Enjoy your vacation in the middle of the Azores archipelago, the central location of Ribeira Grande is the ideal starting point for all activities on the island.

Quinta Velha offers a total of 3 self-catering apartments.

"Casa Lea Sophie" is on the 1st Floor with a separate entrance. It is a lovingly furnished apartment with a wood briquette stove, which ensures a good indoor climate in winter. 2 separate, heated bedrooms offer space for 4 adults. For our little guests, up to 5 years, we also provide a baby or children's bed free of charge. The open kitchen and living area with TV and free WiFi offers enough space to prepare meals and sit together comfortably. The south-facing balcony with a comfortable seating area can be reached directly from the kitchen.

Casa Lea-Sophie has direct access to the garden with grill, garden furniture and pool. The entire area is available to all guests for free use. Fruit trees, hydrangeas and much more invites you to linger.

Wonderful stay!

The two bedroom unit where we stayed was lovely with vaulted ceilings in the living areas, a wood stove, comfortable furnishings and a well-equipped kitchen. The views from the windows front and back were gorgeous - ocean on one side and mountains at the back. Marion, the owner, was an absolutely great host - kind, sensitive, super friendly and helpful! She gave us lots of good suggestions for things to do and see. Despite not having the best week of weather, we totally enjoyed our stay! Many thanks to Marion

We enjoyed our stay. It is a great place, also with a baby. The big garden and the lovely animals are perfect for a more lazy day or afternoon but it is also a great central place to discover the island.

Perfect Vacation location

We thoroughly loved our week stay here. Everything on the island was in easy access and a short 1.5 km walk you were in the centre of Ribeiro Grande. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable. The highlight for us was Marion’s hospitality which began with a guided 30 min tour of the village to orient us. Everyday met with friendly conversation and suggestions. A peaceful oasis.

Just ok

The apartment was clean and basic. The property was very pretty. Here are the two issues we had. The driveway in and out is very, very narrow and on one side is about a 12-18 inch drop off of a concrete and stone wall. The turn from the house onto this driveway is very tight and the drop off is very overgrown. There was no way to tell it was there. Turning a reasonable distance from the house and you drive off the ledge, which we did unfortunately. No warning from the property owner. When it happened, Marion made it seem like we couldn’t drive and this never happens. Her husband let the cat out of the bag however and told us it was the third time in just a few months that a renter had fallen off the wall with their car. Why couldn’t they put up a sign of this is a repeated occurrence or some sort of barrier. Luckily we were able to get the car back on the road with a jack and some blocks. The owners, who knew this was happening to people, acted like it was all our fault. The last evening we were there we wanted to do some laundry. It was only 9:00 pm and the listing states as part of the amenities a washer and dryer. No mention that they were only available at the convenience of the host as they are inside a locked door. We texted the host, Marion, and she said she was in bed already. It was only 9:00 and I mentioned that the listing said that a washer and dryer were available. She then got up and loudly knocked on our door. When I answered it she could not have been more rude and unwelcoming. Such a difference from all the other people we had encountered in Portugal. I was shocked at how incredibly rude she was telling us how late it was. She would not let us use the washer and dryer unless she did the laundry. We ended up taking our dirty clothes with us to the next place we stayed where we had no issues doing the laundry ourselves. I would not stay here again. The rest of our stay was fine however.

Tolle Unterkunft in zentraler Lage.

Wir hatten einen wunderschönen, viel zu kurzen Aufenthalt. Marion ist eine super Gastgeberin und hat uns sehr gut betreut. Sie hatte viele, tolle Tipps für uns und stand uns immer mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Die Wohnung liegt sehr zentral, man kann alle Hotspots gut erreichen.

