We had a great family vacation here. The house was perfect and the hosts were very friendly and provided plenty of information about the area. The view from their dock was beautiful and the lake was great for swimming and fishing and we even took out the provided canoe. It was absolutely perfect. We also had a lot of fun checking out the local area. Crowley Cheese and Buttermilk Falls were both a great visit and we headed up to the VT fair one of the days and had a lot of fun up there as well. We also had a few relaxing days just swimming and hanging out around the house. We even had a fire at the outdoor fire pit and the hosts provided plenty of fire wood.Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area or just want a secluded get away.
Ninevah is sparsely populated. The houses that are there are hard to see even when you are passing by them on a canoe (which is provided). It is completely silent except for the sounds of the ever-present loons and bullfrogs that echo into the night. The lake has the swimming side and the lily pad side (where I saw a moose) so it's the best of both worlds. The house has everything you need. Wi-fi reached out to the dock. Chairs, fans and floats are all included. Sandy was wonderful and always quick to respond. This place is perfect if you are looking to sit in silence and stare at a sunset or listen to the loons away from it all. I highly recommend it.

Thank you for the lovely review. We're delighted you enjoyed your visit to our home on the shore of Lake Ninevah -- a 170 acre lake with sparkling, clear water and a roundish shape that affords expansive and gorgeous views of the natural surroundings from every vantage point with only a dozen dwellings along the shoreline. We're also glad you got to see a moose by the small, marshy inlet on the far side of the lake that moose and their babies frequent for feeding.
Our ideal of a lake cottage: it should have direct views of the water; it should feel like a family getaway, not a sterile collection of IKEA furnishings; many comfortable places to read, dock, canoe or kayak, deck, and a feeling of seclusion. We loved Snugglers Cove: quiet, clean, cozy. I had to work 3 of the days we were here, unfortunately, but the wifi was up to it. We played music on the sound system through Bluetooth, and I am sure the video options are great but we just wanted to read, rest and lake. Sandy was extremely responsive. There are many residents in the area but we still felt secluded. Local communities had been terribly impacted by flooding, but Sandy made sure we knew what services were available (and what roads to avoid). We went to the Hannaford in Rutland, an easy 30 min drive (the Shaws in Ludlow was online ordering only), and had a nice outing to Woodstock later in the week. We were serenaded by loons, and slept wonderfully on very comfortable beds. We'd return in a heartbeat!

We're so glad you enjoyed the views of the lake from the cottage as well as the quiet and feeling of seclusion that our place offers. We're also glad we succeeded in making you feel comfortable and cozy and that our high-speed internet and Bluetooth sound system in such a relatively remote area were much appreciated. Lastly, thanks so much for acknowledging my efforts to anticipate and address what you might need after unexpected floods damaged nearby areas. We try to provide a get-away-from-it-all vacation experience that merits a 5-star rating and we're pleased to know that we accomplished that goal and that you'd like to return.
Make sure you read the instructions that are sent to you carefully. It was a challenge to get my 10’ enclosed trailer in the driveway but I did (due to single lane road and very tight trees) Wi-Fi is only accessible with in a few feet of the cabin unless you go to the main road. The fencing that is up and not movable to keep the geese out is not ideal for launching kayaks. The dock needs to be more accessible as the rocks leading out to the dock could be hazardous. As far as the cleaning expectations of the renters is that the renter’s clean the entire cabin before they leave. As for the bathroom, yes it is a full bath but I could have put my feet in the tube when I was going to the bathroom. The kitchen, living room, bedrooms and outdoor space where as described. Overall we did have a very nice week long vacation.

