The Bonaire Cottage~ Private Dock!!! ~ Rustic Fun Waterfront Cottage!!!
Relax and enjoy this great 2 bedroom, 1 bath waterfront cottage with a beautiful new dock in historic Cedar Key, Florida. Enjoy sitting on the dock drinking coffee and watching all the birds and fish jumping. Bring your rod and reels and fish or crab off the dock. Watch the red and black drum tailing:) The house has a large shaded yard and porch that looks out over the Eastern Bayou as well. The Bonaire Cottage has the original hardwood floors and native unpainted knotty pine walls that add warmth to this unique original Florida home. The Master bedroom has a Queen bed and the second bedroom has 2 twin beds. Some of the original owner's dishes, decoration, and artwork are still displayed, adding much charm to this 'Florida Cracker House'
Watch the abundant wildlife and beautiful to spectacular sunrises from the back porch or dock. There are white egrets that perch in the yard and occasionally on the porch. Enjoy a cup of coffee or have your breakfast on the back porch which has a great swing and outdoor seating that overlooks the Gulf's eastern bayou. On low tide see the Pink Spoon Bill's snooping around for minnows that were left behind. Sometimes we have porpoises join us and put on a show rounding up mullet. That usually visit us in the late spring and summer. Not always, but sometimes several days in a row. Lots and lots of birds during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.
Grill your catch of the day and have a picnic or maybe just have an old fashion wiener roast in the large shaded backyard. Maybe have a game of Horseshoes! In the fall, enjoy an outdoor fire or oyster roast. Access to the deeper water channel #2 is approximately 250 feet away but it has gotten shallow over the last several years so we recommend launching your boat at the outside boat ramp. (Gulf of Mexico) That way you are not tied to the tides. No need to get in your car...boat rentals and fishing supplies are available across the street at the Cedar Key Marina. They are also available at D & W Bait shop...around 300 feet from the cottage.
The high school's tennis courts are open to the public. A basketball court is located at the beach downtown, just go join in a pickup game or you may just have the court to yourself!
If you are looking for a fancy, high-end house, this isn't the place for you. But if you are looking for a relaxing, fun, interesting, old fashion vacation with your family or friends then Cedar Key and the Bonaire Cottage would be a perfect fit!
The Bonaire Cottage will make your vacation stay in Cedar Key charming in every way.

Awesome host. I got the privilege to meet and speak with her personally. Check in and out was a breeze. Cedar Key was a little slow for my pace. They were hard hit by hurricane Helene, and they are still recovering. It is good for fishing, and kayaking and there is a nice public park with a small, but nice beach and swim area.

Sorry Cedar Key was a little slow paced for your taste. Thank you for saying I was a great host. It was wonderful meeting you. I could tell when I met you that y’all loved the house and all the wildlife…. It is an awesome place. Cedar Key is definitely laid-back. That is the attraction for lots of my guest, people ask me all the time what there is to do there, I say a whole lot of nothing but it sure is fun!!! Actually amazing:))) Have fun at your next destination!! Rosemary
The house was lovely and the view out the back was so very nice. The kitchen and bath were well stocked. An issue with the coffee pot was handled immediately. The beds were super comfortable. Rosemary was so nice to talk to and we all really enjoyed our stay. Wonderful! Thank you Rosemary and Shirlene!

Soooo glad you thought it was lovely!! I'm going fishing next week in Cedar Key and I love catching trout!! Thanks for staying with us. Hope to have you back!!
Cozy cabin, walking distance to everything the area has to offer. The covered porch overlooking the backyard was our favorite offering us water views and the many birds who made the waterfront home. We were fortunate enough to be there when the osprey were nest building. The host was very friendly and always available to assist.
The cottage is just the right amount of space for us and is fixed up super cute. Though located on the main highway as you’re going into town, we enjoy the backyard view.
We loved the rustic yet fully pampering feel of this cottage. Perfect location to walk to everything Cedar Key has to offer. We willDeftly be back. The host is amazing as wellAs the community of Cedar Key.

This home is amazing! We will be back. Love the burnt pine wood floors! House is well stocked. Kitchen was easy to cook in and had everything we needed. The bathroom was clean and had enough towels. Great shower. Bed was comfortable. Easy check in. The water views from the back porch are beautiful. We spent the afternoons out there enjoying the view. Already looking to see when we can come back!

The house was in a perfect location. The views were amazing, and the property was immaculate. Cedar Key holds many of my best memories, and staying here added more.
The house is in a great location to access Cedar Key. The back windows and deck offer great views of a mangrove backwater. The house met all of our needs. We recommend it highly.
The cottage was exactly as pictured. The location perfect! The back porch offers a spectacular view and hours of serenity. Would definitely stay again!

About the host
Hosted by Rosemary Cooke
I was born and raised in Cedar Key, I met Dave there in 1977. We got married in the Cedar Key Episcopal Church in 1989. We resided in Austin Texas, and owned and ran a automotive repair shop and a body shop for 25 years. We have two children that are young adults that love to come to Cedar Key and bring their friends. Their friends usually plan to only stay one week but end up staying 3 or 4 weeks because they are having such a great time! I sold the automotive shop in 2016, retired and now travel to Cedar Key, and numerous other wonderful locations to fish, eat good food and spend time with my friends and family.
Why they chose this property
We chose to buy a house in Cedar Key because we love the gulf coast, with all of its wildlife, great fishing, good seafood, and all the wonderful places to go that are nearby. The people there are so friendly. We have a lot of friends and family there. It is so different from our hectic lives in Austin. Once we get to Cedar Key, we turn off the computers, phones, and any other high-tech gadget we have, and start relaxing and trying to really reconnect with one another. The wonderful thing about being in Cedar Key is the time we really spend together there, the kids walk down to the City Park at the beach at night and play basketball, then come home and play board games for hours...you can hear their laughter next door. We sit out on the back porch and just swing and talk... sometimes we build a fire in the fire pit and have a wiener roast. Over the years as I have traveled I have met so many people that have been to Cedar Key and fell in love with the area and way of life. Everyone that vacationed in Cedar Key as children told me that their fondest memories of growing up or vacationing were from when they traveled to Cedar Key. We LOVE it too!!! And can't wait to retire in Cedar Key.
What makes this property unique
It is a short walk to downtown Cedar Key's restaurants, shopping, and fishing pier. We are direct across from the Cedar Key Marina where you can get all of your boating and fishing supplies. Enjoy the boat dock behind the house, it has a deck area that is great for watching the eastern sunrises. Bikes, kayaks, golf cart rentals, boat tours are all within walking distance. The fishing is terrific and so is the bird watching!! You can fish right behind our house and catch fish (dock closed for repairs). It is so beautiful out around the other islands. We go almost every year and tour the Old Lighthouse on Seahorse Key. The Pelicans are nesting then and when you go up in the lighthouse you can see hundreds of momma pelicans feeding their babies. We see manatees every year out around North Key, they are fascinating whether it is your first time or 10th time to see them. When we are coming in from fishing there are always dozens of porpoises that are feeding we stop and are amazed how close they will come up to the boat. You can almost touch them! You won't find a better place than Cedar Key for spectacular sunsets or sunrises!! Be sure to bring your camera! Also, bring your water shoes...during the full moon when there is the Spring tide, the tide goes REALLY low, which makes it perfect for walking out on the Sand Spit and collecting sand dollars. (Try not to step on them!) There are so many day trips to take near Cedar Key: Manatee and Fanning Springs, Suwanee River, Ichetucknee Springs, you will be amazed how truly beautiful...so much nature....so inexpensive!
