About this property

Elevated Ocean view of Harbor, walk to village, pet friendly, deck, wifi and AC.

Locally owned by an Island family of several generations, Osprey Nest is the 2nd story apartment of a duplex with private deck. Located on an elevated property across the marina, offering wonderful views of Southwest Harbor and across to the Cranberry Isles. Walk into town and enjoy shopping & dining in the village of Southwest Harbor and leaving your car behind.

Acadia National Park and more than a dozen trailheads are within a 5 min. drive from the house with a bus stop across the street.

Luke and Jackie are year round locals from an Island fishing family of over 100 years. We live next door and are more than happy to share our insites for hiking, biking, canoeing/kayaking, tours, and dining.

We are avid animal lovers and welcome well behaved and well mannered pets after discussing your pets with us ahead of time. We reserve the right to deny pets if necessary. We lost Maggie, or orginal Black Dog in '23, but our new little black girl Lucy lives next door with us now. If you can't bring your pets and want a visit, I'm sure Lucy can schedule some time into her busy schedule for you to throw the ball for her. We also have a little "bobcat" named Lily that likes to perform acrobatics on various hand rails across the property.

Luke and Jackie met in Bar Harbor in March of 2009 and got married in July of 2013. Luke had just got home from 3 months at sea and was going out with some friends for a drink. Jackie saw the first new man she had seen all winter and claimed him immediately. You know.... storybook love story at a pub on a Maine island in winter!

Luke and his family have been on MDI and have fished the waters for generations. Luke was a Merchant Marine Engineer for several years sailing large ships all over the world until he met Jackie and came home from sea. He is now an engineer at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor and helps run the utility plant there.

Jackie is originally from Downeast Maine but has been in the MDI area for over 20 years. She has worked in several restaurants in the area and can give you excellent suggestions for varying types of cuisine and wine. She is now a dental hygentist and practices in Town Hill/Bar Harbor.

Luke and Jackie love to hike all over MDI with their black lab, Lucy and son Cole. They will be happy to give advise of what to do while you're here and where to go.

Why they chose this property

Luke and Jackie have been looking to move back onto MDI for 2 years and finally found this amazing property which they both (miraculously) liked! All the amenities of living in town while having an amazing view of Southwest Harbor and shorter commutes to work is all it took for them to make the easy decision to buy this house. Since it was just the 2 of us originally, we decided to share the property with all the visitors that enjoy their Island as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

Osprey Nest was our home for the first 7 years we were back in Southwest Harbor while Breakwater downstairs was a rental. We welcomed our son into the world while living up here and have many fond memories with family and friends, we hope you all do as well!

The sunrise over Islesford and Great Cranberry Island from bedroom #3 (or the deck) is amazing! If you're not a morning person, you can at least set your alarm, open the shades, enjoy the view, and go back to bed!

The elevated deck, 20ft above the parking area is by far the spot where most folks spend their time. The deck is sunny with a full southern exposure, all while overlooking Southwest Harbor. The built in bartop on the railing is a great place to enjoy a meal prepared on the Weber grill and overlook the marina. After supper, start the outdoor fireplace and relax while the sun goes down.

We have all the advantages of all the other Main street property with a sidewalk going right into town so you can park you car and walk to the market, pub, restaurant, or playground. However, we are a B lot so we have buffer from the road to dampen any traffic noise and not worrying about the kids or the dog being too close to the road. Being on the side of a hill we still have a great view without our front neighbors obstructing the Harbor.
