About this property

Cute Bungalow in NewRiver Gorge National Park(sleeps 6, pet friendly)

We named this house Mample's because it was my grandmothers weekend get away. She loved the New River and wanted her family and friends to have a place to get away when they could. I remember weekends playing in that
front yard, just waiting on a train to go by so the engineer would blow his horn. The adults sitting on the porch watching us kids and enjoying the view of the River. Meadow Creek use to be a quaint little railroad town that has died off, with just residents and A LOT of good fishing and nostalgia. Mample's place sits right in the very heart of it. You can sit on the big front porch and look at the river behind what use to be a very busy store and watch what few trains that still go by. Use your imagination and you can be back in that little town visiting with the people on a Sunday afternoon. Or you can just get busy and FISH, Kayack, Canoe or hike Trails

Property was clean and spacious. Although the National Park was closed due to the shutdown, we still were able to do many things. The Bridge Walk was great, as was the Exhibition Mining Company. Having trains come by was interesting, and pretty neat.

As we wanted to visit New River Gorge National Park, this house was centrally located & very close to Sandstone Visitor Center. Plan ahead for food & supplies, as it is remote and not much around. My husband wants to return! It's a beautiful area & loved seeing the river. We got used to daily visits from the train.

The place was very comfortable and convenient to New River Gorge. Appreciated very much the ability to have our dogs stay with us. The dogs enjoyed the fenced in yard.

Quaint and Comfort

We booked last minute on our way to NC and no issues. We were able to make a few home cooked meals while on the road and get a good nights rest. Very clean and comfortable.

The communication was great. The host was avaliable for phone calls to help get settled, there was no signal for us on our carrier when we arrrived. Home was comfortable and clean. Good for a budget friendly stay. My only recommendation for renters, the closest grocery store of any kind is over 20 minutes away and its a small store with limited choices. If you have specific needs, I would come with it and not try to find it once you arrive.

Excellent Experience - don’t hesitate to book!

We were in WV for a family reunion and were so excited to find a place that was within our budget and close to the reunion. We were even more pleased when we arrived and saw things. From the location and layout to its cleanliness and amenities - everything was great. Check-in was seamless and the property owner was super responsive and helpful. We liked it so much we’re considering another - longer - trip this fall!

Second time stay

This is the second time I’ve stayed at the bungalow. It is near the river and quiet. You do have a train that comes by often, but it was to the thrill and amazement of my 10-year-old. We walked down to the river and fished a lot, which is only 100 yards from the bungalow. If you’re looking for granite countertops and an eight persons Jacuzzi, this might not be the place for you. It’s just a quiet old farmhouse that is clean and functional for a small family. You’ll do a lot of front porch sitting, especially in the morning with your 1st cup of Joe. The local people were friendly and seemed to appreciate your presence. There’s a small eatery closer to Sandstone and Hinton. I will definitely stay here again in the future. The price is reasonable, and I really didn’t have anything to complain about other than the train rolling through about two in the morning, but after a few days, I didn’t even mind.

Veterans Day Getaway

My husband and I had a 4 day weekend for Veterans day. We decided to take the Bridge Walk and explore some of the old coal towns in Nutallburg and Therman.

Great Family Getaway!

Great country get-a-way!

Great country home - was pretty cold out- and the heaters kept us plenty warm. New River is steps away- and the home had everything we needed. Host had great communication- and was easy to access. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!

Within an hours drive you can be at the New River Gorge Bridge, The Greenbrier Hotel, Pipestem State Park, Babcock State Park, Hawks Nest State Park, Grandview State Park, Winter Place Ski Resort, golf courses, White water rafting, horse back riding, mountain climbing, zip lining, fishing, hunting, shopping, eating, the list is endless. Just 3 miles from I64 and around the curve is our very own Sandstone General Store and Eatery where you will be able to gas your vehicles, boats, 4 wheelers, and get the best home cooked meal in Southern WV, we also have local crafts, sweets, basic groceries, preordered meals and catering (Call 304-466- 0426) you'll also be able to get bait, rent kayaks and book fishing tours through New River Trophy Outfitters (304-575-2918)
