Cabins in a Clearing: Walnut, Chestnut & Beech - Check all three
Cabins In A Clearing has 3 primitive cabins built in the woods and is also located in the Hocking Hills of Ohio (Walnut Cabin - Property # 2974863; Chestnut Cabin - Propty # 2974951 and Beech Cabin - Property # 2974931) There is a porch, fire ring and grill, heat is provided. Situated 13 miles from Old Man’s Cave. A queen bed with linens is provided in Walnut Cabin along with night stands, book shelves for clothes, etc., and a cafe table with chairs inside and a picnic table in the patio. You can eat at the fire ring on cross-section posts if you like. A water line delivers water to a stand pipe along the driveway in a common area accessible by all. A waterproof usb receptacle is close to and behind the water stand pipe making charging of devices easy. Swimming is not permitted in either of the two ponds. Catch and release fishing is permitted when the pond area is not otherwise being used. Each cabin can host 2 adults comfortably and cots without linens can be provided with an additional cost for up to two kids. We have now added private shower stalls outside each cabin using water bags heated by the Sun. We tried them and on a 68 degree F day, three hours of direct sun produced heated water in excess of 105 degrees F, as hot as many home showers.

Cabin was right up by road heard traffic constant ,neighbors was just across street cutting grass heard lawnmower running ,oil rig running a very noisy place to stay no solitude.
I paid for a whole weekend and we stayed 12 hours then left. The place has no electricity. So obviously no fridge or tv. For that kind of money is ridiculous. Do not stay here.
I emailed the owner on 8/10/25 with zero response. Tent camping is also promitive but please dont boast about important amenities that arent there. I got an email before check in that said wood would be provided. Heres the email I sent him:Thank you for all your help while we stayed! I dont wish to put out a review but just tought I would give you input. We did realize that it was a primitive stay. From your email above in this thread, it was understood that firewood would be there. If its until it runs out, that's totally fine but we were under the impression that there was firewood there, so we didn't pick up any until later. The missing shower bag from our cabin, we used one from the other cabin until your assistant came to help. We then realized the water was not functioning at the picket and let her know that as well. It would be appreciated if we could get a partial refund from means beyond our control with the water issue. The gentleman that came Saturday morning was VERY nice and helpful! It seems as though your assistant is not very responsive as she did not respond to my texts/calls until I contacted you. Once she arrived Friday around 8pm, she replaced the shower bag that we used from the other cabin and told us sometime tomorrow we would have water and for time being, we could use the spicket on side of log cabin house. The grounds seems to of been landscaped recently and there was alot of very dry leaves and brush in the shower area and s

Our family bought the property in 1954 when I was three years old. I have lived here most of the time since 1957. I built my own log home here in 1995-1996. I have lived here ever since. I am an Ohio attorney by trade but easing into retirement. My wife is from Spain and we are completing 24 years of marriage this year. Together we have made many improvements to the property over the years. I greatly enjoyed completing the promitive cabins with our own touches and labor. It was our desire to make them, even though primitive, to be comfortable, relaxing and fun.
Why they chose this property
This property is located less than 3 miles outside Logan the county seat of Hocking County, Ohio. Whether you wish to enjoy Wayne National Forest trails, the Hocking Hills caves area, pizza delivered to your door or one of the many restaurants in the area, you are only minutes away from them all. New Stratsville, touted as the Moonshine Capital of the World, is only a few miles farther out the road and is 4 wheeler friendly.
What makes this property unique
If you like wildlife, deer visit the common areas around the cabins virtually every day and night. When they come in, see if you can stay still enough that you don't scare them away. Although they avoid people, coyotes can sometimes be heard in the surrounding hills and down next to Old Town Creek. On Thursdays, the sound of a "hit and miss" engine from oil well production on an adjoining propoerty can actually lull you to sleep. It has a new engine and is so quiet that you soon forget that it is running. I took up the hobby of making wooden long bows. You can make one in about 16 hours after some practice. If I am around, I'd be happy to give you some tips to et you started or you might be able to give me some as well. My wife an I cook paellas in the original Valenciana style. We'd be happy to give you some tips on that or how to make the easiest Sangria you have every tried, if we are around when you stay. Hope to see you soon and hope you have a wonderful time wherever you choose to stay.
