About this property
PS HiddenFrey: Architecture, History in Iconic Mid-Century Frey Mini-Estate
Your next Palm Springs vacation begins at this rare gem of architectural and local history. PS Hidden Frey debuted as the Feature Home for Modernism Week 2018 and was a centerpiece of the festival’s celebration of architect Albert Frey’s Desert Modernism. One of only a handful of private residences in Palm Springs designed by Frey, the mid-century home offers privacy, history and style.
Sunken beneath street level and surrounded by a high hedge, this gated home is a mini-estate: hidden from view and offering a full-size tennis court, a gorgeous raised saltwater pool and spa deck and casual outdoor lounging and dining spaces. The tennis court and raised pool deck encompasses the North side of the property. The main house holds two en-suite bedrooms plus an additional guest bathroom, a well-appointed kitchen, and an open living and dining area. The separate en-suite casita next to the main house is perfect for those members of your party with kids, or those who desire additional privacy.
As you drive through the front gates and down the driveway, the property opens up to your left as you pass the glass walls of the raised pool deck – a signature of Albert Frey’s work. Walking under the covered BBQ/ cantilevered carport area, the first set of sliders on your right lead into the casita.
The guest casita has its own bathroom with step-in shower, a separate lounging room with mini fridge and cabinets, and a large bedroom with a King-size bed, 4K UHD Smart TV with YouTube TV live television, and a full array of your favorite streaming apps. The casita living room and bedroom both look out to views of the tennis court and pool. The casita living room offers a sleeper sofa opening to a queen bed. We'll be happy to supply you sheets with advance notice.
As you walk past the casita, you reach the double Fleetwood sliders that open to the main house’s living and dining area. The main house invites you with its open layout and stylishly appointed modern furnishings that complement the home’s mid-century origins. The marble indoor dining table seats up to six with direct views to the court and pool. The well-appointed kitchen features a breakfast bar with seating for three more, stainless appliances, and beautiful cabinetry. The living room has plenty of seating, a gas fireplace, bar cabinet, and a large 4K OLED UHD Smart TV with YouTube TV live television, and a full array of your favorite streaming apps and a Sonos sound bar.
Off the living area to the East side of the home, the main master bedroom has sliders leading out to its own private breeze-block wrapped patio. The bedroom offers a King-sized bed, large en-suite bath with step-in shower, and another 4K UHD Smart TV with YouTube TV live television, Sonos sound bar and your favorite streaming apps.
Off the living area to the West side of the home, you will walk down a hallway where you will find the home’s washer and dryer, linen closets and additional full guest bathroom, before you arrive at the second master bedroom. This en-suite bedroom offers a King size bed, a desk and another 4K UHD Smart TV, and a full array of your favorite streaming apps. This guest room boasts its own separate entrance through another Fleetwood slider with commanding views of the tennis court.
PS Hidden Frey has been published extensively since its 2018 Modernism Review. Search “Hidden Frey” for more information on this iconic home.
PS Hidden Frey is located in Racquet Club West (adjacent to Racquet Club Estates), a small enclave of homes at the beginning of the Uptown Design District. The area is rich in mid-century design and history; just a few blocks and quick drive from all the action of Downtown Palm Springs. It should be noted the city has sound ordinances that are strictly enforced. The owner(s) like to stress this home is ideal for a dream vacation and relaxation but is by no means a “party-central” home. Each guest is expected to be as good a neighbor as the owner(s) themselves. Special events like weddings are NOT allowed.
