What a dream!

We had an absolutely amazing time at this property, the pictures don’t do justice for how stunning it really is. Our plans changed several times and the hosts were very helpful, communicative and accommodating. It is in a pretty small town, but only a short drive or bus ride to Otavalo, which has a large market and everything you need. The internet was great for working remotely, we had plenty of space, and really everything we needed. I would recommend this place a million times!

Book this place now!

We stayed at the lodge for a month and it was the trip of a lifetime. This place was amazing. The property is immaculately maintained and has views of the surrounding areas which are amazing. They were still breathtaking after a month. The property owner, Thomas is a absolutel gem. He knows the city and the people and always has the best advice for what to do. He and his wife were the best hosts imaginable. We're definitely coming back again next year.

Amazing Stay We Will Never Forget

Incredible house and host. My girlfriend and I stayed at Thomas's house for 5 weeks while working remotely and exploring Ecuador. The house and property are beautiful. Everything you need for an extended stay is available. We enjoyed the hot tub, grilling on the back porch, walking in the garden, and playing with the dogs/cats. Really relaxing environment that is good for work or vacation. We couldn't have asked for a better host. Thomas helped plan all our trips and is extremely knowledgeable about Ecuador and the surrounding area. By the end we really felt like we were at home and were sad to leave, but we will be back! Definitely book a stay here. You won't regret it!

Peaceful place amazing for groups, retreats & more

We hosted a group trip at Four Volcanos and had an incredible time. There was plenty of space perfect for group gathering, lovely conversation, yoga, mediation and more. Thomas was a great host, checking in with us and always around if we needed anything - plus lots of local hookups! I can't wait to return with more groups in the future. Thank you!!!

Happiness in San Pablo

My husband and I with our 21 and 23 year old kids were so happy with our week at the 4 Volcanoes Lodge. Thomas was very easy to communicate with and answered my many questions before our stay. We greatly enjoyed the house (and hot tub, well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, truly plentiful hot water, reading nooks) and oh my the garden!! The gardener, Antonio, was a welcome presence, very kind at my feeble attempts at Spanish. And Antonio’s wife who is the housekeeper was lots of fun and so helpful. We spent our days relaxing, reading, hiking, and going on walks. The village has plenty of small shops, a good fruit and vegetable market, and we lacked for nothing. We were happy to take Thomas’ advice to have Milton pick us up from the airport and drive us to the house. (Our flight was horribly delayed and we were groggy, but Milton was very kind!) Milton who is also a history teacher, was available for two other excursions, and he is a very safe driver and very knowledgable. We highly recommend Milton! And this lovely unique property. Go. You’ll love it!

Fantastic house and an even better host

We are a family of 6 people who travel frequently and often stay in HomeAway properties. Thomas is the kindest and most helpful host we have ever met. He helped us organize meals, care for a sick child, figure out wonderful things to do in the area and more. The house and property are fantastic. We fell in love with Freida the dog and loved seeing the baby ducklings. The sunsets were gorgeous. We did not want to leave even though we were going to the Galapagos. We recommend staying here for as long as you can. One thing we didn’t realize is that because the Quito traffic is so bad, getting here from the airport takes around the same amount of time as getting to downtown Quito.

Beautifully enchanting. A dream come true.

We would go back again and again. The property is serene. We renewed our vows of 20 years here. Thomas did an amazing job making sure all the vendors could have access with out disruption to us. There was plenty of space that accommodated our family 40+. The kitchen is the heart of the home had everything we needed. We originally thought our family would be here with us one day. But after seeing 4Volcanos Villa some spent the night and others returned the next day. Everyone was in love with this property. We are planning to return for another stay.

Fantastic experience at a magical property!

Wow, we feel so lucky we were able to stay at this incredible house for 3 months. Everything is beautiful, filled with light and an open airy feeling. The house is surrounded by views of the volcanoes from every room. The walls are made of white adobe and towering glass windows that made us feel like we were outdoors even when we were inside. There is a giant sculpted tree fireplace in the living room that helped to create a wonderful ambiance in the evenings. The kitchen is well equipped with high end gourmet cookware and appliances. The beds were comfortable, cozy and warm. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a park like setting, including a great labyrinth that you can stroll through and spend a lovely afternoon. There are even 2 cats and 3 ducks that will join you as you walk! The owner/caretaker Thomas lives on the property in a separate house. He is always there if you need him for anything. He has extensive knowledge of Ecuador and great advice on everything to do in the surrounding areas. He has created a sanctuary of creativity and great energy at the house and is great to connect with and share stories. He is truly a gem! The town San Pablo de Lago is a 5-minute walk from the house. It is a great little village - you can get all of your basic needs there - eggs, bread, produce, cafe, etc. The people were all friendly and warm and (especially if you speak a little Spanish) will make you feel so welcome. Do yourself a favor and experience this incredible house!

