Enjoy our two-bedroom rustic cabin just a few minutes from Cornell University and Ithaca College.
Surrounded by magnificent hemlock trees and nestled on the hillside above Lake Cayuga, the cabin also has a shale beachfront and dock with use of the kayaks, canoe, and boathouse.
You can focus on water sports or use the cabin as a base for exploring the spectacular scenery (the gorgeous gorges are just minutes away), wineries, restaurants, colleges, museums, Watkins Glenn activities and other treasures of the area.
Although you are only minutes from all that Ithaca has to offer (including Wegman's!), the cabin is a world apart: you feel as though you are in a treehouse--surrounded by hemlocks and rhododendren. A walk down the hillside brings you to the shale beachfront and access to Ithaca's most stunning asset: 40-mile long, 600+ feet deep, glacier-formed Lake Cayuga.
A big advantage of the cabin is its location on the lake but in Ithaca. Most Cayuga Lake cabins are 20-35 miles away from the Ithaca attractions.
We live in the large house on the property but your parking, entrance, beachfront, etc., are all private, we rarely cross paths with the folks in the cabin. We also rent the main house when we are out of town which can hold 8-10 guests.
Please note that the west shore of the lake in Ithaca is a very steep hillside. So, even though our property is more accessible than some, there are 37 wide railroad tie steps from the cabin parking to the cabin front porch along with a railing. There are 40 steps from the cabin to the lakeshore.

Hi Jeannette--Thanks for the review and for your return visit! So sorry about the mattress--we tried a new kingsize bed in one bedroom. Is the mattress too firm? Should we add a topper to soften it?
Thanks again for your stay!
Sally
Watching the water sparkle with sunrise light through the trees, and then being able to easily walk down to the beach was such a special treat! The cabin is fully equipped, the hosts are kind and responsive. There are so many wonderful things to do nearby, we will have to come back to enjoy this again.
Quiet, relaxing lakeside treehouse! Just minutes to Ithica and not more than 1/2 hr to many beautiful waterfalls and vineyards! Cabin has everything you need for a fun stay.
We had a nice weekend at the cabin. It’s super close to city restaurants and shops and also very close to hiking spots. We visited in the fall and I loved to see the red maple through the window. Even though it was chilly we walked down to lake and my daughter found some nature treasures. The living room furniture could use updating, and some larger cooking pans would help in kitchen.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint cabin in an excellent location! We had beautiful weather. Did lots of hiking at the local state parks. The owners were very responsive to our needs. Great stop on our way to Canada!
Convenient location minutes from Cornell. The views from the dock are gorgeous!

Liked: Cleanliness, location
Disliked: Communication, listing accuracy
Stayed for 2 nights. The Good:1. The Host was generous to allow an early check in.2. The place was clean.3. Conveniently located to state parks. The Bad:1. The steps to the cabin were quite treacherous and my son fell. Many of the rotted wood step treads are sloped so your toe is well below your heel: so extra slippery - especially when wet.2. This is not lake front as I've seen on some reviews. It is cabin front because there is a cabin in front of you (the cabin in front is lakefront). This place sits above a garage and its quite weird hearing the garage door go up and down when others use it.3. This place is connected to the cabin in front which I did not prefer. Every VRBO place I've rented at in the past (8 places) was free standing and this is not listed in the description.4. There was little outdoor useable space. Just a small deck.5. There was no internet connection, so we had to use data the whole time.6. The bed was very firm and not that good for support. 7. Low ceilings in the bathroom and 2nd BD. Most of these issues were not present in the VRBO website listing and it was disappointing to discover them.

Hi HarV--sorry to disappoint. I will check the description to make sure it is more clear that the cabin is up the hill from the lake and surrounded by trees so the feeling is one of being in a treehouse and the lake views are through the trees and access to the lake is down a path through the trees.
The kingsize bed is new and if folks find it too firm, we can add a topper.
The garage door is used by just the two of us so it is usually closed and rarely used. Sorry it bothered you. Unfortunately there was huge rain (5 ") and flooding the night before you arrived so the driveway drainage by the main house below the cabin in front of the garage was stopped up with mud and debris and there were workers cleaning things up so the garage door may have been used more than usual that day. I believe you spoke with one of the workers.
The cabin is completely private even though there is a breezeway connecting it to the main house at the basement level. Both houses are oriented away from each other and at different levels on the hillside. For lakefront in Ithaca this is more private than you would find anywhere on this part of the lake. This amount of privacy plus the convenience to all of Ithaca is just not available.
There is a railing to help with the stairs and we keep the stairs maintained, but they are railroad ties. It is a rustic setting on a steep hillside. So sorry your son had a fall!
We enjoyed our time in your cabin. The air conditioning worked well as it was very hot! The lake was beautiful. We also enjoyed the that we were very close to the city with lots of shopping and restaurant options.
We loved our stay at Sally and Richard's cabin. The property is stunning- right on the water surrounded by lush foliage. The property is just a short drive from Ithaca and right off of a main road, although you would never know it because its so quiet! The dock was a perfect place to spend the day laying lakeside and reading. And the added bonus of the kayaks was extra special. I highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a special getaway, and I will certainly be back!
This is a great getaway location. My wife and I enjoyed the privacy of the cabin set in the woods with a great view of the lake. We were close to Ithaca, many state parks and wineries. I highly recommend this property:
Perfect sized cabin with unbelievable location on Cayuga Lake. Lots of amenities provided for a great day on the lake! We will definitely say again!

About the host
Hosted by sally mennen
we are a retired couple who live in the main house which is down the hill but secluded from the cabin. The cabin has its own beach, parking, entry, deck, etc. and the amazing thing is that you are in the town of Ithaca but feel like you are in a forest on a lake. The beach is the only area where you are more likely to see a neighbor--but only if the neighbors are using their lakefront.
Why they chose this property
The property is beautiful--mature trees as in an old growth forest-- but access to the lake is easier than on most of the properties along the west shore in Ithaca. And privacy is greater than in most of the west shore properties. The property has 1.4 acres with big trees and only 2 houses. Most other properties have 4-6 houses on the same size lot.
What makes this property unique
In addition to the natural beauty, we are SO close to all the advantages of Ithaca. No need to drive 20-40 minutes to get to shopping, restaurants, hiking trails, wineries, etc., as on other parts of the lake. Ithaca downtown is only 2 miles away.
