This newly available cottage is tucked away alongside a beautiful, crystal-clear creek, only 1.6 miles from the quaint downtown of Highlands. The Firefly has been lovingly filled with handpicked antiques, furnishings, art, and thoughtful touches that capture the area’s rich history and rugged charm, all with the convenience of fiber internet—a true rarity in Highlands!

You’ll be a short drive to an incredible number of trails, waterfalls, fishing streams, overlooks and lakes with downtown just up the road for dining and shopping. When you’re not out and about soaking up the area’s natural wonders, curl up beside the firepit and watch the sunset dance on the water while you roast marshmallows or catch sight of the family of deer who pass through each day. Enjoy a glass of wine on one of the screened in porches that overlook the creek just a few steps away or hole up indoors with a puzzle or a board game. The Firefly is a truly special retreat no matter the time of year.

Peaceful Cabin Getaway

Nicely refinished cabin in a quiet cove. Beautiful stream runs through the property creating a peaceful setting. A short drive to Main St in downtown Highlands.

This was our 2nd time staying here. We love the screened patio and sounds of the creek. We were so happy to see the moccamaster coffee maker, we have the same one at home and love it. Glad we could spend another week at Firefly Cottage, thank you!

Just amazing!

Just a bit further than where have VRBOd before - this is our favorite Highlands cottage. I could say after 20 years and staying with friends around Mirror Lake - don’t expect to go to restaurants and have cocktails after 5:00 and motor back - bring your own family favorites and grill or heat up in the oven. We especially loved sitting on the upper deck in the afternoon. Hint - my husband is an entomologist - amazing!

Please take a look and print the welcome letter to bring with you for easy reference. If for some reason the phone number on the reservation is not your cell, please text our property caretaker Tami & Carl (Phone number provided on booking) They welcome any questions you might have about our home and the area. Your door code will be the last 4 digits of the phone number you provided on your reservation and check in is at 4pm. You will find the cabin stocked with a fully equipped kitchen, linens, and other important supplies. You’ll also be close to a market for anything else you might need. If you will be visiting with your pup, we have food and water bowls, dog friendly towels, waste disposal bags and designated covers for the furniture. Please be sure to read the welcome letter for more information on making your pet’s stay a great one. We hope you enjoy your time in Highlands and wish you a restorative, memorable trip! What makes this property unique

The Firefly is a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath cottage perfect for a weekend getaway, extended vacation, artist’s retreat, or working remotely when you just need to escape the city. The master has a king-sized bed with an ensuite full bath and the second bedroom has a queen bed with a full bathroom in the hall. There are also 2 foldout cots and extra bedding at your disposal that provide additional sleeping for up to six people total. All bathrooms are newly renovated and the full bathrooms have heated floors. There is a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and every creature comfort you might need to feel at home. Outside, there are two screened in porches, an uncovered deck, and a firepit along the waterfront. The cabin is located in a very quiet neighborhood with abundant wildlife in the Horse Cove area, and there is designated parking for up to three cars. Dogs are permitted at the Firefly for an additional fee and we have plenty of pup friendly amenities for our doggy guests. Although we welcome children to the Firefly, please note that due to the nature of the railing that surrounds the staircase, the cabin is not suitable for toddlers or very little ones who are at a high risk of falling down stairs. Also please note there is absolutely no smoking on the premises whatsoever