Super shöne Ferienwohnung

Wir können die Ferienwohnung nur empfehlen, es ist alles da was man braucht (selbst Fliegengitter an den Fenstern), alles ist super sauber und funktional eingerichtet. Marion und Dieter sind exzellente Gastgeber, man kann sie immer bei Fragen und Tipps fragen und bekommt immer eine sehr kompetente und hilfreiche Auskunft. Marion hat für uns auch den Ersteinkauf erledigt, sodass man auch entspannt anreisen kann (nochmal Danke hierfür). Die Anlage ist superschön angelegt und läd zum Verweilen ein. Unsere Tochter war auch ganz begeistert von den braven Hunden :-). Nicht zu vergessen der kleine Kiosk mit gekühlten Getränken / Marmelade und eigenen Eiern runden den sehr guten Eindruck ab (man hat sogar die Möglichkeit Wäsche zu waschen)

Wunderbarer Ort zum "Runterkommen"

Wir haben 2 herrliche Wochen auf der schönen Quinta Velha verlebt, den Pool, den Blick vom Balkon in die Berge und vom Hochsitz auf die Atlantikküste von Ribeira Grande genossen, die Tiere gestreichelt und es uns gutgehen lassen. Lediglich zu warm war es uns, vor allem auch nachts - beim nächsten Mal kommen wir nicht im August. Noch nie haben wir irgendwo so viele tolle Tipps bekommen wie von Marion und Dieter! Ein Mietwagen ist sehr empfehlenswert und das Spielen von Kindern im Garten muss man tolerieren, was aber für uns kein Problem war. Insgesamt finden wir diese Unterkunft sehr empfehlenswert.

Herzliche Gastfreundschaft in einem grünen Paradies

schöne Zeit genossen, nah an der Küste, nah bei den Bergen und beim Thermalwasser. Wir hatten im Apartment alles was wir brauchten und noch viel mehr: ein kleiner Verkaufs- und Aufenthaltsraum mit Bier im Kühlfach, selbstgemachten Konfitüren, Eier der glücklichen Hühner auf dem Hof. Marion hat ein offenes Ohr für alle Themen, hat für uns sogar den Anfangseinkauf im Supermarkt erledigt und ist eine große Unterstützung bei der Tourplanung mit vielen praktisch und gastronomischen Tipps.

Lovely apartment with gorgeous vistas

Our hostess Marion could not have been more warm, genuine, cheerful and welcoming. The cows next door, the friendly cats and dogs, the garden flowers, views of the mountains and sound of the surf combine to make a truly relaxing base camp from which to explore the island. Marion had excellent recommendations for food and activities. What a pleasure!! We highly recommend.

Beautiful home, gracious host

The home is on a beautiful piece of property on the edge of Ribiera Grande. Beautiful views and lots of space to move around. Marion was the most gracious host, offering local restaurant recommendations and a stocked fridge with beer, jams, and local eggs. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to stay on Sao Miguel.

Delightful place to spend a few days!

Quiet and comfortable lodgings, friendly, non-intrusive but helpful hosts,. Lovely gardens. Possible to walk to town for good restaurants, etc. but a longish walk, convenient for driving excursions further afield. (Not specific to this VRBO, but visitors to Sao Miguel should reserve rental cars as far in advance as possible, at least as of this writing; exploring the island is easiest with a car, and much cheaper with advance booking. )

Fantastic Stay!

We really enjoyed our stay with Marion and her husband. The space was very comfortable and we had plenty of room for four (two adults and two young children). Very peaceful & quiet location just outside of town (a little too far to walk, but an easy 10 minute jog/run) The kids loved all the animals and small pool. Would definitely recommend.

