We were in town for the Lake Placid Ironman and this location was great for being close enough to activities and far enough away from crowded and crazy. It is remote and quiet. The space is nice, but could use some maintenance to fix window and exterior door issues. None of these issues affected our stay. The WiFi is not great in this area with minimal to no service except when inside the house. Also note that this property requires a separate insurance agreement for the rental of about 59 added to the cost of the stay. It is a great space for families with kids as the basement had a lot of entertainment options. It is damp and smelled musty but kids wouldn't care about that for sure!Overall, it was a nice space that was comfortable for our family.
2 small families gathered for skiing and celebrating the New Year. Dana’s chalet was just right for the occasion. The kitchen was nicely stocked for our cooking adventures. Plenty of dishes for our crowd too. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Extra towels came in handy. The bedding and beds were very comfortable. The space was just right for us. Whiteface was 15-20 minutes and lake placid was 25 minutes or so. The skiing was excellent. The sauna was well used each day apres ski.Thank you Dana!We would visit again.
We had a great weekend with friends here. Beautiful cottage, close to Whiteface. Host was very responsive and available to help us with the heating in a -50 celsius weather. We enjoyed the game room and the fireplace very much. Thank you so much!
Great place, lovely area, only issue is door weather stripping needs to be fixed, also maybe put a gate in the railing in master bedroom for loading and unloading. Loved our time there. Ps you should hype up the excellent golf that is in the area!! Lake placid club & Craig Wood golf course.thanks so much
My family enjoyed our stay at Moose Lodge. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds are comfortable. While the locks on the doors are unusual, if one follows the instructions they are easy to use. Like many Adirondack cabins, it does not have AC - we were pleased to find an oscillating fan in the upstairs closet. Between ceiling fans and the oscillating fan, we were quite comfortable.
Great place for a long weekend away with friends and family. Although further from Placid, it was a nice retreat with many amenities. The basement, filled with games was a hit for all ages. Loved the nostalgia and fun playing Ms. Pacman and Donkey Kong. Appreciated the house being stocked with all the little things (toiletries, paper towels, landry detergent, etc.). Great outdoor area as well. Thank you, Dana, for a excellent stay!
We had a very nice experience here at the chalet. Everything was clean and well maintained. The surrounding area was beautiful. One critical feedback item for the future… We stayed at the chalet in March, and the area was just starting to thaw from winter. I wish that the chalet had notified us that in order to get to the chalet, you have to traverse several dirt roads that were really muddy because of the rain / melting. We got stuck in the mud several times during our stay.My friends and I had a lot of trouble driving to the chalet in our four door sedans. I would definitely advise others to consider driving in larger vehicles if staying here during a season with any rain or melting snow.
Such a fantastic trip to this secluded property. Everything was exactly as advertised and the owner was very communicative throughout the process. Highlights included walks down to the Au Sable River at the end of the street, the sauna!, the fire pit, and the basketball game in the basement. And the house was in a great location for easy trips into Jay to see the covered bridge, and also into Lake Placid for golf, Mirror Lake, and a pontoon boat ride. We would definitely come back!
Our family of 6 adults enjoyed our stay. It was a wonderful and beautiful space with all the ameneties. Each couple had a bedroom and bathroom. The sauna was a big hit. As was the fireplace and firepit once the snow cleared. The beds were comfortable. The decorating details were not missed on us. Great loaction for our day trip to Lake Placid. And the finale was the perfect view of the Eclipse from the yard. Then BBQ'd and sat around the fire. It was the perfect day! Thank you for helping to make a fantastic event so memorable for our family.