Wonderful house, amazing views, hikes out the door

We had the most enjoyable week at 4 Volcanos in San Pablo del Lago. The house is beautiful with walls of glass providing spectacular views. Thomas is a wonderful host, he really enhanced our stay and helped suggest/organize some great outings. We adored spending time in the great room taking in the spectacular sunsets before lighting a fire in the “tree” fireplace. We even managed to use the fire pit BBQ one night while star gazing. We’d never traveled to that part of Ecuador before and were so impressed with the all there was to do from visiting a crater lake, the otovalo artisanal market, snow capped volcanoes, lake activities in San Pablo, the list is endless and it’s all available so close to Quito. We hope to spend a lot more time in the area and look forward to visiting Thomas and his kids again!

Breathtaking views, Gorgeous home, Wonderful host!

Imagine waking up everyday, looking out of huge windows, where from every vantage point in the house, you see volcanoes, mountains and lush gardens. The house - absolutely beautiful and with such a rich history; The host Thomas - so very kind, accommodating and knowledgeable about the area, the people and things to do; The weather - perfect! Even with brief showers our first week, the temperature was always mid 60s during the day, nice and cool mid 40s at night. The people - friendly and pleasant, just make sure to have your basic Spanish phrases ready since very few if any people in the town speak English. We requested a chef for 3 meals a day and chef Klever is amazing and talented giving us delicious food every single day. The star gazing at night - breathtaking. I researched SEVERAL vacation homes in Ecuador but none of them compared to the 4 Volcanoes - nothing! I highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to experience a place that I can truly call "home." You'll love it!!

What can we say....

What an amazing place!!! The weather is perfect, the views breathtaking. Our one month stay gave us the opportunity to insert ourselves into small village life where we were welcomed like neighbors. For one month this house truly became our home. Thomas made us feel so comfortable - he and his sons even shared the Super Bowl with 2 Eagles fans far from home! We honestly cannot say enough about our stay at 4 Volcanoes - the fully equipped kitchen was a real plus. It's an easy walk to town for fresh vegetable, staples, and really fresh chicken, eggs, and delicious bread. San Pablo del Lago is small but there are also several options if you want to go out for a meal or a late afternoon glass of wine to watch the sunset. Don't miss the papas fritas in the square at night. We didn't rent a car - we used the modern, comfortable, local bus (senior fare of 35 cents each to Otavalo) or very reasonably priced taxis ($5 or $6 to Otavalo or about $12 to Cotacachi) to get where we needed to go. The bus runs almost every 10 minutes and stops right outside the gate. You can hail a taxi or walk 7 minutes to the town square. For our trip to and from Quito, Thomas arranged for transportation. Safety was never a concern. We only speak a little Spanish but language never seemed to be a barrier to getting around or ordering a meal. We are home less than a day but already miss 4 Volcanoes.

Intriguing location

There is something mystical about the villa and location. The earthen walls nestle your sleep, which was fantastic. The residential animals, (cats, dogs and geese) are the right combination of friendly but leave you at peace. The volcanos play hide and seek with the clouds, revealing themselves episodically with grandeur. There are many many things to see and do in the area. With Thomas' expert knowledge of the area and fine drivers to recommend, we saw so much more than if we had tried to trek on our own. Definitely worth the trek. Beautiful country and beautiful people.

I loved everything about it!

Simply put, this property is incredible and I wouldn't hesitate to return with a big or small group, Our group (family) was 11 and were very comfortable in the space and made even more comfortable by the hospitality of Thomas. He arranged meals in the house (Clever), transportation all week (Milton) and spent time with us planning every part of our trip. The village of San Pablo has good basic offerings and the setting of the house makes you feel instantly part of the community. Yolanda and her husband take care of the house/property each day and have been there for years. Each day we would return to multiple fireplaces ready to light and a house ready to enjoy. The scenery literally changes by the minute with various volcanoes peaking through the sky at any moment. Flowers and birds were plentiful on the property and bees producing incredible honey for the breakfast table. No issues with any of the group on altitude and that included a significant hike that began right outside the doorstep. The house was a great central point for all the places we traveled and a perfect size for times we wanted to converge for a big meal and times we wanted things a little more quiet. Can't wait to return someday!

Great Location for groups and retreats

The 4 volcanoes lodge is sincerely still the best place I ever had in 10 years for my retreat groups! An oasis of peace, perfect for intense and personal coaching work, awesome location, unique place and energy. You feel comfortable and safe in this luxury and welcoming home. Thomas the lodge owner is a lovely host, solves every problem you might have and gives everyone the feeling to be at home. He makes everything possible. We needed a cook during our week and he organized everything, we had EXCELLENT food! We really spent a wonderful time there. All my group participants enjoyed their stay so much, they left super happy and fulfilled. Thanks so much!!