We're glad Scot had a nice time at our cottage set amidst wilderness on the shore of a sparsely-populated, crystal-clear, pristine & tranquil lake w/stunning views of Mt Okemo****We're accessible hosts & always happy to provide info & answer questions any time but Scot did not take advantage of those offers & didn't review the rental agreement or cottage instructions carefully--which we encourage. For example, Scot didn't know how to open the cottage door altho the info was provided 6 weeks before his stay. ****Despite our remote location, our guests can access amazing high-speed fiber optic Wifi that extends to all areas of the property, including the dock. We wonder if Scot's devices were limited in their capability****We love the private road bounded by lovely woods that leads to our property & there's a photo of it on our listing. We've easily backed a 17-foot boat into our driveway****Kayaks can be easily launched from 2 different areas by our shore****There is a gradual sandy access to the lake on either side of the dock. Our dock is an added amenity but is not necessary to access the lake. Access to the dock is by way of natural rock formations & cottage instructions advise guests to exercise caution if they choose to use the dock****Our efficiently designed & updated bathroom is comfortable, clean, well-appointed & well-stocked with the exceptional feature of a tub/shower combination with unlimited hot water****As we always do, we telephoned Scot on his 2nd day at our cottage to see how things were going & to see if he had any questions. Scot didn't have any questions & said, "Everything is great!"****We welcome guests who wish to vacation at a lovely cottage with pleasing & comfortable furnishings & basic modern conveniences that is competitively priced & set on the shores of an exquisite, highly prized lake in the midst of woods where life is simpler & the guest provides their own linens & towels, washes & dries dishes the old fashioned way & cleans up after themselves. We wonder if Scot was wanting a less natural & more developed property. If you want what we offer, we hope we'll hear from you.
Giving 5 stars for this perfect, romantic getaway for couples, fun for families too. My wife and I rented this cottage in Mt. Holly for 7 days and we loved it. The house is beautiful, cozy, well-maintained, with stunning views of Lake Ninevah from the big picture windows or back deck. It has privacy, is in a small community, with grocery stores, and restaurants within a short driving distance. The owners Dan and Sandy are considerate and very responsive. They gave clear, detailed instructions from finding the place to cleaning up when leaving. If we had a question, they called us back promptly. The lake is gorgeous!! Great back yard access to the lake! There are 3 access points to the lake from the back yard. Access one is easiest; two steps down to a shallow, wading/sandy area. There is a private dock which is great for sun bathing, fishing, or jumping in for a swim. Third access is like the first, but on opposite side. We spent most days paddling the provided canoe around, swimming, or just sitting out on the deck. We saw a few friendly kayaks, canoes, but still felt like we had the whole lake to ourselves. We had a very hard time leaving, and hopefully will be back. We highly recommend this place. Thank you Dan and Sandy for everything. Definitely worth the 5-star review!
Beautiful location, lovely cottage, impeccably clean and gracious host. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this terrific spot. We would definitely return!
This was our absolute favorite family vacation so far! The property the cottage is on is unbelievably beautiful. It’s nestled in the middle of the woods overlooking the most beautiful crystal clear lake with stunning Mountain Views. The cottage has the perfect sized yard for our 2 kids to run around which gradually leads right into the lake. The cottage is set up perfectly for safety of little ones, the deck has a door/gate so my kids didn’t have access to the lake on their own and our one year old wouldn’t be able to play on the stairs. The dirt road you take to get to the house not only adds to the atmosphere of your vacation but it’s perfect for beautiful nature walks each day. If we had to pin point our favorite parts of the cottage it would have to be the dock and the super fun canoe rides. The stars at night were breathtaking (stand on the dock at night, it’s truly amazing.) Our family never turned on the tv once. If you are looking for relaxing in the most peaceful, beautiful setting and having quality time with your loved ones, this is the cottage for you!
This was our first time ever visiting Vermont so we wanted to explore What this beautiful state has to offer. (Vermont is now our favorite state, it has miles and miles of untouched natural beauty and quaint little towns) Some musts would be a quick trip to Woodstock to visit Billings farm, walk around the town of Woodstock and lunch or dinner at Long Trail Brewery. Also we really enjoyed Crowley cheese factory and Green Mountain Sugar House (which are only a few minutes from the house) My husband’s a history buff so he really enjoyed Coolidge Homestead as well.
Sandy (the owner) was absolutely wonderful. She was extremely helpful, pleasant, and very organized.
The cottage is stocked with everything you could ever possibly need and then some. It was very clean and cozy .
My family likes to explore new places each year but Vermont and this cottage has a piece of our hearts and we can’t wait to return!
The cabin was nicely situated on a wooded, private, lakefront lot. The lake is remote with preserved land and only a handful of cabins scattered around part of the lake. We found the cabin to be comfortable and well stocked. The owner, Sandy, was very friendly and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great stay. We enjoyed fishing, swimming and canoeing mostly every day or just relaxing on the dock or the cabin's deck. Overall a very nice stay! Thank you Sandy!

Peace, joy and tranquility on Lake Ninevah
Wow! For 30 years our extended family has been coming to the Lake Ninevah area to enjoy all that central Vermont has to offer. Family growth prevents us now from all fitting any longer in the family cabin, so this year we ventured out to rent this home, which is located within walking distance from the family cabin.
From our first contact with the owner Sandy, to our sad last day, this has been a first class experience. The property, while rustic, is very well maintained and plenty roomy. Detailed instructions provided to us before arrival, on site, and before departure took all the stress out of staying somewhere new. Well equipped kitchen met all of our needs.Beautiful views of the lakefront from the comfy living room, and literally only 10 or 20 paces to get out to the lake and private dock. The canoe was put to good use all week, with lots of swimming and fishing. Sizeable largemouth and smallmouth bass, yellow perch and sunfish were caught, with a nice 3 pound smallmouth caught right off the dock. Lots of lawn chairs and a convenient picnic table provided outdoor dining experiences, and the fire ring and provided fire wood made for many memorable S'mores and relaxing evenings...
Lake Ninevah itself is remarkable, and with a 5 mph speed limit and its being mostly surrounded by the conservation minded Wilderness Community and Farm and Wilderness Camps - this lake is the ultimate peaceful Vermont Lake. A pair of nesting loons with their two babies provided great entertainment and musical accompaniment 24 hours a day. A majestic bald eagle visited every afternoon. Seemed like there were never more than 2 or 3 folks on canoes or boats out on the lake at any time - really felt like it was our personal lake. If you are looking for peace, quiet, relaxation and an opportunity to get back in touch with nature and the environment, this place is for you.
Only 340 days until we get to return to the quiet peaceful shores of Lake Ninevah and the comfy hominess of Snugglers' Cove!