The house was nice for our family of 8. We really enjoyed the sauna and the fireplace. The rec room downstairs was perfect for the kids to be loud and the adults could sit upstairs by the fire and talk or watch tv. Some improvements, however, could be made. The road was plowed before our arrival and it left a big hill of snow at the end of the driveway that we almost had to use 4-wheel drive to get into the driveway. There was no outside lights on the front of the house which made our late arrival a little difficult. We had to salt the steps and landing before we could even enter the house. The house was freezing upon our arrival and took almost 15 HOURS or so to heat up. The thermostat was deceiving by telling us it was 70 in the house when it felt like 60. I would recommend if you are visiting in the winter months, ask that the furnace be turned on the day before your arrival. The doors were VERY drafty also. We used the fireplace to warm up. The bedrooms were warm if you kept the doors closed during the day. There were blankets for us to use while sitting on the couch which was nice. The wifi worked if you were at that end of the house. Maybe move it into the living room for better use of it. The tv in the living room took a long time to turn on. We thought it was broke at one point then it all of a sudden came on. Upgrading the tv's would be beneficial.

Beutiful Chalet,, Some problems.
The Chalet was beautiful and we had a terrific time, but there were some problems. First and foremost is what I consider a safety problem. There was wiring for smoke alarms, but many did not have any alarms connected to the wires. The wires were just hanging there. Next the handle on the main door kept on coming off and falling on the floor on the inside. We had to be very careful or we would not be able to get back in. When we arrived the toilets were dirty. Yuck!! The advertising was misleading. It was advertised for 8 people but in the ad it said 2 single beds in the loft and 2 convertible beds.In the loft there were only 2 convertible cots. One night we did have 10 people but no where for them to sleep except the sofas. It did say no Phones but failed to say also NO CELL reception. There was a house phone but it did not work. The game room in the lower level was very damp and not comfortable to use. As a result the pool tablet was warped so it was not usable. The day before we were to arrive I received instructions for the Chalet which was fine except we were told we had to wash and dry all the bed clothes and the towels, arrange the furniture properly, run the dishwasher (This I understand) and put all the dishes away and be out by 10AM. Being the toilets were dirty when we got there and we had to do the laundry, what did the cleaning fee pay for? I would only stay there again if these problems were taken care of

The house has beddings for 8 people only. There are 2 queen size beds, one in the main floor bedroom and another one in the loft bedroom. There are 2 twin beds in the main floor bedroom and 2 twin cots in the open loft space. I am not sure how to describe the twin cots.
I do not allow groups over 8 people and have I've known this I would've discouraged your group from renting my home. This was not authorized.
I provide wifi service and this was operational during your stay and local calls service were operational as well during your stay. Unfortunately, I am not responsible for cell reception as certain providers have more towers than others.
The game room is a walk-out basement. Basements can be damped at times and not at other times. I am not sure how to address the feeling of a house at different times.
About the cleanliness of the home, I was never informed of any issues during your stay, probably because you were not authorized to have a group of over 8 people. However, after your stay I have hired a new person to be responsible for the cleaning and also maintenance of the home.
I was there 2 weeks after your stay and my kids and husband had a great time playing pool. Unfortunately, people put the drinks on the table and spill the drinks. I cannot keep replacing pool tables; but as a result, I have placed a table top arcade that includes classic games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga and other 57 games and will have a foosball table delivered by the first week of January.
Thank you for your review!
Horrible Experience with the Property, the Host & VRBO
This property should NEVER have been rented. The following REQUIRED safety features were NOT in place BEFORE we EVEN ARRIVED: 1) several entry level doors (main/bedroom doors with direct outside access) did not lock. The Host validated this IN WRITING via the VRBO portal, stating that she knew about this safety issue & it could NOT be fixed because the parts were on order and not yet received...so, she rented her home to us KNOWING this KEY SAFETY REQUIREMENT was NOT in place & chose NOT to tell us about it! 2) We opened several entry level windows only to find out they could not be closed; 3) there was spotty to no internet connection & the landline, which we successfully used to call the Host with our safety concerns, and received a call back from her on, suddenly STOPPED WORKING! Seriously, it was like a bad Halloween movie! 4) During the night, one of the smoke detectors started chirping... on our hunt to find the right smoke detector to disengage, we found several other smoke detectors completely disengaged with the battery door/connector hanging down! 5) We noticed upon arrival that the lock box was not only wide open, with the key visible and easily taken by anyone walking up to the house, but it was also set to the exact combination that the Host gave us to check in. While it didn't initially cause us major anxiety, given all the other safety issues & the remote location, it raised concerns as to how many other folks could access the house while we were in it!
We communicated all of these issues immediately and on an ongoing basis that night and into the next morning with the Host via the VRBO portal (as mobile phones and landlines were not working). She became irate, stating that we were bombarding her with issue after issue & not giving her a chance to correct...at which point I made it clear we did not want to stay, to which she replied - IN WRITING via the VRBO portal - that she would not charge us for the night because of the MULTITUDE of SAFETY concerns we experienced.
Please note we have photos and videos in support of all of these safety issues & 4 other professional women who are happy to share their personal experience.
We were fortunate to find another VRBO Host in Lake Placid that had ZERO issues, safety or otherwise, and managed to finally relax & enjoy the remainder of our stay.
I am disputing VRBO/the Host's refund of 56%, demanding their justification in keeping 46%, or $914, for an UNSAFE/UNACCEPTABLE 1 night stay.
Cabin was very clean besides the small evidence of mice, although we did not see any actual four legged friends. Had a small issue with a running toilet but manager got right back to us on the issue. Walls are a bit thin when it came to noise control. But who doesn't like hearing laughter! Seeing Deer outside the house every morning was enjoyable. Game room was fun! Additional bath soaps and shampoos were a nice touch. Kitchen was well stocked for cooking. Overall, a very nice place to stay with family and friends.
Beautiful property allowing for peaceful relaxation after a long day of hiking, boating, and enjoying activities in Lake Placid. The home was well stocked with everything my family of four needed, and we enjoyed the rec room with all the fun games. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home.
Spent the weekend with some friends from college and we loved the house. Clean, lots of space for everyone, and the sauna was great!