Great location with very nice owner

I had been to Ecuador from Germany for several times, but the 4 Volcanoes lodge was the greatest location. Very nice rooms and excellent service. As Otavalo is nearby you can easily travel to a lot of beautiful places. Thanks to the owner, Thomas, I will surely come back.

Awesome place - great time!!!

This place is really special and magic! A wonderful location, great view and so calm. We really felt at home from the first moment. This was especially due to Thomas, the lodge owner who gave us a very warm welcome and was available for every support we needed. I booked the lodge for a retreat and all my participants loved that place and enjoyed their time so much. Everything was just perfect, Yacuzzi, roof terrace, fireplace... Highly recommended - I don´t know a better place in that area and I will come back for sure!

Four Volcanoes is a slice of heaven

Our family spent a week at Four Volcanoes. The home is very comfortable and also stunning. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding area and then coming "home" to quality family time. The sunsets from the terrace and roof are incomparable. Thomas and Christina are very attentive owners and their staff is the best! One night Juanita and Klever came to cook pizzas in the wood-fire grill for us and they brought their 4 year-old son Benjamin to play with my 4 year-old granddaughter. Another night Thomas and Christina helped organize a very fun parrillada for our daughter's wedding rehearsal party. Their staff worked so hard to make the night special for us. We loved having a party in this beautiful home with a gorgeous view. More importantly, we were given the opportunity to join two families in an informal get together at Four Volcanoes. We were no longer two separate families after spending the afternoon and evening together -- eating, drinking, chatting, dancing -- we were now friends and one family. Our stay at Four Volcanoes was magical. We hope to return soon.

Amazingly beautiful property

If you look at this property and are not blown away with how beautiful it is, you (and not the property) have a problem :) The grounds are so well kept, and the interior is absolutely stunning too. Lots of large windows to enjoy the spectacular view of Mount Imbabura. My family, consisting of my wife, six young children, and me, stayed here for 2 1/2 weeks and had a great experience. Thomas was very easy-going and nice to deal with. He was also very kind to our kids. The property is well-suited for kids; it has a little playground (swing set with slide), a wooden fort, and lots of grassy areas to run around on. The property is also very safe. San Pablo del Lago is a very safe town, plus the property has a large wall around it. During our stay, I had to return home for one week to work, and I was not nervous at all about my wife and kids' safety. Thomas also has some good connections for transportation (he arranged transportation from the Quito airport for us, and we also used his recommended taxi driver a couple of times). He also knows a lot about the area and can help identify lots of things to do. We also appreciated having laundry facilities and extra drinking-water tanks (extra charge). I highly recommend 4 Volcanoes and would definitely stay there again.

Truly Special

We stayed for the month of February [4 of us for first two weeks, 6 of us for last two weeks]. The home is spacious, well-appointed and as described on the website. The climate in the Andes is spring-like and the views of the surrounding volcanic landscape are spectacular. Thomas, the owner, is readily available and exceedingly helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations as well as his recommendations for things to see and do. Thomas is also a wealth of knowledge about Ecuadorian shamanism, wellness and spiritual healing....... Take him up on his offer to enjoy a visit with a local shaman. Yolanda and Antonio are exceptional caretakers of the property and will assist with most anything including laundry, meals [...try the outside pizza oven] and maintenance of the outside hot tub. The town of San Pablo, with small shops and a daily market, is a short walk away as are great local dining venues such as Hacienda Cusin and Cabanas Del Lago. The location of the house allows for numerous day and overnight tour opportunities including Otavalo, Iberra, Cotacachi, Quito, Cotapaxi, Banos and Mindo [just to name a few]. We suggest hiring a driver/guide to fully enjoy your Ecuadorian experience. We highly recommend this outstanding hacienda as your home base in Ecuador......we can't wait to go back.

Loved the house and the host!

This is a very nice house; you can see that from the pictures. The decor is uncluttered and spacious. The views are terrific. What really makes this house worth five stars is Thomas, the owner/on-site host. He spent so much time with us answering questions about the area. We hired him for a day to visit Zuleta (wild Andean condors), Ibarra, and Manual Andrango (master weaver). It was one of the best days from our 2.5 week vacation. If you stay here, take advantage of Thomas' knowledge and expertise. --------- The house's location is fun, just off the main road into town. We could hear some of the political parades from the back porch and the local music. It is very convenient to Otavalo and Cotacachi.

Paradise found .

