Excellent location, beautifully finished, all the amenities anyone could need and a wonderful host to top it off!!! Thanks so much Ron for making this a really memorable trip for us all!
We had a wonderful stay at Cunard House. What an awesome location. Pictou is a beautiful town. It’s picturesque, the people are so friendly, and the food is good. We could not have asked for better hosts. Hope to visit again.
Well maintained and beautiful. Had the best time sitting on front porch looking at the ocean talking to everyone as they walked by. Our host Ron was wonderful. A fountain of local information. Would go back again in a heartbeat.
This was our second visit. We love the location of the property as it is the perfect base to explore the area. There is so much to do and keep you busy and we would be very happy to return again in the future. Thanks Ron
Everything was great from check in to check out! I loved sitting on the front steps with a coffee in the morning! Absolutely quieter area than you expect!
We were very impressed with our accommodations, the location was perfect. There was road construction but that didn’t affect our experience. We both absolutely loved it there and we hope we are welcome back again!!
Thank you for everything, you made our holiday even more enjoyable!!
Really enjoyed our week stay in Pictou, thanks for sharing your lovely heritage home with us…. Perfect location for walking and restaurants and the view from the front porch! We would stay again if ever back!

Comfortable space in a great location. Beautiful views across the water from the lovely verandah. Can walk anywhere in town but lots of lovely places to drive close by. The Hector 250 celebrations were on and a great bonus. Glad the paper mill is closed!
The house rental had everything we needed for a 12 day stay, and the view from the front porch out onto the water was simply incredible. Air conditioning worked great as it was extremely hot outside during our entire stay, and Ron the host treated us extremely well and offered advice on local activities and things to do. Would definitely stay again if we were ever in the area!! Thanks Ron for a wonderful time and rental!!
We stayed in the Cunard House for two weeks in July and enjoyed every minute. You’re right on the waterfront here with restaurants, shopping, museums and walking trails all within walking distance of your front porch—where we enjoyed mornings sipping our coffee and watching the world go by. Ron and Ginny are great hosts and, after spending many years refurbishing—no shortage of electrical plugs here—the house is spacious, clean, comfortable and the wifi rocks! We’d definitely stay here again.
A character property. Historic to the neighbourhood. View was beautiful. Just what we needed to unwind. Clean & quiet. Property owner was very personable & helpful! I’d go back in an instant!
Cunard house is beautifully and mindfully furnished. We found many extras and plentiful supplies compared to previous experiences. In addition, the decor is tasteful and, in some instances, unique. The hosts are lovely folk, full of helpful suggestions for our exploration of Nova Scotia and environs. Their knowledge of local history is a huge plus. And the location and physical setting of this home are a joy to wake up and come home to; the gardens surrounding Cunard House are an added bonus. We recommend this property without hesitation.
Awesome front porch to watch the world go by or the rain come in!
Clean, clean, clean!
Very nice “ layout”, open floor plan, updated bathroom between two bedrooms, comfy beds, great kitchen to cook some meals in, enough utensils, pots and dishes), and comfy sofa and chairs. We felt right at home for our 12 day stay.
Great location for our explorations to Halifax, PEI, Cape Breton, and Digby.
Close to all things Pictou. Walkable.
Landlord was helpful and fully prepared to supply us with electricity in case of a power outage from the hurricane. Very comforting to know.
Overall great place and great owners.
It was a wonderful place to stay..very clean and everything we needed for a lovely holiday..It had a balcony to sit out on and watch the boats in the harbour. Little shops across the street sold very nice hand crafted gifts. I wish VRBO could make it easier for clients to contact the owner before arrival. The owner was very kind and personable and very good to deal with. We would certainly stay there again.
Ron was a great host. The home is historic and beautiful! The view is breathtaking! It was in a very central spot to travel from. We would definitely book again. Fantastic week! Thanks again
Lovely space on the water. Walking distance to all the shops and restaurants! Perfect spot to stay during a visit to this friendly town!

About the host
Hosted by Ron Arnold
A retired school principal and his teacher wife-and-former-sweetheart spent the last 8 years renovating this 1832 office building built by Samuel Cunard, the founder of Cunard Steamship Lines. Before that we worked in schools in three provinces, one territory and two countries.
Why they chose this property
One side of my family descended from Ship Hector settlers. We were looking for a retirement project in the Maritimes and this building needed some work, was located on the harbour and was empty. Kind of a no brainer!
What makes this property unique
Cunardhouse is a piece of classic Maritime architecture and turned out to be a piece of history as well. Looking onto the harbour on the second floor are three crooked windows that make it stand out in all the old photos of the waterfront. They present a unique 'face' and we think we know their story.
