About this property

The Kernavalet Mill - Trégor, on the banks of the Trieux River

In the hollow of a green valley of the Trégor, the Moulin de Kernavalet watches over the banks of the Trieux. Five generations of millers have succeeded each other there. Today the paddle wheel is still present, and the house welcomes 6 travellers without neighbours or vis-à-vis, in a setting where time seems to stand still. Equipped kitchen, courtyard for long evenings. Fishing and trails from the mill. 10 minutes from Pontrieux, 30 minutes from Bréhat and the Pink Granite Coast.

LE LIEU — Water mill whose history dates back to at least 1684, in the line of the lords of Kernévénoy (the family that gave its name to the Hôtel Carnavalet in Paris). In the same family for five generations. The last miller, a great fly fisherman, did his milling there until 1968. The mill is mentioned in the book 'Les Moulins du Trieux' by Jean-Nicolas Cornelius.

THE SPACE — 100 m², 3 bedrooms, up to 6 guests. First floor: bedroom with bunk bed and trundle bed for children, bathroom, separate toilet, fully equipped kitchen, living room, direct access to the river. Upstairs: two bedrooms with double bed (140), baby cot on request (free of charge).

OUTSIDE — Courtyard with garden table, direct access to the outskirts of the Trieux, apple orchard, parking on site.

MECHANISM — Post-1840 mechanism preserved (paddle wheel, rollers, blutoirs, sieve).

FAMILY KIT & LINEN — Travel cot, baby bath, high chair provided free of charge on request (to be specified before arrival). Towels not provided by default — we can offer you some on request, specify this before your arrival.

PLEASE NOTE — Use of the fireplace prohibited. The mill is not freely accessible (guided tour only, for safety). Isolated environment in the countryside, car essential. Fibre Wi-Fi throughout the house; mobile network sometimes weak (steep valley). Access by small country road, detailed instructions sent before arrival. Riverside secured by a ganivelle; swimming prohibited (feet in the water allowed); children to be supervised near the millrace and wheel. Fishing allowed with map; canoeing/kayaking possible from the property depending on the water level. Anti-insects provided.
