Peaceful Mountain Retreat: Private Creek, Fireflies & Family Fun
Wake up to birdsong, sip coffee on the covered porch while listening to the creek, and watch deer wander through the woods. Holler Hall is a peaceful mountain retreat on 10 private wooded acres just minutes from downtown Sparta, North Carolina.
This is the kind of place where kids spend the day exploring, evenings end around the fire pit, and nights are quiet enough to hear the creek from the porch.
If your ideal vacation is slowing down, reconnecting with family, and enjoying nature instead of crowds, you’ll feel right at home here.
Why Guests Love Holler Hall
• 10 private wooded acres to explore • Private mountain creek with picnic shelter • Covered porch overlooking the creek • Fire pit, tree swings, and outdoor seating • Family-friendly layout with separate upstairs and downstairs living spaces • Game room with shuffleboard, puzzles, and movies • Fully equipped kitchen for family meals • Minutes from downtown Sparta while feeling completely secluded
Guests often tell us they come for the mountains but remember the quiet.
You’ll likely see deer grazing in the yard, hummingbirds around the porch, fireflies lighting up summer evenings, and the occasional great blue heron along the creek.

A Mountain Home, Not a Resort
Holler Hall is an older mountain home surrounded by nature—not a luxury resort.
If you appreciate peaceful surroundings, wildlife, fresh mountain air, and the character of a well-loved family retreat, you’ll likely love your stay.
If you’re looking for a brand-new luxury cabin with hotel-style amenities, another property may be a better fit.

Explore Your Own Private Mountain Property
One of Holler Hall’s most unique features is the land itself.
The Creek
A gentle mountain creek flows through the property approximately 150 feet from the house and is visible from the covered porch.
Spend the afternoon skipping rocks, wading, reading beside the water, or simply listening to the sounds of the creek.
Many guests tell us the creek is even closer to the house than they expected from the photos.
Creekside Picnic Shelter
Enjoy breakfast by the water, an afternoon picnic, evening conversation, or simply a quiet place to read while the kids explore.
Tree Swings
Several tree swings provide hours of entertainment for younger guests.
Private Mountain Trail
A private trail climbs the mountain behind the house to a quiet overlook featuring a picnic table, glider bench, and beautiful mountain views.
Nature is one of Holler Hall’s greatest attractions.
Depending on the season you may see:
• Deer • Wild turkeys • Hummingbirds • Goldfinches • Great blue herons • Fireflies • Beautiful fall foliage
The sounds of birds, the creek, and the breeze through the trees often replace the noise of everyday life.
⸻
Explore the Area
Although Holler Hall feels wonderfully secluded, you’re only minutes from:
• Downtown Sparta • The New River for tubing, kayaking, and fishing • The Blue Ridge Parkway • Stone Mountain State Park • Grayson Highlands State Park (home of the wild ponies) • Scenic drives, festivals, wineries, and local farms
It’s the perfect basecamp for exploring the High Country.
⸻
Mountain Home Comfort
Holler Hall is an older mountain home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Like many homes in the area, it uses a mini-split heating and cooling system rather than central HVAC.
For the best comfort during warmer weather, we recommend keeping exterior doors and windows closed while the system is running. We’ve recently serviced the cooling system and added cellular shades to the sunniest windows to help keep the home comfortable throughout the summer.
During the small number of days each year with unusually extreme mountain weather, indoor temperatures may vary more than they would in a newer home with central HVAC.

About the host
Hosted by drew grim
Hi, we’re Drew and Lacey — a farm-based family in North Carolina who loves good food, quiet mornings, and welcoming people to the mountains. We run a small family farm and a historic schoolhouse property in the Piedmont, and Holler Hall is our peaceful getaway spot that we feel grateful to share with others.
We love hosting because we know how special it is to step away from the noise of everyday life and settle into a place where the creek is the loudest thing you hear. When we’re not hosting, you’ll usually find us caring for our animals, hiking with our kids, teaching homesteading and pasture workshops, or cooking big meals with local ingredients.
Our hope is that your time at Holler Hall gives you the same sense of rest, fresh air, and togetherness that it gives our family. We’re nearby if you need anything, always happy to help, and we love seeing guests return year after year.
We’re honored to host you and hope you enjoy the mountains as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
We chose this spot because it feels like its own little world — peaceful, private, and tucked along a beautiful creek — yet close enough to Sparta that you can enjoy the restaurants, shops, and local charm whenever you want. It’s the best of both worlds: a quiet mountain retreat that doesn’t leave you feeling isolated.
This hollow has a special kind of calm to it. The sound of the creek carries through the trees, deer wander the edges of the yard, and the stars are bright at night. Mornings here feel slow and gentle. Evenings feel like they’re made for porch sitting, listening to the water, and watching the sky turn pink over the ridge.
We love that this neighborhood gives families and couples a chance to truly unwind without giving up convenience. You’re minutes from downtown Sparta, the New River, hiking trails, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and beautiful scenic drives. There’s so much to explore — from lavender farms and fiddlers conventions to local coffee shops, great dining, and mountain festivals — but you always get to come home to peace, privacy, and the steady sound of the creek.
What we enjoy most is the simplicity of this place. Kids can play in the yard and explore the nature trail while adults relax on the porch or sit by the water. Neighbors are friendly but respectful of privacy. And every season brings something new — fireflies in summer, changing leaves in fall, quiet snowy mornings, and crisp mountain air year-round.
We chose this neighborhood because it feels like the kind of place where people can breathe, reconnect, and slow down. And we’ve loved being able to share that feeling with the guests who come to stay at Holler Hall.
What makes this property unique
Holler Hall stands out because it offers an experience that’s hard to find in the North Carolina mountains: a peaceful cabin with true privacy, direct creek access, kid-friendly features, and your own private nature trail, all on the same property.
Most cabins are tucked close to neighbors, perched above steep drops, or require a long, winding drive. Holler Hall is different. The home sits gently beside a wide, open yard where kids can safely run and play, just steps from the creek. You can sit on the porch and still hear the water flowing — not far off in the distance, but right there on your property. It’s close enough for children to explore while adults relax nearby, something guests consistently tell us they love.
Another feature you won’t find at most rentals is the mountain-top trail that belongs entirely to the property. It winds from the yard up through the woods to a quiet ridge with long-range views, a picnic table, and a glider. Guests tell us this becomes a favorite ritual — coffee up top, a sunset walk, or a quiet moment to unwind away from everything.
Inside, the cabin offers a layout that works beautifully for both families and couples. The upstairs living area is bright and open, while the downstairs lounge gives kids and adults separate spaces when they want them. The painted shuffleboard court on the lower level is a rare and memorable touch — simple, fun, and part of the charm that makes the house feel lived-in and welcoming.
What truly makes Holler Hall unique, though, is the atmosphere. The combination of the creek, the privacy, the wildlife, the thoughtful touches, and the overall sense of calm creates a stay that feels deeper than “just a place to sleep.” Many guests describe it as restful, grounding, or even healing.
This isn’t a themed rental or a generic mountain cabin. It’s a place with personality and heart — a property that invites you to slow down, explore, breathe, and make memories you’ll carry with you long after you leave.
