The area and home are very special...wonderful!!! I would have given 5 stars but the ladybug infestation was hard to get past. They were on the floor, ceiling, countertops, and walls. They fell on us during the night and would end up on or in our drinks. As soon as that is solved, this is a perfect stay to get away for the weekend and enjoy wildlife.
We had a great time at the Refuge! Everything was seamless and the attention to the delightful details make the house and grounds so sweet. Great fireplaces in and out, as well as tub, loft, hosts and area. We were able to canoe, and walk many beautiful trails, as well as take in local cafes and music. We’ll be back-thank you!
lovely setting, lovely home, well furnished, set on a hillside with phenomenal views, super quiet, pastoral, complete with beautiful idyllic Zen gardens.
We had a lovely, peaceful stay here. The house is clean, uncluttered, and open-feeling, and the view outside is beautiful. There were small luxurious touches throughout that made this place feel loved. The location was perfect for river trips on the Kickapoo.
The property is beautiful and had everything we needed. Located in the heart of the Kickapoo Valley on a hillside, the panorama of views from every window and the numerous outside seating areas was breathtaking. My wife loved the large soaking tub and I loved the proximity of fantastic trout fishing. The house was impeccably clean and the outside was beautifully maintained.
Our stay at Place of Peace was as described, very peaceful. The house was clean, stocked well with things you need. Really appreciated the pack and play and beautiful flowers. If you are looking for the perfect place, this is your place! We will be back!
Wonderful accommodations. My husband and I stayed. Quiet, beautiful views, and close to Hillsboro. Well stocked kitchen, full size appliances, and the bath is beautiful.
The house was very nice, and was as advertised. Some of the amenities fell a little short. The cooking oils were pretty much empty (we ended up buying our own), some of the cookware was either dusty or dirty, the clicker for the fire was not working (but they did have matches) and there were a lot of lady bugs in the house (don't think that could be helped much since it's the fall). But overall it was quite pleasant. My wife and I enjoyed our time there and would not mind staying there again.
Staying at this lovely home helped make a wonderful weekend experience in the Driftless. The home was well decorated and offered tranquility and comforting energy. The beautiful wildflowers and property were a perfect place to catch our breath. We will definitely be back.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! You are most welcome back any time.
Artist Retreat was as listed.
Beautiful location, well stocked with everything needed. Fall colors were great. We were too late in the year for the flowers and plantings but it would be beautiful in Spring and Summer. Recommend for Seniors: nice access to the upstairs bedroom. Easy staircase up with easy access to deck. We enjoyed our stay!
Not what we expected — disappointing stay. This property was a letdown. The home was infested with ladybugs and their nests, and dust covered nearly every surface. Bedsheets had suspicious red stains, and the children's beds were oddly placed inside a wardrobe — right next to more ladybug nests. They were frightened. Caterpillars on carpets too. While the location and outdoor space are lovely, the indoor conditions were shocking. To make matters worse, you're monitored by a camera with a microphone every time you enter. Be mindful of your privacy.

About the host
Hosted by Tatiana Berindei
I grew up on the East Coast and have recently found my way to the midwest to be close to my husband's family.
We were hosts before, and love creating beautiful and welcoming spaces for people to experience the magic and beauty of nature - in comfortable, beautiful and updated accommodations.
Why they chose this property
The views, the views, the views! You'll see what I mean when you get there. The photos hardly do it justice. This place is just spectacular and beautifully quiet.
I love being in nature and in the quiet. And I love that there is so much organic farming in the area! Sustainability and organic crop maintenance are really important to us, as well as vibrant community, so this just felt like the perfect area for our second home. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
What makes this property unique
This property was built with sustainability in mind, and was designed by an artist. The place is small, but filled with light so it never feels cramped. There are unique touches all throughout - from the painted concrete floor and live edge sink platform in the bathroom, to the tiles laid in between the stairs. I'm an especially big fan of the bathtub :)
