clean and well maintained, but terrible layout was a surprise
Let's see. I'm really torn about this property. First, the good: the property was clean and virtually new. Everything worked. The view was great although it included a prominent smokestack that was not shown in any of the online pictures. There was a dirty pan in the oven, but such things happen. The owner was very responsive when we had a question.
But there is also the bad. (1) The distance between the bedrooms and the bathroom is just insane. Expect a hike if you need the toilet in the middle of the night. To make matters worse, there is a long, steep and very narrow staircase between the ground floor and all of the bedrooms. The photographs on the web site give absolutely no indication of this. The steps were awkward enough that it was really tough bringing our suitcases up and down. (2) The owner said that he might be doing some work on the detached garage while we were there. I said that was fine as long as it wasn't noisy. He implied (I thought) that there would be nothing done before 9AM. Well, on the day we were leaving, he was hammering away outside at 8.20. Power tools at 8.40. Hardly the relaxing finish to our stay that we had been expecting.
Five stars, take one off for the early morning noise and one for the impossible stairs.
