About this property
Sweet winds over Hurricane Hole St John
Sweet Wind is a West Indian style home that sits just above secluded Hurricane Hole. Easy access off the main road #10 with a paved driveway . There are 32 solar panels and 3 Tesla batteries to supply the power, no WAPA outages. The villa is very private, quiet and secluded, being in the Nat. Park. It's only 1/2 mile from Coral Bay which sports live music most nights, shopping and fine or informal dining. Right below the villa there is a pebble beach with 4 kayaks available to explore the 5 bays that include Hurricane Hole. The snorkeling is good with mangroves and reefs, along with sandy beaches. I designed and built the house in the more traditional West Indian style of 3 individual buildings with large decks connecting them. The main house being the kitchen, living room, and dinning room. There is a bedroom and bathroom attached via a private deck on the West side of the main house. On the East side of the main house there is a 3rd building, housing 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with a large deck in between w/ dining table and lounge chairs. All the rooms have amazing views, you feel like you are floating right over the ocean, and this layout makes them very private. A lot of love and care went into designing Sweet Wind. Down stairs there is a 10x20 pool and another vert private bedroom/bath. This is my own private art gallery, with hardwood floors, Purple Heart cabinets, fine dishes, antique furniture, local treasures and a bit of humor. There are two separate decks for complete privacy. One of the showers is outside, built with beautiful rock work. The bedrooms are in separate buildings, or pods which adds to the beauty and privacy. There is a 4th bedroom downstairs near the pool with bathroom and outside shower. There is a lovely grotto behind the villa with an amazing stone retaining wall 9' tall and 100' long running all along the back side, that has the BBQ, orchids, flowers and herbs, and an outside shower. The villa has gates at both entrances that keep the wild donkeys out and children in. You wake up to an amazing sunrise above Hurricane Hole. This is the most protected harbor in the Caribbean, and we look out over the Coral Reef National Monument. There is no overnight mooring allowed in Hurricane Hole unless there is a storm warning, so views are unobstructed. Sweet Wind is very quiet and private but just 1/2 a mile from town and you don't hear all the music and noise from Coral Bay I think the photos say it all, Nina.

About the host
Hosted by Nina Hahler
I feel so lucky to live here in beautiful Hurricane Hole. I am a painter and a musician. I use oils, pastels and watercolours and mostly paint boats and sea monsters .I enjoy playing the mandolin, banjo and slide guitar. I commercially fished for salmon, halibut and black cod, and had a 36' troller for most of my life out of Sitka Alaska. I used to come here for the winter to get out of Alaska, and build places for myself and family. I've lived in several parts around Coral Bay, and I think this is the best place to live on St John.
Why they chose this property
Sweet Wind is just above Hurricane Hole in the National Park and overlooks Coral Reef National Monument. Boats can not overnight moor in the Coral Reef Nat. Monument and there are almost no other houses in view. Park trailheads are a short walk away, and It's very quiet and peaceful here, the view is amazing, and still close to town. The snorkeling and kayaking available here at Sweet Wind in Hurricane Hole make this a special place for outdoor enthusiasts.