This house is the epitome of serenity and tranquility placed in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. We were so blessed to have had this paradise for 2 weeks over the Christmas and New year break. The home is so spacious that you get your exercise just walking the floors and the grounds. The weather is absolutely perfect all year round. Christina and Thomas will guarantee that you have a great time as they are more than willing to share the many activities in the area with you. If you are an adventurous traveler Thomas has a Landrover and is willing to take your group on excursions to Intag or to the jungle or wherever. Christina is always more than willing to offer suggestions on destinations or to book a helpful taxi driver or a maid or cook when you need it. They have three wonderful and adventurous children living nearby that played with our kids when we wanted some downtime too. In this area itreally is not necessary to rent a car. The taxis were very inexpensive and the bus service to Otavalo was frequent and dirt cheap. The home is full of many books and games for both adults and kids to enjoy after a day full of activities. Also, the village is only about a 5 minute walk from the house if you are searching for some fresh bread or ice cream for the kids or maybe some a beer or two for yourself. It was so convenient. If you are looking at Ecuador as a holiday destination do not look any further than 4 Volcanoes. The memories we will have of this wonderful home and location will stay with us forever.

Good but under the expectations

The house is spacious and in good technical condition. It is a quite new house, quite nice architecture, but not a heritage mansion as expected. The house is located along the main road of a normal village, 20mn drive from Otavalo centre. From the village there is nothing exciting to expect. The bus stop is next to the home with connections with Otavalo every 10mn which is convenient. Taxis are also not expensive. In the home there hardly no personal touch. Upon our arrival the home was clean but nothing else was giving the signal that guests were expected, the kitchen was empty, the bathrooms without any cosmetics other than a pure soap. When we asked for a cook, this was each time a nice experience and good value for the money. But the price asked for the cleaning service is 10USD/hour which we found a litlle excessive. In general, the home has a real potential but disappointing becouse of the lack of soul. It is probably because it is part of a business, made to rent, it is not the owner’s home. You could expect more from some hotel rooms. Otavalo is an interrestion city with exciting day trips around.

An Oasis of Beautiful Scenery and Spacious Living

Our stay at the 4 volcanoes lodge represented our first impression of Ecuador. This home is as truly captivating as depicted in the pictures of the VRBO website. It is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, and the home itself is absolutely beautiful, spacious, and peaceful. We could not have asked for a better place to live for the first 30 days of our journey through Ecuador. The owners of the home (Thomas & Christina) were so helpful and kind. Upon our arrival, we had so many questions and needed a lot of assistance. They took the time to answer our questions, help set up doctors appointments for our pregnant daughter in law, set up Spanish lessons for the entire family of 8 adults, and set up transportation for trips around the Quito area. Oh, and the jar of honey was absolutely amazing. We are so grateful for their kindness, generosity, and Ecuadorian wisdom. Their sacrifice helped ensure our stay was pleasurable and enjoyable. We highly recommend this beautiful home to others who are seeking a beautiful, spacious, and peaceful place to stay. You won't be discouraged!

A fantastic experience staying in a Andean Villa with breathtaking veiws.

The 4 Volcanoes Villa was wonderful!!! We stayed (6 of us) for 10 days and never tired of the wonderful, ever changing views of the volcanoes from every vantage point in this open, spacious and Fung Shui home. The best part was the huge indoor fireplaces with a plentiful supply of the best smelling firewood, that we had burning nightly in the month of June. The climate is cool and what a treat to be able to enjoy this as well as the Jacuzzi, filled up and ready to relax in, at your request. The glass floor to ceiling windows and doors can be opened up completely, to give the feel of being totally outdoors. We enjoyed soft comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen, ample reading material and a huge dining table for the meals we prepared or had cooked for us by the hired cook. The walk into the village is easy and very safe, the bus to Otavalo comes directly in front of the gated entrance for 35 cents. The buses are modern, clean and safe to ride. The Villa is exactly as described in the listing, and is immaculately maintained. A cleaning woman is available if you want or need, during your stay. There is no television (not needed) or music system, so if you want music, bring something portable . We did not get to meet Thomas Ring, who was away at the time of our stay, we were greeted and assisted with all of our needs by Christina, his wife, who was always there on site in their separate home, and 100% helpful. (Things to be aware of that certainly were not negatives but just part of the way of life in Ecuador, be patient with your needs for a HOT shower, this may be inconsistent due to the plumbing (gas and solar power), and toilets do not accept flushing paper.) We stayed during the Inti Raymi Festival of the Sun, and I can still hear the wonderful musical sounds of the panpipes coming from the surrounding Andes mountains villages throughout the evening and into the night, into the villa with the windows open, and see the locals dancing through the narrow streets, and only wish I was still there. This is a truely wonderful home and location.

Beautiful Retreat

Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our time at 4 Volcanoes. The beds are gloriously comfortable and the views from the house absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed many family meals cooked in the well equipped kitchen and explored the area with ease. The house's proximity to Otavalo, Parque Condor, San Antonio, Laguna Cuicocha and more was very helpful for exploring without spending many hours in the car. In the evenings and mornings we enjoyed the quiet of San Pablo. Thank you for sharing your home with us Ring family!
