About this property

THANKSGIVING 2026 AT SUGAR BEAR! BOOK AT FALL PRICES! SKI AT DODGE RIDGE! BOOK!

Sugar Bear Cabin is at the top of the mountain located in the gateway to the High Sierras. You can avoid driving up the mountain to get to all of the winter-time activities. Also, our neighborhood keeps our roads plowed twice a day. We don't allow anyone to park in the cul de sac so it is kept clear for plowing.

We are nestled into a forest set back from the street. Enjoy this tree house like cabin that offers privacy and comfort.

We provide complimentary coffee, cocoa, tea and sugar condiments. We have instant hot water at our coffee station too.

We are a fully loaded cabin, just bring the food and fun! Check the amenities section. Don't bring up more than you have to. We try to stock the cabin to where all you need is your clothes and food.

We are upgrading the cabin to a 52" smart TV for streaming. We have loads of DVD's, and thousands of old school video games to enjoy! The whole family will have fun. We keep good books to read too. We added a brand new Queen bed and Mattress in the Game Room. This is NOT your Grand Ma's Cabin! Adults will enjoy the room as it has a door for privacy and adjacent to it is a full bathroom. The kids can sleep in the loft right outside of the room! There is one bedroom downstairs with another full bathroom. Sugar Bear can accommodate 8 guests comfortably.

Our location is near 2 grocery stores and a mini mart that sells fresh food. It doesn't price gouge either. It has the best burger and burritos around! All are located within 2 to 10 minutes directly off of highway 108 which is kept plowed.

Sugar Bear becomes magical in the winter-time. Up-close snow covered Sugar Pines with an extra large deck perfect for building frosty or other snow creatures! We keep 5 sleds to enjoy sledding. Pinecrest lake is 5 minutes away and great for kiddos to enjoy safe and free sledding. Grab cocoa at Pinecrest Market Hut or enjoy a winter BBQ! Leland snow park is just down the highway. It is a lodge style snow tubing for adults and kiddos. Hang out at the outdoor viewing deck while sipping a glass of wine or beer with lunch. The staff helps the kiddo toddlers carry the tubes and they ride up to their own special hill right on the snow tube. Inside there is a warm fireplace to enjoy food and treats while viewing the tubers.

We are 12 minutes away from Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort! Easy access on snow plowed roads. Just 14 min away from Sugar Bear Cabin.

Explore the many nearby Gold Rush towns or state parks. Historic Columbia State Park is a gold miners' town set in the 1800s! Enjoy the many stores, bakeries, and restaurants.

Rail Town 1897 State Park offers train rides, and old trains to explore! Set in the another fun Goldrush town Jamestown, CA! Enjoy antique shopping and delicious foods and desserts!

Murphy's is wine country with 28 wineries! Enjoy your day sipping wonderful California wines. All of them are unique and in a mountain vineyard setting! Wintertime is magical.

Our family truly appreciates each guest, and we truly hope you enjoy your stay at Sugar Bear Cabin!

Amazing 53rd Birthday Getaway

For us this place was amazing! Not to mention our host was just as amazing. The cabin was cozy and had all of the necessities we needed to celebrate my birthday. The host was so quick to respond to any of my emails and also recommended things to do around the area like the Black Oak Casino where my husband won $800 whoo hoo! We will definitely be back again!

Nice spot

We were looking for a moderate elevation spot to acclimate for a couple of days en route to higher country and this was great. The young teens with us enjoyed the home and nearby Pinecrest Lake, host was communicative and provided suggestions for local hikes. One note: it's like 70 stairs from the driveway to the home, so if you're at all limited in mobility consider looking elsewhere!

Hidden Gem

My husband and I had the best weekend visit at this cabin. While it was very charming inside with the natural wood finish and cabin feel we really enjoyed the upgraded appliances and furniture. There is a beautiful mountain view from every window. We caught a little snow and it felt like a winter wonderland. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing weekend. Thank you Renee for opening up this lovely cabin for our short stay!

First time at Pinecrest

The property was in a nice area. The home at 70 stairs to climb to get to the entrance. This meant packing everything up a steep set of stairs multiple times to get food and luggage inside. This was not ideal and was not disclosed prior to our stay. Another thing to note is the renters must remove all their garbage or pay an additional fee to use the garbage service.

