About this property
Loon's Nest: Lakefront Boutique Cabin on Leech Lake with Private Dock & Lift
THE CABIN 1 bedroom (queen) | 1.5 baths | Sleeps up to 3 (queen bed + full pullout sofa) Custom knotty wood ceilings, warm finishes, a full kitchen with a large island and bar seating, and a whole-home water filtration system. Every detail was chosen intentionally — this is a cabin someone built to be proud of. Free WiFi throughout.
THE OUTDOORS Two private decks face Leech Lake. Morning coffee with the sunrise on the upper deck. Golden hour on the lower one. Loon calls across the water. The Whipholt area is one of Minnesota's best spots for Northern Lights on clear nights — worth staying up for. Whipholt public beach is a short walk down the road.
THE DOCK Your private dock and boat lift are steps from the front door. Bringing your boat? Just give us a heads-up when you book so we can have everything coordinated for your arrival — we want you on the water first thing.
WHO LOON'S NEST IS GREAT FOR Loon's Nest tends to attract guests who are celebrating something — or who just need the lake to hit the reset button: • Couples marking a honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday who want somewhere intimate, beautiful, and genuinely memorable • Anyone who wants a special occasion to feel special — not a hotel, not a resort, but a place that's actually theirs for a few days • Anglers who want a private dock, a boat lift, and Leech Lake walleye out the front door • Concert weekenders coming up for Moondance Jam or Country Fest who want something with character over a campsite • Winter adventurers here for ice fishing, snowmobiling, or a quiet frozen lake under the Northern Lights • Cyclists riding the Heartland or Paul Bunyan State Trails — two of the longest paved trails in Minnesota with Walker right at the center • Solo travelers who need a full reset - Loon's Nest has a way of slowing everything down and centering you.
WINTER FUN AT THE CABIN Don't sleep on an off-season trip. Leech Lake ice fishing is genuinely world-class, and the area around Walker is one of the best snowmobile destinations in the state. The Heartland State Trail runs right through Walker and connects to hundreds of miles of groomed trails. The cabin is warm, the fireplace is ready, and you'll likely have the lake mostly to yourself. Some guests say the winter trips end up being their favorite.
FOOD AND DRINK (11 Miles to Walker) The Walker dining scene punches well above its size for a small northern Minnesota town: • Green Scene Market and Eatery - fire-roasted pizza, craft cocktails, and Minnesota-made spirits and beers; one of the most beloved spots in the area • The Boulders - consistently top-rated fine dining with a casual come-as-you-are vibe; the local choice for a special night out • The 502 - award-winning Black Angus prime rib and wild rice bread with tables facing Walker Bay • Charlie's Up North and Boat Bar - steaks, live music, open every day; snowmobile trail runs right to the back door in winter • Shingobee on the Bay - waterfront bar and restaurant right on the lake • Bayside Bar and Grill, Benson's, Jimmy's Family Restaurant - beloved local casual spots • Portage Brewing Company - local craft brewery in the heart of downtown Walker • Forestedge Winery - charming winery with nature trails, local art, and fruit wines worth the short drive
FISHING EVENTS - Book Early As These Typically Fill Up Fast Leech Lake is one of Minnesota's premier fishing destinations and tournament waters. If your trip lines up with any of these, you're in for something special: • Minnesota Fishing Opener - May 11 annually; the biggest walleye weekend of the year • Leech Lake Walleye Tournament - May 30 and 31; a 25+ year tradition drawing anglers from across the region • Minnesota Tournament Trail at Leech Lake - July 11 through September 19 • 2026 Strike King Bassmaster College Championship - August 20 to 22; the first-ever national college bass championship on Leech Lake
EVENTS AND FESTIVALS The Whipholt/Walker area has a surprisingly packed calendar all summer long: • Walker's Old Fashioned 4th of July - downtown parade, park party, and fireworks over Walker Bay • Moondance Jam - classic rock festival, July 16 to 19, just 6 miles away; one of the Midwest's premier outdoor music weekends • Moondance Jammin Country Fest - late June annually at the same venue • Walker Bay Live - free outdoor live music every Thursday, mid-June through August • Green Scene Farmers Market - every Thursday, June through September
TRAILS AND OUTDOOR RECREATION (All Seasons) • Heartland State Trail - 49-mile paved multi-use trail connecting Park Rapids to Cass Lake; biking, hiking, snowmobiling, and horseback riding with Walker as the central hub • Paul Bunyan State Trail - the longest paved trail in Minnesota at 120 miles, running directly into Walker; a bucket-list ride for cyclists • Shingobee Recreation Area - mountain biking and hiking in the Chippewa National Forest, 6 miles south • Chippewa National Forest - ATV trails, the North Country National Scenic Trail, and hundreds of miles of backcountry • Itasca State Park - about 35 miles away; home to the Mississippi River headwaters; iconic Minnesota day trip
QUICK DISTANCES Walk to Whipholt public beach • Under 1 mile to public boat landing • 11 miles to downtown Walker (dining, shopping, brewery) • 6 miles to Moondance Events venue • 9 miles to Northern Lights Casino • About 35 miles to Itasca State Park and Mississippi River Headwaters

So glad that you enjoyed the dining options. From formal dining at Boulders to exceptional pizza at Benson’s … and all in between… the food is delicious!
Beautiful cabin on Leech Lake! Everything was beautifully updated, clean and well maintained. It was wonderful to watch the sunset from the porch or through the wall of windows from the cabin. So many cute places to relax and enjoy the lake life!
We loved everything about this home. It’s beautifully decorated, very comfortable, the views are amazing and it had everything we needed. We hated to leave!

Mary, you were a fantastic guest. Please consider rebooking! I would love to host your group again.
We had the nice time to get away from our busy schedule. Had fun ice fishing, outdoor sites, and site seeing the town. We enjoy the quaint home for just us to recharge, reconnect, and we surrounded by nature.
Only thing different from description pictures was no TV in bedroom. We had a very relaxing week on the lake. We showed up during a tough bite but still managed to coax a couple fish. Even got some tips from our host. Overall excellent vacation spot and we plan on coming back.
