About this property
New River Gorge Cottage w/ Hot Tub, Fire Pit, & Grill
Summary:
Elwood Cottage is a charming, newly-renovated home located in a small community in the West Virginia mountains, merely minutes from Wolf Creek mountain biking trails, and just 10 minutes from New River Gorge National Park!
The highlights:
- Relax in the hot tub!
- Roast marshmallows around the fire pit
- Hang out & grill on the front porch
- Stream on fast WiFi
- Drive 10 mins to New River Gorge Bridge & National Park
- Play cornhole & other yard games (or board games inside)
Enjoy!
The Space:
Our one-story (so no concern with stairs), family-friendly home is packed with amenities and fun for couples, families or groups of friends. The cottage is located in a neighborhood in the town of Oak Hill, WV with great restaurants, bars, and shops downtown.
The cottage includes:
- 2 bedrooms: Bedroom 1-Queen Bed, Bedroom 2-Twin over Queen bunk bed (sleeps 3!)
- A pull-out sofa in the living room (don’t worry, it’s comfortable!)
- Fully-stocked kitchen with stove/oven, microwave, and dishwasher
- Smart TV where you can quickly sign-in to your favorite streaming service
- Fast WiFi (50+ Mbps) that's more than enough to stream movies and hold video calls – perfect for working remotely
- AC in all the main rooms to keep you comfortable
Outside the cottage, we also have:
- Enjoy the hot tub after a long day exploring the area
- Outside fire pit with seating for your group
- A front porch with a grill – and space to relax with a cold beer or glass of wine
- An outdoor yard game treasure box full of activities for kids and adults: cornhole, volleyball, soccer balls, horseshoes, and many more!
Please note: Our cleaning team sweeps the deck, stairs, and walkways before each arrival, but due to the natural setting, you may still notice some leaves, pollen, or similar—especially during certain seasons. We appreciate your understanding as nature tends to leave its mark, no matter how often we tidy up!
We often take our three little kids and dog to the cottage with us, so we're very family- and dog-friendly. Unfortunately we don't allow cats (we're allergic).
Beyond the cabin itself, we love how close we are to New River Gorge National Park (only a 10 minute drive away). The park has excellent hiking, views from the bridge, and of course whitewater rafting. These are several outfitters to plan your river excursion or mountain biking trail ride right nearby.
Everything you need for a great getaway!

Great location and privacy created by hedges. Beds were comfortable and the space offered what we were looking for in communal gathering space and hot tub.

We loved how central and quiet this house was. It had everything we needed for our short spring break trip. Kids loved the bunk beds and the hot tub. The host was super responsive with any questions we had about the cabin or the area. Great stay!

This property was in a perfect location to access all of the outdoor adventures. The property is close to restaurants, grocery stores, and any amenities you may need. The hot tub was an added bonus.
Check in and out was effortless. The home was in good condition. Slight musty odor likely due to the age of the home. Plenty of linens and dishes. The neighborhood is quiet. Hot tub was nice and clean and great to use!

The house was perfect for our families two day visit to see our eldest daughter. The neighborhood is quiet, the amenities of the house fantastic, plenty of room for our family and two dogs. Highly recommend for any visit to the area.

We were traveling back to PA from Tennessee and decided to visit New River Gorge. We wanted to break up the drive so it was great to find a place to stay last minute close to the Gorge. The place was adorable and clean!

Can for a fall getaway to Tony's cabin with my young family. Was close to New river gorge entrance, and the house was recently outfitted. Had everything we needed - the fire pit and hot tub made for a fun outdoor weekend. Loved the outdoor games as well, the kids had a good time.
Cute, though the pictures & descriptions oversell it. Host is very well organized, everything is smooth and clear, and the place is relatively well provisioned. House is not in the woods, as described. It's in a hard-times, rural neighborhood, which is perfectly fine. The place simply seemed overpriced and over-hyped for what it actually is.
This home was just right for a long weekend of outdoor activities close by. The house was neat & clean and provided necessities. Nice hot tub! Keep in mind the parking situation is at a premium and a challenge for more than one vehicle.
Communication with our home manager was excellent as well.

We went to West Virginia mostly for white water rafting. This house was only 10 minutes away from Ace adventures. Loved the small yown. We enjoyed the house. The kids loved the game room and hot rub of course. I will say for future families, the doors do not lock. Not the bedroom or the bathroom, so bring a wedge if u and ur signifigant other want some privacy

Pretty much had everything we needed. We didn't use the hot tub, grill, or fire pit. In town, not much to choose from as far as nicer restaurants or things to do so we went to Fayetteville every day. Comfortable bed, room darkening curtains in the entire house, good suggestions in the folder on where to eat, things to do.

Bridge
The house is very cute. It rained so we didn’t use the hot tub and probably wouldn’t have because it’s not very private. Toured and hiked at the ‘big bridge’ which is stunning.

Overall, this property is everything that was promised! The house was clean, spacious, and in great shape. My friends and I only stayed one night to be close to New River Gorge Ntl. Park (10 minutes away!), but we had a great time. The host is also highly responsive and attentive. One thing I didn't notice before hand is that the house is in a neighborhood, but the shrubs keep it fairly private, so we didn't disturb anyone!
host cancelled my reservation the DAY of my booking (around 4:30pm!!) and made no effort to contact me to let me know. i got an email from VRBO saying it had been cancelled, which i didnt see until 8pm (when i was 30 minutes away). literally left me with no where to stay for the night.

About the host

I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.
Why they chose this property
We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and Elwood Cottage in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cottage is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
