This house on the cove was clean, comfortably furnished with a well-equipped kitchen. Checking in and out was simple.
Though there were houses on either side, it felt very private. Views from the house were lovely and several outdoor chairs provided great spots for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.
The area has ample trails for hiking and, of course, plenty of lobster sources.
The Cove Cottage on Beal's Cove checked off all the boxes. Quiet, clean, accessible and private. The Hosts were beyond helpful! I do have a couple suggestions; make known the TV is only streaming, provide a small saucepan and blender, and create a safer pathway to the Cove. Possibly loose rocks the last 10 feet, as these would not wash away, providing stable footing for kayak access.
Overall the property is very nice. The home is nicely maintained. Beds are very comfy which is very important! Something that I don’t believe is mentioned in the description is that the washer and dryer location is in the basement. The front yard out to the cover is also pretty steep, which is deceiving from the photos. The path down to the water is steep at parts as well. I think that really needs to be mentioned for families with small children or older adults expecting easy access.
This house and property had everything we needed as a family of five adults. The house was clean and comfortable. It is a compact house with all three bedrooms and the only bathroom off a short hallway, and is therefore best suited for people who don't mind being in close proximity with one another. We were worried about waterfront access due to some of the other reviews, and it is true that the back yard has a steep slope leading down to the water. There is also no gangplank from the yard to the dock which made it harder than it should have been to get on and off the dock. That said, it is worth the effort. Beal's Cove is beautiful and protected and is great for swimming and as a launching point for various kayaking ventures at all tides - for example, we circled Orr's and Bailey Islands, each of which is about a 2-3 hour round trip from the dock.I would definitely recommend this property and would come again.
Cove Cottage was very much as described in the listing. The MaineStay team was great. Easy to reach via text and extremely helpful. The location was perfect for exploring Orr's and Bailey's Islands as well as surrounding area. The house was very quiet. The kitchen was well stocked and we were able to cook full meals there without any issues.
A few minor watch outs: the walk down to Beal's Cove was pretty steep and slick. Future guests should keep this in mind. Wifi was generally good but at times in and out. There is no AC (as mentioned in the listing) but it was quite hot even with fans and windows open. Nights cooled down a bit. Home is quite functional but could certainly benefit from a few updates/upgrades.
We certainly enjoyed our week in Maine on Orr's Island.

Reviewer Comments:
We stayed for 3 nights over the 4th of July. It was apparent the property needs more attention and maintenance. The lawn was overgrown, dust and dirt behind furniture, bent bed frames, and lots of disgusting bugs! Although someone came out to mow after I notified the company and there was an offer of new bed frame slats (this wouldn’t have fixed the issue), it didn’t make up for the issues. We were uncomfortable and pretty grossed out the whole stay.

Hi Bridget,
We're very sorry to hear that your time at Aweighs Away was not what you had hoped for. Being a small, local company, we care deeply about our guests and truly want them to have a wonderful vacation. After receiving your feedback, we discussed possible solutions with the owners and worked together to add Air Conditioning window units throughout the house and we replaced the twin trundle bed with a new queen mattress and frame. We're very sorry we did not know about the bent frame prior to your stay, as we certainly would have addressed it. Good sleep is one of the most important parts of a great vacation! We're hoping the new mattress and frame will provide more comfortable sleeping conditions for that bedroom and the new air conditioning units help to cool the house and reduce the opportunity for dust, dirt and bugs to enter the home from outdoors with the windows closed and ACs on. Again, we're very sorry for these issues during your stay, but truly appreciate your honest feedback, giving us the opportunity to improve the experience for future guests. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again sometime in hopes of hosting a much more comfortable vacation for you.

Reviewer Comments:
For the price paid, the rental felt a bit dated and did not provide good overall value. While portable fans were provided, ceiling fans would have been more appropriate and effective. The proximity of what looked like an abandoned home next door was a bit unsettling and detracted from the overall ambiance. Although the property offers a nice view, accessing the water was challenging due to a difficult path, which was really disappointing. On the positive side, the beds were comfortable.
Absolutely perfect! This was a spur of the moment trip to visit Maine for leaf peeping and it did not disappoint. We could not have chosen a better location to stay. It was private with a beautiful view of the Beal's Cove shore. Each night we slept with the window open (unheard of in Texas) and enjoyed coffee overlooking the back yard view each morning. The bed was comfortable, shower pressure was great and we had all the amenities we needed including a washer and dryer. While we didn't use the kitchen, it had everything you would need to cook meals. It very much felt like home! We would absolutely consider staying at this property again and definitely on Orrs Island.
The cottage was a jewel. Easy to get to off main road but quiet. The view from the numerous windows was stunning, and the bonus of a “private feeling” cove where you could walk and sit and enjoy the small beach was icing on the cake!
Worked great for my family with two small boys. They loved the cove. Close to lot’s of attractions. Giant’s Steps and Land’s End were favorites. Very responsive management. Will consider renting again.
