About the host
Hosted by Martin Quinowski
Hi. My name is Martin...but I go by Marty. My father, Charles Quinowski, was in the business of buying fixer-upper homes and then either renting them out or putting them up for sale. His specialty was floor tiling, painting and wall papering. Growing up I was a helper along with my brothers. For a hard day's work, we were rewarded with what we jokingly nicknamed our treat, "a pie and a coke". The pie was usually a Hostess berry fruit pies and usually a cold Dr. Pepper along with it. I enjoyed working with my Dad and this is where I learned home construction and the rental business. I have had rentals from starting as a teenager where I owned two houses and was partners with a friend on a third while still just 19-years-old.
What is now the Off River Street Cottage, was the Off River Street Salon. After over 20 years of managing the salon business, in 2022, I closed down the hair salon and converted the home back to its original use of being a home. This is the first time i have tried the short-term rental business, so please leave me with any tips to make things better for guests.
Currently I am working for a mechanical engineering firm located in Boise where I do HVAC and plumbing design work.
Enough about me. I hope you enjoy your stay at Off River Street Cottage.
Why they chose this property
What is nice about this location is that it is walking distance to several parks including Katherine Albertson's Park, Ann Morrison Park, Esther Simplot Park, and Julia Davis Park. The Bois Greenbelt and Boise River are just a block away. The Pioneer Walkway just a block to the south will take you to downtown Boise. The Boise art museum, Boise History Museum, Anne Frank Memorial and Boise Zoo are all within walking distance. Hope you enjoy this location.
What makes this property unique
The Off River Street Cottage has a lot of history having been built in the 1920s. If you get a chance, visit the Erma Hayman house located just down the road on River Street. That home was also probably built in the 1920s but was built from sandstone rock. I bought the Horton's house from Mrs. Hayman some years back which is right next door to the cottage. Mrs. Horton and Mrs. Hayman were sisters. They were very nice ladies, and I am so thankful to Mrs. Hayman for selling to me her sister's house.
