Everything with the stay was great and the hosts were great as well. The only problem was with the bar right on the outside of the place. It was very loud all night with people yelling and cars driving past.
This is in the historical area of Soulard. Its an amazing location with plenty to do within 5 min walming distance. The private parking is also very nice to know that I always had a place to park my car.
Stayed for my 30th birthday weekend with some friends. The Moxie was a great place to stay for this type of occasion or any occasion for that matter! It was true to the pictures you see on the site! Very clean and well taken care of. The location is perfect for walking to everything in Soulard, we didn’t drive anywhere the entire weekend, it was great! We also felt very safe with our two private parking spaces. The host was a terrific communicator as well, very responsive. All in all it was one of my best birthdays! I highly recommend this spot!
We had an amazing time in St. Louis, and staying at The Doxie was absolutely perfect. Its location couldn’t have been better—right across the street from a shuttle to the ballpark and just a few minutes to downtown. The unit had everything we needed. and the neighborhood was lively and vibrant. We wouldn’t hesitate to book here again!
Lovely digs! Cozy with all the touches of home away from home. Exactly as described. Per other guests, if you are light sleeper, plan for earbuds when the bar next door is active.
We were very happy with the rental and the owners were very pleasant. The only downside would be the location is right by a bar and the noise level went on until one in the morning. The house itself was very charming and we appreciated the amenities left by the owners.
Great location! Clean. Comfortable beds. Appreciate laundry available. Couches are a bit small and shower could use more water pressure. A little loud at night but to be expected due to proximity of bars. Host was very responsive and provided a helpful binder.
The Doxie was a wonderful place to stay for an April weekend. It was close to the ballpark, and there are even two nearby restaurants with free shuttles to the game. The courtyard was magical with flowering trees and singing birds. The unit was clean with lots of thoughtful touches.
Great location. I travel to St Louis often and this cozy rental is impressive. The hosts have thought of everything. The unit is clean and well cared for and well equipped. Beds are comfortable too. Host was accessible and responded quickly to our questions. I will definitely make this a regular stop in St. Louis.
We had a lovely experience at The Doxie in Soulard. We stayed 4 nights and loved the proximity to the St Louis City. We walked around the area to experience several restaurants and the Soulard Farmers Market. I walked to downtown and was at Busch stadium and the Arch in about 30 mins.
The accomodations were clean and as described in the listing. There were many conveniences provided such as coffee and common toiletries.
We would absolutely stay here again!

Appreciate it Heidi - we're so glad you had a nice stay! Thank you for being a great guest!
I loved the area!! So close to everything! Some had said in other reviews that it’s noisy. It is! But it’s not bad and we love people watching. We did the market twice!! That was great! Ate at Mollys. Had coffee at the protagonist cafe. I’d definitely like to return with adults!! As far as the property… it’s quaint! Loved all the dachshund pictures and Knick nacks. I’d return. I’d also recommend it!!
This townhome was a delight to call home for a couple nights as we explored St. Louis. The kitchen was stocked with all the dishes, pots and pans, and silverware we could need, and plenty of towels were provided for the kitchen and bathroom. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were so soft!
Be aware that the neighborhood is very active, and it will be noisy at night. We thought the noise significantly decreased by midnight each night, but if you are a light sleeper, you may have trouble!
While we tend not to duplicate vacation destinations, if we return to St. Louis in the future we will stay here again!
We loved staying at the Doxie. The owner was very communicative and the property was just as described. The decor is eclectic and cool. It had a great vibe. We love staying in Soulard, but be prepared for noise at night due to the close proximity of neighborhood bars. If you are a light sleeper, bring your ear plugs and you will be fine!
We appreciated the designated off street parking and the little extra touches inside like snacks and beverages and all the cooking spices and condiments one would need. The beds were comfortable and the courtyard at the back of the property was peaceful. There is a small terrace off the back bedroom if you want to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. The bathroom was clean and well appointed with plenty of towels, etc. It was within walking distance of The Protagonist bookstore/coffee shop and the Farmer's Market as well as our favorite breakfast place, Maukis. It is super close to downtown and not too far from The Hill! We would definitely stay here again!
The Doxie was absolutely beautifully decorated and is conveniently located in the mix of historic Soulard. We were only ever 10-15 minutes from everything and the private parking in the back was CLUTCH! Our kids loved the little touches like the bath robes and the record player. We stayed for a week and had plenty of pillows, towels, and wash cloths. We didn't use the shampoo, conditioner, or body wash due to having specific skin condition requirements in our fam. However, they do offer the good stuff here! We didn't cook here, but rest assured there is every pot, pan, utensil you could possibly need and one impressively massive stove! There's 2 washers, 2 dryers and complimentary detergent, and dryer sheets available, which we happily used to speed through our laundry our last day there. Most of all, our family enjoyed feeling like we were staying at a home away from home. Although there is a lot of bars in the area, there are a lot of restaurants within those bars with their own unique menus. We walked to a lot of the businesses in the area and absolutely loved all that Soulard had to offer. Despite the Doxie being directly next to 1860 & across the street from Mollys, we didnt hear the establishments themselves at all from insid. We did however hear people outside the front doors more or less closer to closing time, and only from towards the front of the home. Unless you require complete silence, the noise warning is fair, but dont let it dissuade you from booking here.
Great location close to everything 10mins away from City Museum, Foundry, Arch, Union Station etc. Beds were very comfortable. Bring a sound machine it’s loud at night bars are everywhere around the area but we slept good with the machine on. The place needs a good deep clean inside and outside it does look a bit dilapidated but for the price it’s sort of expected to not be perfect. Owner allowed us to check in early which was a bonus and was very easy to communicate with.
This property was easy and the host was fantastic. The neighborhood was awesome for morning walks to coffee shops and also for drinks and nightlife. We will stay here again and recommend it to all of our friends.

About the host
Hosted by James T Lettau
My wife, Laura, and I are transplants to St. Louis. She is from Philadelphia and I am from Pittsburgh. We moved here in 2012 for new jobs, met each other, and fell in love with each other and St. Louis! We live in Soulard and are very passionate about this neighborhood. We own two businesses in Soulard, Protagonist Cafe (the local coffeeshop and used bookstore) and Pieces (a board game bar and restaurant). We live above the coffeeshop and are highly active in neighborhood groups and boards. Laura loves to compare us to Luke and Lorelai from The Gilmore Girls, especially after we started our AirBNB and Vrbo journey!
Why they chose this property
We purchased this property from a long-time resident of Soulard who operated this space as a short-term rental for 30 years! The moment we stepped foot on it, we knew it was magical. The moment you step on the property you are surrounded by an open-air Courtyard filled with beautiful foliage and aged ivy cascading up the historic brick building. It truly is a quiet oasis away from the urban setting. The Dackel itself is a modern, clean, renovated space that makes you feel at ease the moment you enter. The first thing we hear most of our guests do upon arrival is throw on a record, pop open a bottle of complimentary wine, and relax.
What makes this property unique
Location! Location! Location! You are walking distance from quaint coffeeshops, the highly popular and historic Soulard Farmer's Market, and bars and restaurants (many of which are known for their gorgeous outdoor courtyards and patios). The Dackel is also a 5 minute Uber drive from Downtown so you can easily access the Arch, the Cardinal's, the Blues, music venues, and the new Ferris Wheel and Aquarium! If you're more of a homebody, you can avoid the bustling activity outside by cozying up and making dinner as we provide all utensils for cooking. We are also within walking distance of a locally-owned grocer, Vincent's Market.
