Private Island - Soulfully Peaceful Access to Nature & Wildlife Watching

Located on a private island within the gates of the Colleton River Club*, this cottage sits on one of the prettiest, most unique sites in the Hilton Head area. The 'Devil's Elbow Cottage' is nestled among ancient Live Oak trees overlooking the marshes and waters of the Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge.
Enjoy the best of both worlds. Experience the Lowcountry Bluffton / Hilton Head region of years past yet be a short drive from all of the shopping and amenities of one of the world's foremost resort areas.

This very comfortable cottage has high ceilings and large windows that create a light atmosphere and lets you enjoy this special setting. Built in 1992 and recently updated, this little house sits adjacent to the 'main' house. They are two of only three houses on the island.

Listen to the warblers in the oaks and the snapping shrimp in the marsh below as you doze off for your afternoon nap on the screened porch. Set the crab trap from the dock or cast a net for shrimp and enjoy the seafood bounty of the Lowcountry. Sight fish for Redfish from a kayak on the flats of the adjacent islands. If the natural world gets to be too much for you it is a ten minute drive to highway 278 and all of the shopping, dining, golf and beaches you could desire. Visit the galleries of Bluffton's old town. Take the beautiful drive to Charleston or spend a day in Savannah or Beaufort.

*Colleton River Club is a private community and the amenities are for the use of members and their guests only.

Paradise

My husband and I have been coming here for 4 years, we come here to just enjoy the quietness and tranquility. We do some fishing off the dock, we have seen dolphins swim by, caught a few shark, saw armadillo, deer, crocodile. Great trip! Owners, Peter and Leisa great! Thanks for sharing!

Natural Paradise

Return stay at one of the most amazingly pristine paradises anywhere. Spectacular natural setting. Dirt road to the private island leaves civilization far behind, leaving only sights and sounds of nature.

Amazing nature setting

This was perhaps the most amazing rental house we have stayed at. Unbelievably beautiful setting on a private island with endless marsh views. Well laid out house to take advantage of the nature landscape. Perfect hosts. I am so happy to have been able to share their slice of paradise.

Beautiful & Peaceful!

The cottage was perfect for our family of four. Spectacular views of the marsh, access to fishing and plenty of opportunities for walking, biking and exploring the surrounding property. The cottage had everything we needed and the screened in porch was amazing. Peter provided lots of great information about the surrounding area. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful, serene, natural setting

This VRBO is exactly as advertised. The home is lovely and set-up perfectly for a family, couples, or small group of friends. The location within Bluffton is great - everything is accessible, and Hilton Head Island isn't far either. The best thing about this rental is the setting - you're in the marsh, near a river, and birds and other wildlife abound. My kids and I loved every minute of this vacation and 100% will rent this place again!

Quiet getaway

Great place to relax and do nothing, which is what we wanted. Place is clean and well maintained. Never did find the dock so if you’re interested in that then ask owner for directions. He is very responsive as he took care of a broken coffee pot right away.

Peaceful & Charming

We had a wonderful stay at Peter's charming cottage! We especially loved the views from the large windows, the spacious screened in porch and sunsets on the dock. This is truly a peaceful & secluded retreat. The cottage matched the description perfectly and was conveniently located just a short drive from shops, restaurants, and the beach. Peter was very responsive and shared great recommendations for exploring the surrounding areas. Unique and relaxing property

Loved being able to leave the rush behind and escape to this property! We used the provided cooler daily on our excursions and when we returned enjoyed quiet peaceful walks. Hosts were always prompt with replies to our questions. The screened porch was a favorite spot to listen to the birds and marsh life, a great experience!

Serene Escape

This was my second stay at this fabulous property. This is a peaceful gem. What a treat to sit on the lovely porch and watch the wildlife and the marsh.