Unseren Familienurlaub in die Ferienwohnug "Casa Lea-Sophie" hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Sie war gut eingerichtet und sauber. Der Blick aus dem Fenster auf die Bergen ist sehr schön. Am meisten freuten sich die Kinder über Marion und Dieters Tiere. Die Vermieter Marion und Dieter sind sehr freundlich und haben uns jeden Tag beratet, was wir unternehmen könnten, da das Wetter unbeständig war. Ein schöner Ort für perfekte Ferien

Wir verbrachten drei sehr angenehme Ferienwochen in der Wohnung "Mitchi". Das Haus, eine ehemalige Fazenda, liegt ruhig mitten im Grünen, und der Blick vom Garten in die Hügel und über Ribeira Grande aufs Meer ist wunderbar. Marion und Dieter haben uns herzlich empfangen und waren stets bereit, uns in allen Belangen zu unterstützen, damit unser Aufenthalt noch angenehmer wurde. Die Wohnung ist hell, geräumig und zweckmässig eingerichtet und bietet alles, was man braucht. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt bietet der grosse Garten mit der Edelkastanie, den diversen Rasenplätzen mit Liegestühlen und dem Grill, den vielfältigen Blumen und Sträuchern und nicht zuletzt mit den Tieren im Hintergrund. Alles in allem ein sehr schöner Ort, den wir ohne Zögern unseren Freunden empfehlen können.

Tolle Ferien auf den Azoren

Unsere Familie verbrachte eine phantastische Zeit auf den Azoren. Die von Marion gemietete Wohnung war sehr sauber, sehr wohnlich eingerichtet und technisch auf einem sehr guten Niveau. Schöne Ferienwohnung

Wir haben im August unseren Familienurlaub bei Marion und Dieter verbracht. Die Ferienwohnung "Casa Lea Sophie" hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Sie war zweckmäßig eingerichtet und sehr sauber. Der Blick aus dem Fenster auf Garten und Berge war sehr schön. Der Garten ist sehr hübsch und wir konnten abends schön außen sitzen. Die Kinder fanden gut, dass es Tiere gab. Vorallem Meg und Adi haben sie ins Herz geschlossen. Die Hunde und Katzen waren alle sehr lieb. Während unseres Aufenthalts wurde noch ein riesiger Pool aufgebaut. Unsere Kinder haben sich gefreut, dass sie ihn noch nutzen konnten. Die Vermieter Marion und Dieter sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und haben uns einige wertvolle Tipps und Empfehlungen gegeben. Bei unserem nächsten Azorenurlaub würden wir auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

Sehr schöner Aufenthalt bei herzlichen Gastgebern

Wir danken für eine sehr schöne Zeit! Die Ferienwohnung hat den Ankündigungen und unseren Bedürfnissen entsprochen. Ihre ruhige, aber zentrale Lage ist für die Entdeckung der Insel ideal. Frühling im Winter trotz Regenschauer :-)

Unser Winterurlaub im Dez. 2015 auf den Azoren glich eher einem Frühlingsurlaub, (Natürlich sollte man nicht vergessen, dass das Wetter sich auf den Azoren schnell ändern kann und ein kleiner oder etwas größerer Schauer einen überraschen kann). Doch wer in der Quinta Velha seinen Urlaub plant, kann davon ausgehen, dass Familie Schmitz einen „nicht im Regen stehen lässt“. So, kam es, dass wir auf unserem Spaziergang am Meer von Ribeira Grande (ohne Regenschirm etc.) von einem etwas größeren Schauer überrascht wurden. Pitschnass wurden wir von Marion und Dieter aufgelesen. Bei einem Glas Wein vor dem Kamin in der Wohnung von Familie Schmitz konnten wir uns aufwärmen und über unsere Erlebnisse berichten und gemeinsam lachen. Natürlich bekamen wir eine Menge wundervoller Insel-Tipps. Gut gerüstet und gut informiert setzten wir unseren Urlaub fort. Die Internetbeschreibung und Bilder unserer Unterkunft Casa Sopia waren genauso, wie wir alles dann tatsächlich vorgefunden haben. Das Bett ist groß und gemütlich. Der Garten und der Ausblick sind wie nahezu alles auf den Azoren einfach nur ein Traum. Wir sagen Danke und bis bald Karin und Noel

Super schön

Tolle Unterkunft. Tolle Menschen. Mit viel herzblut gemacht, sauber, unbezahlbaren Tipps und uns fehlte es an nichts. Die Lage war für uns perfekt, Strand, Natur, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, Zentral. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!