Perfect for family get-together & getaway near the river and lake

Everything in the cabin was thoughtfully set up for convenience and comfort. Comfortable beds and linens; soap, shampoo & conditioner in the bathrooms; a well-stocked coffee bar, condiments, spices and cookware if you like to cook some meals in. We especially enjoyed the large deck and seating for morning and evening relaxing. There are books and games available to add to your fun. The home is in a quiet neighborhood where we felt comfortable going on our morning runs. Very nearby is the Sugar Pine Railway trail for hiking and river play, and Pinecrest Lake is only minutes away. As another reviewer mentioned, there are quite a few stairs up to the cabin from the parking area. This was not a problem for us, but it is something to consider if anyone in your party is less fit or able. We loved our stay!

Great cabin

Sugar Bear cabin was a great place to stay for nearby activities. We enjoyed the amenities the cabin offered, especially in regards to cooking and kitchen. A really great surprise was the stocked up game room, and various VHS tapes, along with a VCR. My partner and I watched Face Off, something we would not have done otherwise, and an amazing blast from the past. The game room was such a nice touch, as well. The beds were comfortable, and my partner and I both got a good night's sleep. The area itself is very isolated and noise-free, and beautiful. Our dog loved sniffing the various trees as we explored the yard together. The stairs are a bit of a pain but a great exercise, and the listing is 100% transparent regarding them. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to others, as long as you are not going with a big (5+ people) family or have any injuries that doesn't let you take the stairs. We will definitely be back in the future.

Lovely place to disconnect

This cabin is darling. The interior is what you would expect from a mountain cabin. The rooms are large and the beds quite comfortable. It’s perfect for a small group of 4, though it sleeps 6. It’s set back enough from other neighbors and set above the adjacent neighbor so it feels very private. The cabin has a a big beautiful deck that catches the morning sun and is a wonderful spot for enjoying morning coffee and for us, also breakfast. The location is great as it’s very close to Pinecrest Lake and the little town nearby. All within 10 minutes of the cabin. Be mindful that there are 70 steps to climb to get to the property. This was a surprise for us, but luckily manageable. The entrance is only accessible on one side of the property. I would not recommend this for persons with disabilities that make it hard to walk. I also would not recommend this for elderly people. Overall, it was a lovely stay.

Fresh mountain air with a view

Renee was helpful and responds quickly to any questions. Clean cabin, well stocked with all kitchen utensils and cute coffee bar and comfortable beds! Open windows in the late afternoon to get a slight breeze/cool down during hot days. Beautiful deck for hanging out and listening to the surrounding nature. Super close to the lake, about a 5 minute drive without road construction traffic. Lots of dvds and even VHSs (!) so fun for some 80s kids! Want to come back during the winter and experience the snow. The only thing… if you are not into stairs or do not do them well. This cute little place isn’t for you. There are 69 from the drive way to the deck. Great workout though!!

Great cabin

We had a great stay. The cabin is very comfortable, well stocked, and Renée is very responsive. As was said before, there are a lot of steps to be aware of.

My husband Oscar and I relocated from the coast of North Monterey County to the Sierra Foothills near Yosemite in 2018. We have one daughter who is a Yale University gradute, with honors, phi beta kappa, Magna Cum Laude in New Haven Connecticut. As an investor and Realtor we have owned many properties throughout the years. We are excited to own our first vacation rental property. We have enjoyed renovating the cabin, spending time there with our family, and now sharing it with you and your family or friends. We hope you take in nature, make memories with family and friends, and leave with happy vibes.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this property due to the location, location and location. Sugar Bear Cabin is located in a special and quaint community called Cold Springs. It sits at an elevation of 5,700 feet, in the Gateway of the High Sierras. It is surrounded by breathtaking High Sierra mountain views. We are 5 minutes away to Pinecrest Lake, and 15 minutes to Dodge Ridge Ski Resort. There's ice skating at Long Barn Lodge, snow tubing at Leland Snow Play and jet skiing, water tubing and skiing, or fishing at Beardsley Lake. Black Oak Casino is 20 minutes away where the whole family can enjoy bowling and arcade fun for all ages on the lower level.

What makes this property unique

Sugar Bear Cabin is unique because it is perched approximately 20' above the ground, and set back into the forest. It feels like a tree house. We are in a cul de sac and away from road noise. You can hear and feel nature. There is the beauty of the wind as it passes through the trees and a quiet peacefulness you can feel while relaxing on the deck, or sitting inside on a snowy day with views from every room to enjoy a spectacular winter wonderland as the snow gently falls. The sun sets between the trees and evokes the peace, and beauty of nature. Due to the unique way the cabin nestles into the forest on this large lot, it gives you the privacy! It doesn't get better than that!
