growth timber all the way to the top of Dooley Mountain. Care should be taken to respect private property along the way and be cautious of steep drop offs and losing your way!
Note: We are on a community maintained road about 1 mile off the main road. Because of this and the mountainous location, 4-wd drive vehicles are suggested Dec thru March. At times, we get accumulating snow when Baker only gets a dusting.
For the security of our guests we have a video camera outdoors pointing towards the property access.
Wifi is the fastest available at this rural location. Pings average around 28ms, download speeds around 74 to 124 mbps, and upload speeds around 30 to 70 mbps using Speedtest These speeds can vary with network congestion, but tend to be pretty consistent. Router is available to be restarted by guest if the need arises.
The lodge also has a cellular signal booster installed, so tethering to your mobile hotspot is also a viable option for internet connectivity.
During winter months it is recommended to have 4 wheel drive
Due to the proximity of the stream, children MUST be supervised when outdoors.
Due to forest fire danger, no open fires are allowed.
Smoking may be done on the carport only. Smoking materials must be placed in the designated receptical.
Stice`s Gulch Rd is a gravel road. Please be courteous and drive slowly past the homes to limit the dust.
During winter months 4 wheel drive is recommended.