The perfect cottage for us
Our week at this cottage in Vermont turned out to be absolutely perfect. The place had everything - good kitchen, ample space, great dock, spectacular views, and all in front of a lovely, quiet lake.
Even before the week was over, my wife said "we're coming here again next year, right?" And my 4-year-old daughter simply said, "I wish this was our cottage."

Snug, serene and wonderful
This is a very special place. The house is cosy and really comfortable, with great window seats for lake-watching in any weather. Lake Ninevah is magnificent. The deck and dock are well set up for keeping kids safe. And the whole place feels, and is, embedded in the wilderness. It is a wonderful, wonderful spot that we hope to return to.

Great Vacation!
Lake Ninevah certainly added a spark to our summer. We had a great week and the weather was superb! So hard to pinpoint a highlight (there were so many) but up there on the list was hanging out in the canoe and watching the loons with their baby chick and catching a glimpse of a baby moose feeding along the shoreline on the opposite side of the lake from the cottage. All around we had a great vacation. We love it there! We're looking forward to next year!

Great time, very relaxing, wonderful vacation spot
Our family had a great time. The place was even better than we had imagined. The lake is so peaceful and it's so relaxing. The swimming and canoeing were great and the kids had loads of fun in the clear, shallow water by the shore. We enjoyed walks along the wooded road by the cottage and a vigorous hike to the top of Mt. Okemo with beautiful views. The inside of the cottage is very comfortable and met all of our needs. Wonderful views of the lake and Mt. Okemo from the living room. It's a great location. The lake is quiet and away from it all and a short drive to shops, restaurants and lots of things to do. At night, we had fun toasting marshmallows and making S'mores around the campfire. We definitely plan to return next summer.

Why they chose this property
Lake Ninevah is like heaven on earth. There are only about a dozen cottages on this large lake because preservationists took down cottages and preserved the surrounding land. It's like vacationing in a nature preserve with the conveniences of home. Relax on the lawn or stroll right into the water from the sandy beach or wade at the water's edge while the water gently laps over you-- unlike other vacation spots where the access to the water is via rock ledge. As pristine Lake Ninevah is only about 12 feet deep at it's deepest part, the water temperatures are often delightfully comfortable. Leave the traffic and stress at home. Our cottage is on a beautiful and wooded private road where you can walk or jog amidst the peace & quiet of nature. People who visit Lake Ninevah describe the lake and their experience as 'enchanting' and 'magical.'
What makes this property unique
What others have written about Lake Ninevah: Lake Ninevah is a well-kept secret in the Eastern Vermont Gateway region. Only about a dozen cottages grace the shore of the 170-acre lake. The rest is protected land under the care of the Ninevah Foundation, a local land conservancy. This pristine lake is only shared by non-owners via the small public boat launch. A few owners of cottages on Lake Ninevah have been generous enough to rent their properties by the week. All guard their seclusion jealously. Here, they can swim, fish, paddle, windsurf and sail in near isolation. The lake has a 5 m.p.h. speed limit imposed, the only sound may be the quiet whir of a trolling motor as background for the call of the resident loons. With a maximum depth of 12 feet, the water warms quickly, inviting even the most skittish bather to dive joyfully in. Canoeing or kayaking the lake is a special treat as so much of the shoreline remains in its natural state. Anglers lucky enough to discover Lake Ninevah enjoy fishing for small mouth bass, sunfish, rock bass, pickerel, pike, large mouth bass and rainbow trout. The private roads around the lake offer plenty of leisurely walks with binoculars or camera and are great for mountain biking. Ninevah Road itself is highly recommended as a scenic bicycling tour.
Visiting Lake Ninevah is only as difficult as finding a vacation rental vacancy. Few private self-catering rentals are offered directly on the lakefront. So, invest in a great set of binoculars and come looking at Lake Ninevah. Let Lake Ninevah share its secrets with you and your family.
