Such a good time! The riad was very comfortable and well-located, but our host and his team really stood out, especially with connecting us to guides that were instrumental in making our trip special. Highly recommend,
Dar Beit Zellige was such a nice Riad experience for us: comfortable rooms; lots of space; interesting art collected by the hosts. What makes everything work so well is Omar, the local manager. He is absolutely delightful! He arranged tours, dinners, day trips, breakfast and is just so thoughtful and professional.
Everything was as advertised and we really enjoyed the property. The manager is first rate and will do everything to make your stay perfect. Thanks Omar!
We had a great time at the Riad. Easy to walk every where in the Medina and a long list of recommandations for dinner ready for the guests. After mind day of visiting it was always so nice to relax on the roof of the Riad listening to the noises of the city. All was perfect and hope to come back soon.Thank you.
We had a such a wonderful time at the Riad. The place is comfortably furnished and the rooftop was our own little oasis in the middle of everything. In fact the only thing that was not fully disclosed in the property description was the host. The idea of a “super host” doesn’t give Omar his due. Upon arrival he sat with us for over an hour served us food and made sure our days were planned out filling in gaps in our schedule with private drivers, tours and excursions. When one of us was ill he brought medicine to the Riad. When our driver for the day cancelled, he took us on the excursion himself, adding in stops along the way. We have never had anyone treat us as well.
We could not have picked a better house or location. The house is within walking distance to all attractions in the area including the Souq and the square and the two palaces.Check in process was easy. Omar is a great house manager. He had a taxi meet us at the airport and met us at the house. Very responsive and helpful. The house is real nice with plenty in of room. Everything is available so no need to buy anything. Highly recommended . Always felt safe and everyone is very friendly.
We booked 3 nights at Dar Beit Zellij and loved getting to know Marrakesh. The Medina and Souks are a short walk away. After long days exploring it was great to come back to a relaxing living room and air conditioning. ;) They have a welcome book full of great recommendations as well. Omar is the real star of the riad. He goes above and beyond to help with recommendations, transportation - anything you need. Never having been to Marrakesh before we had a ton of random questions and he was so patient with us. He made our trip so special.
This was my family's first time in Morocco. The home was exactly as pictured and the artwork even more beautiful in person. Omar, the property manager, was very attentive. He made sure we were comfortable, responded to unexpected things that occurred quickly, and ensured our trip was enjoyable. His wife Nora made us wonderful local breakfasts at a reasonable price. Omar arranged our private transportation and we used the service of Mohammed and his brother Younes the entire time we were there. The neighborhood was bustling with activity but safe. The riad experience in a walled city is like no other. We definitely felt immersed in the culture which is what we wanted. The third bedroom is accessed via the roof and though it was safe my 9yo wasn't comfortable sleeping there by himself - better suited for adult(s) traveling together but requiring personal space.

About the host
Hosted by Moulay Omar Bahaj
In March of 2013, Lisa and I traveled to Morocco for the first time. That trip introduced us to the azure Moroccan sky, the shrill cry of “balak” (look out) from donkey drivers in the alleyways of the medina in Fez, the taste of sweet mint tea - poured by hospitable merchants, anxious to make a sale, and the cool touch of polished tiles (zellij), in souk after noisy souk in the centuries old medina of Marrakech.
Our knowledge of the history and culture of Maroc was enriched on that trip by our private guide – Moulay Omar Bahaj. Omar shepherded us north, south, east, and west, but he shared more than his tourism expertise with us; he shared his personal story, his intellectual curiosity, and his menschlichkeit—his sense of humanity. We met his wife Nora, and their two children. We enjoyed a delicious chicken tajine at their home, and before we knew it, we were becoming friends, oblivious to the years, geography, and religious beliefs that separated us. A decade-long friendship has grown out of that meal, and Lisa and I have returned to Morocco several times since then. During each trip, we deepened our appreciation for the colors, sounds, and magic of Morocco, and the emotional ties to Omar and Nora.
Over the years, we dreamed together of opening a Riad (a traditional Moroccan home with a central courtyard) in the heart of the medina in Marrakech. We imagined it would be a comfortable space, where guests might get a taste of the vibrant history and culture of Morocco. Dar Beit Zellij is the realization of that dream. We invite you to come and receive the gracious hospitality that Moroccans are known for. You’ll find our listing on AirBnB, TripAdvisor, and VRBO. If you have any questions, DM me or Lisa.
The Riad is well located, only minutes away from all the major cultural and historical sites, such as the Bahia Palace, Djemma al Fna, el Badi Palace, the Mellah, and, of course, the bustling souks.
What makes this property unique
The Riad sparkles with traditional Moroccan tiles, hand-carved Gebs plasterwork, Berber and African art, and a sunlit courtyard with Bougainvillea creeping up the wall toward the gorgeous Moroccan sky above.
