The Space:
The first light of spring drifts through tall windows, filling the cabin with a gentle, golden glow as the forest awakens with fresh green buds. You step onto a deck lit with soft string lights, feeling the cool mountain breeze while the scent of pine mingles with the faint aroma of a nearby fire pit. Inside, the pellet‑stove fireplace crackles, inviting you to unwind with a warm drink after a day of exploring. Evenings stretch out under a sky bright with stars, perfect for a soak in the hot tub as the night air turns crisp.
Sleeping arrangements
Four bedrooms accommodate up to ten guests. One bedroom offers a double bed. Two bedrooms each feature twin‑over‑queen bunk beds, ideal for families or mixed‑age groups. The fourth bedroom contains two twin beds. Linens, extra pillows, and blankets are provided for cooler nights.
Bathrooms
A newly renovated full bathroom and an additional half bath upstairs serve guests. Bathroom essentials are supplied for convenience.
Kitchen & dining
The fully equipped kitchen provides ample counter space and seating for shared meals, coffee, or a relaxed breakfast before heading out. A BBQ grill on the deck makes outdoor cooking easy when the weather permits.
Living area & amenities
Step through the red front door into a spacious living area with high ceilings, expansive windows, electric heat, and window A/C units that keep the cabin comfortable year‑round. A Smart TV and Wi‑Fi support movie nights and video calls, though speeds may vary in this remote setting. A dedicated workspace in a private room offers a quiet spot for focused work.
Outdoor living
The large deck, accented with string lighting, overlooks a private, open grassy backyard that isn’t fully fenced but includes a children’s play area and space for games when the weather allows. The hot tub remains a favorite for relaxing under the sky, and the fire pit with seating invites evenings of s’mores and storytelling.
Location
Nestled near Mount Jackson, the cabin is a short drive from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, offering scenic hikes and seasonal beauty. Bryce Resort is about twenty minutes away, providing winter sports in colder months and warmer‑weather recreation during spring and summer, along with dining and local shops.
Perfect for
Families, friends, and small groups seeking a pet‑friendly mountain retreat will find room to spread out, reconnect, and enjoy a quieter pace. Dogs are welcome; cats are not allowed due to allergies. Whether gathering around the pellet stove, soaking in the hot tub on a cool evening, or exploring the surrounding forest, Hummingbird Ridge offers a comfortable base for a Shenandoah Valley escape.

About the host
Hosted by Tony Cappaert
I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.
Why they chose this property
We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and Hummingbird Ridge in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cabin is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
