About the host
Hosted by Diane Carrier
My husband and I have been spending summer vacations in Wells for almost 30 years. We have created wonderful family memories here and have always dreamed of owning a vacation home in the area. This dream came true in 2010 when my husband spotted this house and decided this was going to become our beach house.
Why they chose this property
I had my reservations about this house! This house was built in the late 1800's by a sea captain. The people we purchased the home from had owned it since the mid 50's and made very little improvements over the years. Let's just say it was a true 'fixer upper' and if my husband wasn't a General Contractor I would have never agreed to the purchase of this house.
It took over a year to obtain approval from the Environmental Protection Agency to start renovations. This meant the house needed to remain true to the original footprint. It was very challenging to add modern day amenities within the existing layout. Meanwhile the house needed to be raised and moved so the existing basement could be filled in and a slab poured for the renovated house to sit. Overall, it was a daunting and amazing process! The renovations were finally completed in the spring of 2012 and we couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. This very old and neglected house had come to life again!

What makes this property unique
The views from this house are spectacular! You can sit on the porch and watch sail boats pass and seals at play. From the side porch you can watch the various birds and wildlife in the marshland and the researchers tracking them. There is something to see from every room in the house!
Crescent Beach is a just a brief walk from the house. Moody Beach is approximately a 15 minute walk. On occasion, we've taken the trolley into Ogunquit to have dinner and then walked from Ogunguit Beach to Moody Beach back to the house.