Weekend Away
Overall this property had the potential of being outstanding, but felt neglected. If traveling in the winter, 4 wheel drive is a MUST and be ready to shovel.

Hi Charl,
I read your review and was wondering how you felt neglected. I take pride in ownership of my home. There was a bathroom remodel done in May 2021 in which we installed a soaking tub. We have added sisal rugs all throughout the house. Each room has a smart tv, the house in its entirely has Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, West Elm and Frontgate decorations and furnishings all done less than a year ago. We are constantly adding amenities in the recreation room, but you didn’t have the courtesy to comment or acknowledge.
About your comment of the 4 wheel drive needed, well I drive an explorer and my youngest son a Jeep Wyllis; however my husband drives a Mazda CX-5 and my other son an Acura TLX and there has never been an issue going to the Moose to have a relaxing weekend with friends and enjoy nature and my beautiful home.
Your comment about be ready to shovel, I’m not sure what you meant. There was accumulation of 16 inches on Saturday and when you came back from skiing, the snowplowing was not done YET. It happens, it happens where I live in Westchester, NY where I reside. We hire a company and sometimes they get to us in a timely matter and doesn’t affect our normal day and some other times we have to wait until they get to us. At least everyday normal and nice people do.
Next time you rent a home, please have the courtesy to read the Welcome Guide. I am your point of contact, if there was something wrong with the house; you should’ve given me the courtesy of a message as it it requested in the Vrbo app; but maybe you didn’t read it as you left garbage loosely in the bin, which was mentioned in the guide. My cleaning ladies had to clean up the mess that you left behind in the cold weather and that is not the way you treat people or a home that you rent.
I never respond to comments because I believe that the The Moose in itself shows how much I care about sharing my home to other families.
Have a great day!
Dana
Everything exactly as promised and really clean :)

Rough around the edges
Property could use plenty of TLC. Lots of issues, the biggest included no water in the upstairs bathroom. A problem that wasn't fixed until our last day there.
We take a Mystery Trip every year. This was my year to plan everything. Once I chose the location I went to VRBO to find our home. I kept coming back to this property. I wanted a home that reflected the Adirondacks and was extremely pleased with my choice. Her home is nestled in the hills in Jay, NY. It was an incredible home. Beautifully decorated and Dana had everything we needed for our stay. Extremely pleased with my choice❤️
