About the host
Hosted by Melanie Pool

I grew up in the country living in a log cabin surrounded by nature, a pond, lots of animals and with horses. My days as a child were spent outside mostly hiking, exploring on horseback, fishing and playing in the creek.
The nearest town was Nashville, IN home of many artists including my late Grandmother Kaye Pool. I spent many days in Grammy's studio while she painted, watching attentively, daydreaming of the places on canvas she created. Mainly scenes from from around the area capturing it's true natural beauty in every season imagined.
My family owned a Christmas tree farm in the earlier days. I can still remember the smell of freshly sheered pine trees, in the fields full of wild native prairie flowers. During the winter season taking families out to cut a tree, keeping count of earnings in a coffee can from each tree. Later, the family purchased a sawmill and proceeded into the lumber and logging business. Many days were spent in the forest with my Dad identifying trees and enjoying nature.
I choose nursing for my profession and spent many years caring for others. During that time I always felt a pull to nature and found peace in the forest. Cabin Porch Paradise was not built as a vacation home originally, but a private residence that I lived in for over 20 years. Situated on 20 acres atop a ridge the cabin was a dream come true from a vision long ago derived from my childhood memories and surroundings.
