It was a great location and felt very safe with all of the locks to get in. It was very close to several great restaurants. I attended a conference in a hotel downtown, and it was easy to walk there and back. There were a few things in the apartment that had issues, such as the garbage disposal not working and the refrigerator needing a filter change so that it dinged loudly every time we got water. (I did tell the host about these.) The biggest problem was that the description of the place says that the temperature can't go below 70 degrees, but when we got there, we found that it wouldn't go below 72. I need it cooler than that when I sleep, so I messaged the host to ask if they could turn it down overnight. The first night it didn't happen. The second night, it did, but then turned up to 75 in the middle of the night. I think the last couple of nights ended up finally staying at 70, which we had asked for. There are loud dogs that live next door, but I didn't hear them overnight. It also appears that an unhoused person lives on the curb on the same block, but they didn't bother anyone. Overall, a good stay.
The apartment was clean and the beds were comfortable. Plenty of amenities for everything we needed. We had brought our own so didn’t use theirs but coffee and various condiments were provided. We didn’t cook but looked like there was plenty of supplies if we had wanted to. This is not a negative but couple things to keep in mind. There is a single flight of stairs to access apartment. I was traveling with my elderly Mom and they were a little challenging for her so something to keep in mind. There is parking within a gated/protected area that is nice and felt very safe but I have a crew cab long bed pickup and it was very challenging to navigate the exit of the parking lot due to its size. It’s doable - just took some patience. Any size of smaller vehicle would fit perfectly fine.

Thank you for staying with us! Hope to welcome you back in the future!
Our stay was for a week and it was the perfect place to jump off into the surrounding area. We could walk to everything in midtown and into Montrose. We were comfortable walking up to 2 miles each way. It was also a good place if you are going to the museums/Herman Park/zoo. A ten minute drive there or fifteen to the Arboretum and Memorial Park area. 10 minutes to Minute Maid park and downtown. Without traffic, you’re about 30-35 minutes from IAH. About the same to NASA and under an hour to Galveston. The kitchen, bath and bedroom were exactly what we needed for being out all day and coming back in the evening. Our only point was that on VRBO maps, when we booked it, it shows it at another location about a 5-10 minute walk away on the other side of Bagby. That location is in a quiet neighborhood near our family. This location is between two busy roads so it was loud at times and a challenge to pull out with the car or cross on foot during the busy daytime. A small matter that we were able to handle. Communication with the host was excellent.
We had a lovely stay at this property in Houston's Midtown neighborhood during the recent college football championship game week. The property is as pictured - an older building but with new kitchen, secure parking (although it was quite safe to walk around the neighborhood at any time), keypad entry so you don't worry about losing your keys, and whatever cleaning and bathroom amenities you'd expect to find (soap, shampoo, hair dryer etc.). The unit is a second story walk-up.
Maria is a lovely host and quickly responded to any questions we had, checking in with us to see if we needed anything, and just a kind person to deal with in general.
The location is a very short walk to a number of restaurants, bars, and cafes, all of which (at least the ones we got to) were quite good. It's also not terribly far, and flat (this is Houston), to the METRO Rail station; and at least during the cooler months, is also a pretty short walk to downtown. We found we only had to drive for going out of town to the Space Center or Galveston - walking took us to pretty much everything else we wanted.
Be advised that you'll need to bring your Fire Stick, Hulu, or the like to watch live TV, or you can sign into the smart TV in the unit. The internet service was fine for streaming and browsing.
It's been 20 years since I was in Houston, and the Midtown area is a great place nowadays to base yourself. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you, Maria!
