This was a beautiful property located near a launch off on the Jackson river and walking distance to the Jackson river scenic trail. Along with only being a few minutes from Lake Moomaw, this was the perfect place to have fun with the wife and kids

Thank you so much for your stay, and your thoughtful review! We hope you can come again!
We had a wonderful trip to the mountains. The property was clean and beautiful. It was exactly as pictured in the Vrbo app. We are looking forward to another visit soon.
The "Barn" was clearly renovated fairly recently as everything looks very clean and new inside and out. Internet connection was solid to stream HD from the nice TVs, furniture and beds were comfy, and the kitchen was well appointed. The reason to stay is the location: the view form the porch is a grassy field terminating on a small wooded hill with birds everywhere and even a few deer. The porch would have been worth the whole stay, but the location is also a very short walk from the Jackson river which has a very long rails-to-trail for biking or very easy walking. There are a few waterfalls a short drive away as well as the lake. The water is well water and has a sulfur smell and the shower stall was less fancy than the rest of the place, but this was only notable because everything else was fantastic. I would not hesitate to come back here again with family and friends.
My husband and I along with my sister and her husband stayed in this charming home last weekend. I instantly fell in love with this place. The home has been beautifully crafted on the inside and outside. It’s in a rural location and has so many things to offer if you like mountains, rivers and wildlife. We rode our bikes on the trail by the Jackson River and enjoyed every second of the beautiful scenery. We did run into some evidence of bears and saw plenty of deer. We visited the nearby Lake Moomaw and saw two bald eagles.
The home was extremely clean and we had everything we could ask for. The beds are very comfy and we slept well after days full of nature and activity. I love this place and hope to come for a longer stay in the summer. The check in process was a breeze.

The host was not responsive and did not send me check in info until 9:30pm. The house was cute and fun but there was a ton of ants and they got into our food and ruined some of it. I reached out about the ants and got no response. Very disappointed in the lack of communication. Would not stay here again.

I appreciate the feedback about your concerns, which I am taking to heart and doing my best to resolve. I understand that lack of timely information and response must have been frustrating and disappointing. I am reaching out to explain that my unavailability was an extremely unusual circumstance and to offer apology for failing to serve you in the exemplary way that I strive to serve all of our guests. My lack of timely communication resulted from technical issues with my cell phone due to being in the middle of cell service provider transfer, in combination with my being out of town visiting family, out of routine and time zone. I know none of this changes your personal experience, but I want to assure you and future guests that I have been hosting on VRBO and Airbnb for 2 years and am proud to be consistently rated for great communication and ease of check in, which can be verified by taking a moment to look over my reviews on VRBO as well as on other platforms where we get bookings for the River Barn. I will continue to do my best and plan to take precautions when navigating unusual circumstances that may affect my hosting abilities in the future. I sincerely regret that I failed to serve you satisfactorily.
Concerning the ants, I am so sorry they ruined some of your food! They have moved in suddenly and unexpectedly before, but it is difficult to foresee when/if that will happen. We put fresh traps and bait out which solved the problem in the past, but we also added a labeled plastic food storage tub in the pantry for use in any future invasions!
Thank you again for your stay. I hope you will consider coming again and giving us the opportunity to change your opinion.
I have West Virginia roots and have always loved the mountains, and being outdoors. We love our mountain homestead, but also enjoy a little adventure to add spice to our family life. As a child I loved all the various forms of water, and swimming, boating, and sunsets on the beach still spark joy and inspiration for me. We decided to start hosting as a way to fulfill our wish for a home away from home, one that gives the opportunity for beautiful and inspiring experiences to our family, friends, and guests.
Why they chose this property
My family fell in love with this area because of all it has to offer. We have kids from toddler to teen, and there's something here for everyone. A day at Lake Moomaw is always a wonderful day for us, whether on the beach, on the boat, enjoying watersports or paddling the canoe. And there's always more to explore: strolling another stretch of the scenic trail, floating another stretch of the Jackson. What do you want to do today? Check out Falling Springs Waterfall, go soak in the historical baths, walk the grounds at the Homestead, or enjoy one of their sumptuous buffets? Drive into Hot Springs and see if the brewery is open tonight, or down to Covington to the movie theater with recliners, or to Garth Newel for a top notch musical performance? We just don't get tired of it!
What makes this property unique
Near a plethora of attractions and right off a small paved road, the property is easy to access but provides a sense of seclusion, being bordered by national forest. Cleared fields give a feeling of expansion, and the sounds of the nearby river, a feeling of tranquility. Beautiful red cedar and custom woodwork lends this newly renovated barn a touch of magic that blends old world beauty with modern comforts.
