About this property

Palm 22 - Beachfront Cottage with Spectacular Views/Beach

Palm 22 Main Beach Cottage Description

This charming beachfront cottage was designed with family and group activities in mind. The layout provides ample space for large family gatherings while also offering multiple areas for children to play and adults to relax. A large portion of the first floor faces the beach and features an open design where the kitchen, dining area, and family room flow together to create a spacious great room. The first floor also includes a bedroom, a full bathroom with a shower, and a separate laundry area for added convenience.

An extra-wide staircase leading to the second floor has handrails positioned at two different heights for the safety and convenience of both adults and small children.

A fun atmosphere continues on the second floor. Children enjoy playing on the swing, the wall-to-wall suspended netting, and the rope ladder. The second floor also includes a master bedroom and a bunkroom, each opening onto a balcony deck with incredible views of the ocean. Both bedrooms have private bathrooms with double pedestal sinks and deep soaking tubs. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, while the bunkroom has two sets of built-in bunk beds. Also on the second floor are two semi-private sleeping areas—one with two twin beds and the other with a single twin bed.

Much of the furniture in the cottage was handcrafted from salvaged materials recovered from local shipwrecks. The artwork throughout the cottage was created by Michael Cashmore Hingley, whose work is featured on numerous buildings throughout Spanish Wells.

The cottage is equipped with the amenities needed for a comfortable stay, including high-speed wireless internet, cable television, flat-screen TVs, a washer and dryer, microwave, dishwasher, stove, oven, refrigerator with ice and water dispenser, and six-zone climate control for comfort throughout the cottage.

Comfort and convenience continue in the outdoor living areas. The covered ocean-side deck runs the entire width of the cottage and features Adirondack chairs and indirect lighting, making it a perfect place for nighttime viewing of passing cruise ships and stargazing. Steps from the ocean-side deck lead to an outdoor shower on the side of the cottage. This is a popular first stop for guests returning from the beach, providing a convenient place to rinse off with hot and cold water.

The covered porch on the inland side also runs the entire width of the cottage. A barbecue grill is located on this porch, conveniently close to the kitchen and protected from the elements, so an afternoon shower will not interrupt dinner preparations. The adjacent lower-level deck provides a comfortable, protected alternative when the wind is blowing strongly from the north or east.

The property opens onto a spectacular sandy beach with crystal-clear, shallow, warm water. The beach is protected by beautiful barrier coral reefs that help moderate large waves and provide generally calm water. The warm water provides endless opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and simply enjoying the beach. A fish-cleaning table with running water is located near the water's edge, making it convenient to clean fish caught during your stay. For those who simply want to relax, a hammock shaded by palm trees and cooled by ocean breezes provides the perfect place to unwind.

Situated on 12th Street, the cottage is ideally located within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, churches, and grocery stores.

Our local caretaker, Johnny Underwood, is available to help make your arrival and stay as convenient as possible. He can assist with airport transportation, meet you when you arrive on Spanish Wells, help familiarize you with the cottage and the island, and address any issues that may arise during your stay. Johnny rents golf carts and boats, and when you arrive by ferry, he will meet you at the dock with your reserved golf cart(s), making it easy to get settled and begin enjoying your vacation.

Optional Guest Cottage

A recently added guest cottage on the property is available for rent in conjunction with the main beach cottage. This nicely appointed two-level guest cottage offers an additional bedroom with a king-size bed and two bathrooms—one with an indoor shower and the other with a private outdoor shower.

The guest cottage also includes a kitchen, dining area, and living room, making it an ideal option for grandparents, aunts, uncles, or friends traveling with your family. The guest cottage is for adults only and has a maximum occupancy of two guests.

The nightly charge for the guest cottage is $150 per night, plus a $150 cleaning fee. The guest cottage is only available to guests renting the main beach cottage. Please contact the owner (Joe) with any questions about the cottages. 202-437-5499

Family man with a beautiful wife and 3 wonderful children, avid outdoors man, loving anything to do with water, 30+ years in the technology field in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US.

Picture above was taken in Spanish Wells in 2010. I was holding dinner for 5.

Why they chose this property

A long time friend invited me and my family to stay at his beach house in Spanish Wells. We went in April, 2010 and had a wonderful time snorkeling, fishing, beachcombing, building sand castles, riding bikes, watching the sunset, having ice cream, grilling what we caught spear fishing and relaxing. It was incredible and my kids still tell others that it was the BEST vacation ever. I've challenged them on their declaration but they say the trip to Spanish Wells was better than the Atlantis, Disney World, Caribbean Cruises and all of our beach trips on the east coast.
I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth! As a family we were not in a rush to get to nor distracted by any of the commercial offerings that are typical of vacation destinations. Spanish Wells is not commercialized at all; rather it is beautiful, safe, and the islanders are very accommodating.
I too enjoyed this vacation immensely so I spent the last day of our vacation looking at real estate. When my friend learned that I was interested in buying a place on the island he offered me part ownership of the beach house. We have closed the deal and are now offering a limited number of rentals to help offset expenses.
