About this property

Golden Dunes Luxury Log Home Overlooking Lake Michigan

This dream home was built in 2004-2005 and is a year-round home. The Loft Master bedroom with hand-hewn log queen bed has its own balcony overlooking the valley of maples to the east and the loft itself has the incomparable view of both dunes and Lake Michigan to the west. Attached to the master bedroom is a master bath with a glass tile double shower with inlaid mural. The dressing room/closet has its own hand-painted autumn mural.

The Golden Dunes cabin sits on 26 acres of beautiful woods and a meadow and through the property we have made a NATURE TRAIL. It is well marked with an ART HUNT. The ART HUNT is a series of landscape art pieces to be discovered on the trail. Children, and, of course, adult children, love to spot the art pieces. If you think you would like to enjoy this activity, please request that we send you the ART HUNT attachment that gives directions, explanations, and photos.

There are 2 main floor bedrooms. The Flora and Fauna room has twin beds. The top shelf in the closet is full of family-oriented games, cards, puzzles, and toys for your entertainment. The Quilt Room has a double log bed with a single bunk above with the quilt theme throughout.

The main floor also has a full bath with a massage shower and a vanity sink. All towels and linens are furnished. Great room and full kitchen finish the main floor. There are French double sliding doors out to the large deck. The main-floor bedrooms and the Great room have satellite TV with DVD and VCR.

The entrance level has a 2-1/2 car garage, fully equipped laundry, and an entrance room with storage that includes water toys and floatables. The entrance room includes a small library closet with adult and children's books for your enjoyment. An inflatable raft for your use is in the garage.

There is a lovely Nature Trail throughout our property. It is divided into two loops: a much longer one to the left as you enter, and a shorter one. This trail is well-marked with painted red circles outlined in yellow and takes you to all areas of the 26 acres. Feel free to explore the hills, woods, and meadows. You are free to hike, cross-country ski, or snowshoe on the full property.
There are other interlocking trails, that are wider, not marked, but easy to walk. So, for more adventure - follow the marked trails; more leisurely - stroll the wide-mowed trails.

An outdoor grill and plenty of seating on the large deck are provided.

The laundry room has broom, vacuum, and other cleaning supplies you may need throughout your stay.

An open sand area is great for children playing while adults enjoy the view or s'mores over the fire. Please never cut living trees. There is plenty of downed wood on the property. The fire pit also has plenty of seating in a great open area to enjoy evenings under the stars.

NOTE: During July and August ALL reservations are for 7days from Friday to Friday

I am in my mid-70s, mostly retired. I enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and the serenity of privacy in my own space. I built this home from very special circumstances that we will share upon rental if requested. It is quite an amazing, heartfelt story. I love this home and have placed special artwork from different countries we have visited there as well as some of my own original artwork. I am the artist of the family. You will notice the rendition of the dunes in the Great Room as well as a birch bark watercolor and the rock (all rocks from Lake Michigan) mosaic on the retaining wall as you come up to the property. There are also other paintings and a photo wall divider created by me of the area. I am a collectible artist with works in galleries and permanent collections. Several canvas photographs of the area are for sale: if you have an interest please contact me after or during your stay.
The coat racks in the entry are handmade, Jill painted them with native herbs: check them out! The brass bell collection that hangs on the stairway is also Jill's innovation. We enjoy meeting and conversing with people from all over and their unique stories. We rent the home, not only to be able to pay the taxes but also because we enjoy sharing this lovely, beautiful spot with others. Our home is in DeWitt, MI. which is only 145 miles distant so easily accessible by us on a regular basis.

Why they chose this property

This is a house that I custom-built. I had the wonderful pleasure of designing it and seeing it through to completion. It is my dream. I have always wanted a place that looks toward the setting sun. There is something magical about it. The west coast of Michigan is quite well-developed, but this section is not quite so overrun by tourists and has such unique features. Where else can you ride on the dunes? You can find that home-town atmosphere with a local restaurant (the Open Hearth Grill) that utilizes foods from this location. As you drive to the house you pass orchards - white and pink in the spring , hanging with apples and cherries in the summer. You also pass graceful fields of asparagus-golden in the autumn.

What makes this property unique

It is especially lovely to walk the 26 acres and enjoy the stars from the deck at night. There is an unobstructed view, with no city lights intervening, of the Milky Way and the Summer Triangle. There is a family of turkeys who go by daily on their rounds, clucking and spreading their tail feathers. Deer are often seen on the property. Where else do you need to go for rejuvenation? After being at the beach or the dunes during the day, it is ABSOLUTELY wonderful to have your own space in the evening.
