Sunset Cottage - Lakefront Cottage with Private Dock
Sunset Cottage is cozy, quaint, charming, and perfectly positioned for sunny days on the water. This 1940s lakefront gem sits just steps from Lake Wallenpaupack, from your front door to dipping your toes in the water is under 200 feet. Whether you’re paddling out at sunrise, grilling lakeside, or winding down by the fire pit as the sun sets in a burst of color, this cottage offers a peaceful summer retreat for couples, families, or friends.
Inside, the cottage combines vintage warmth with modern comfort. The open dining area offers sweeping lake views, and the electric fireplace adds a soft glow for quiet evenings indoors.
You’ll have private lake access and your own brand-new dock (2024) — perfect for swimming, boating, fishing, or simply lounging in the sun with a good book.
Included with your stay: • Peddle boat • 2 paddle boards • 2 kayaks • Private dock (available Memorial Day weekend through September)
Power boats are welcome, bring your own and tie off to the dock. (Please note: jet ski slips are not available for renters.)
A few things to note: • The cottage’s original 1940s charm means the bathroom is small and features a compact sink, as shown in the photos. It’s cozy but functional, in keeping with the cottage’s quaint character. • Access to the dock involves a short walk down an incline with stone and wooden steps. Guests with mobility concerns should use CAUTION. • Lake levels can fluctuate — expect high water in early summer (walkway may be slightly submerged) and shallower shorelines by late August.
Amenities: • Linens & towels included • Starter supply of toiletries, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags • Parking for 3 vehicles • Ring cameras outside for security
House Rules: • No parties • Dock available Memorial Day weekend through September • Boat rental available (inquire for details)
From sunrise paddles to sunset cocktails by the water, Sunset Cottage is where lake days linger and summer memories last.

This place was beautiful! Porch/dining area was huge , with beautiful views. Everything was clean, neat and every amenity was available. We took advantage of the kayak, pedal boat and paddle boards, and the fire pit, watching the sunset.
Beautiful view of the lake! We enjoyed sitting down by the lake on the Adirondack chairs taking in the view. The cottage was very clean and cozy and the AC unit was super efficient! We would definitely go back again!
Very quaint property. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen has more than enough supplies needed to live for a week! Dining room has a perfect view of the lake! The propane grill was nice to cook a burger a dog on which is all we needed! One of the best things we loved was the fire pit which looks out over the lake. We spent every night there with a fire and enjoyed watching the sunset!! We will be back!
It was a beautiful spot on the lake and close to the water. Water activity boats were a nice touch, and fishing right off the dock was really good. The Cottage was very clean, kitchen was small but very easy to prepare meals in and well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, etc. Dining area is huge, lots of seating and great view of the lake, could use some sunshades for late afternoon. Bedrooms are very tight but didn't spend much time in there except to sleep. The bathroom is small with nice size shower, but the corner sink was quite a challenge, using it without making a mess on the floor. The owners are very friendly and easy to reach and respond.
The view was lovely and the paddle boat and kayaks were a lot of fun!

Hi Michele,
Thank you for the 5 star review! I am so happy you enjoyed the paddle boat and kayaks. I enjoy the kayaks too and taking them to nearby Kipp island.
Thank you! Amber
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home. Beautiful view and the owner of the property well stocks the home not only with the necessities but also with paddleboards, a paddle boat, and dock which was great for fishing. Clean property inside and out.

Hose was very clean and neat. Had everything we needed and the host got back with answers to my questions very quickly. The bathroom was a little small but not a real issue.

Classic cottage feel. Communication with owners was easy and efficient. Property had all the basics plus extras like lake access and toys to play with such as paddle board and kayaks. If you’re looking for a traditional cottage at the lake, this is your place

Hi Louise,
Thank you for the 5 star review! I am so happy you enjoyed your week at the cabin. I know it is my favorite place to spend time.
Thanks! Amber
My family and I had a great time on our vacation. It was our first time renting a cabin and the location to the lake was great. The view from the dining room window was amazing and one of my favorite things. We were also able to use a paddle boat for the first time which came with the rental. I can’t wait to go to the lake again next year highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay! The house is exactly as described, despite the small size, it has everything you need for a great enjoyable trip. The host is very responsive! The dock was great as we brought our own wave runners! The kids also enjoyed the kayaks. We would recommend this house. I just would bring an air pump as that is the only thing the house does not have.

A little smaller than we thought it would be. But haveing a place to park your boat makes up for it.

Injuries
The first night we got there.I went to the lake lost my footing on the rocks and ended up in the lake dislocating.Tootoes injuring my knee and getting cut up on the rocks. And the next or Sunday night I got into bed and was promptly bitten by.I'm not sure what. I got cellulitis in the pand and now on high powered antibiotics. All of this made me very grateful for the view from the dining room as i was not able to walk easily and surely not painfree. It taken me this long to communicate, as i was doing my best to deal with my anger. Having spent so much money on 4 nights and after such injuries i didnt even want to be there. I am not clear on your policies for such events. A refund of some sort would be in order. Medical paperwork is available.

Highly Disappointed Stay!
At the first glance, you think the cabin is charming but once you place your things inside, you realize that the only bathroom in the entire place has a clogged microscopic sink pressed up against the corner of this 'hall bathroom' which you cannot fit an adult in without cramming yourself all the way inside, practically on top of the toilet JUST to close the door. Bathing my 1 year old was a disaster. My parent's who attempted to sleep in the other room literally couldnt sleep, my mom fell off the bed because the bed is slanted/broken so they ended up waking up at 4am and leaving after the 1st attempted night. My husband and I tried to utilize that room but even for 1 person to sleep there was impossible. The only somewhat functioning bed was the one where we had our infant sleeping in and with the creaking doors and floors, we decided it was best not to wake her at least so we slept on the floor in the living room! Disaster!!!! The cabin is NOT meant for small kids because they want to run around outside everywhere and it is ABSOLUTELY dangerous for any young kids to be outside because of the very harsh incline towards the water with a poorly paved pathway. I had to worry about my parents going up and down the pathway. I am SHOCKED that this house passed any inspection. As a VRBO property manager myself, I would be appalled if this were my property and I was allowing people to actually pay me money to stay here. Hope this helps other families!

Hi Marina,
Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate you sharing so we can ensure the best stay possible for all of our guests.
We wish we could have made your stay more comfortable. Next time, if something isn't up to par, reach out during your trip so we can address it ASAP. We're here anytime to help you have the best stay possible.
The bathroom drain clog has been repaired. Lastly, the walk way to the dock has more or less natural stones to walk on depending on the lake's water level. It is currently low and more natural stones are present.
Sincerely apologize for any inconvenience during your stay and very grateful for the feedback.
Best,
Amber
