Come visit our Cedar Key island getaway and truly embrace nature's paradise! Cedar Key Island, the clam capital, is far enough away from the hectic outside life but close enough to airports to make this escape possible. It's a wonderful, quiet town with a lot of character - they say it feels like the 'old Key West'. Our home has a gorgeous new kitchen island, appliances, colorful decorations...to put a smile on your face. Decorated with airy colors to kick back and let the stress fade away. Loft with 2 full beds (requires notice at the time of the reservation; bedding will be available for use but the loft beds will not be made in advance of arrival; loft has a short ceiling & is via a ladder), 2 bedrooms each with a queen bed, 2 bathrooms (attached to each bedroom), a pullout couch and the outside deck positioned perfectly to take in the BREATHTAKING VIEW and GORGEOUS SUNSETS. Since the sun sets on our side, in the afternoons it is important to keep the shades drawn to keep things cool. Clam shell, rock, private, quiet, road. The spectacular, quiet beauty of nature gently caresses the back of our home. When you are ready to explore the town or pop over to the tiny airport to watch the visiting planes. The best way to start the day - sit on our deck with a cup of coffee in hand, with the breeze gently blowing. Be a part of the peaceful atmosphere - you will WANT to turn off the cell phone and just be in the moment. Walk down to the nearby nature walk for a quick swim and enjoy a bird watching paradise!
Are you familiar with Cedar Key? It's lovely.
We absolutely enjoy any time we can spend in the home. It's a great place - really cute as a button. It's "bright" with decorations to really make you smile. We purchased items from local artists to decorate. Visiting is like putting real life aside and we bet you'll adore it. The view is beyond gorgeous from our deck . Folks in the neighborhood really stay to themselves so it's like having your own road to the home. There is an outdoor shower on the deck overlooking the salt marsh. It's lots of fun to wash off at the end of the day while watching the sun set. We just installed a gate up on the deck so a pup can enjoy a nap in the sunshine. Each morning birds from around the area feed on the fish in the shallow waters at low tide not far from the deck. The view from the deck changes each day depending on the weather and tides. (We are not waterfront, there is no fishing from our house. There are great locations in town and over at the nature walk to fish.) Please note that CK is an island so internet connections, anywhere on the island, are not as strong as populated cities that you may be used to - but embrace the quiet and opportunity to enjoy your family & the lovely island!
The island has a great golf cart rental place so lots of people enjoy that unique experience and park their cars :) while they are visiting. The nature walk is very close to our house so we like to walk down there. Sometimes we swim at the end of the path. We enjoy the town "beach" but prefer a few quiet spots we've found, to splash around and enjoy the quiet. The town beach and most places throughout the island are really pet friendly. We often see dolphins while we are swimming! For kayaking, there are 2 single kayaks and 1 tandem kayak available for use. You need to drive with the kayaks to launch. We throw them in the back of the car and go off the town beach. It's fun to ride over to the little airport. Folks travel from far and wide to fish in CK, bird watch or take photographs. We totally look forward to taking boat and or small Plane tours while in CK, learning about the little islands nearby or better yet, renting a boat and exploring them ourselves! The islands are great - they are quiet, undisturbed and it's awesome to picnic as we sit in the little pools of water or at the water's edge. There is a nice mix of artists locally which is neat. There are interesting little shops - jewelry, paintings, clothes, hot sauce - all kinds of cool things to purchase or look at. There are several small churches that welcome visitors. The small library has a computer for use and it's easy to get a card to take out books (and they have piles of donated books to keep). There is a huge pier in the center of town for fishing. Go to the hardware store to ask any questions - they know everything there! CK is the clam capital of course, so you are in for a treat. We visited one of the clam places (on the right as you enter town, but before you go over the little bridge to get to the gas station). You can buy tons of clams at a super reasonable price and have a clam feast! Restaurants - Some say the best burgers are at Island Hotel (and it's rumored it is haunted there!) but my kids would say Steamers for a burger. Iteamers has really good food (especially the sea food pasta dish & the blacked shrimp taco). There is a new pizza place in town now too! Our favorite grownup hang out is the Tikki Bar on the right hand side a little before you enter town (sign says Low Key Hideaway and there are brightly painted doors) for an inexpensive drink, great sunset in a casual atmosphere. The little hardware store in town has a helpful staff. We try to plan ahead though and stop in Crystal River or another larger town on the way in, to get supplies we will need during our stay like bottled water, suntan lotion, bug spray (always needed in rural Florida), foods we can't live without...There is also a dollar general just outside of town that is handy to have nearby. The kids and I spent 5 weeks in Cedar Key over the summer. We weren't sure if we'd "get bored" but the time flew by and we cried when we had to leave! It's truly a pleasure to visit. We've tried to make our home into a retreat - ready for relaxation and enjoyment. The place just makes us smile. One of my favorite parts of CK, is to have morning coffee or an afternoon margarita out on the quiet deck, enjoying one of most glorious views imaginable. Seriously, our view is terrific - wildlife, gorgeous sunsets and the open sky. It's so private and calm. I thought I'd be on laptop nonstop being so far away from civilization but within days, I stuck it in a drawer and just enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere! Hopefully you like seafood - the kids dream of going back to CK soon to get their fill. We bought a 100 clams for $35 on our last night there during the last trip and cooked them up in white wine and garlic - it was a wonderful celebration! What else can I tell you that might be helpful? Please email back. Thank you!

Loved the deck at the back of the home, sunsets were so nice! Very private home, no homes to either side. Whimsical decorations were nice. Wi-Fi easy to access. Very good space for a family or couples. Loved Cedar Key!
This is a colorful and very well appointed home. The hosts are very available and responsive. Unfortunately we had to leave early due to an emergency. I absolutely loved the jukebox! It’s a fun and comfortable place to enjoy Cedar Key. It’s also very private and very quiet.
This was our first time at Cedar Key. We love the small town vibe. It was so peaceful and everyone is so friendly. We met so many people in our stay. This was definitely a relaxing week for us. The house is secluded and private. We brought our Kayaks and were able to keep them non visible. The house is cozy and overlooks the the top of the trees at The Marsh.
Spent a week here and it was perfect. Local restaurants have awesome seafood at great prices and the sunsets are beautiful. The house is very comfortable and very quiet in the evening. I would recommend this home to anyone.

Very nice, bright, and beachy
Very clean & well appointed home. The town is always fun. We will return
Private, marsh view get away close to downtown Cedar Key
This property is secluded but just a quick golf cart ride to downtown Cedar Key. Full amenities with a well equipped kitchen. Four adults and our dogs. We cooked in most evenings, but also went out for cocktails at Bonish Thirsty Emporium (a must visit for adult beverages). Thoroughly enjoyed our visit as we have each time since 2018. You will not disappointed in the property. Kudos to the owners Art and April.
From the moment I requested booking until the end of my vacation, Art and April were wonderful communicators about their place and the surrounding islands. I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival and the view of birds I could watch all day! The house was clean and comfortable with some fun decor. I will definitely contact again for another stay! Second visit to this property. We love Cedar Key and this place offered great views of the salt/mangrove marsh fantastic for birdlife. The appliances are modern especially the new washer and dryer. The WIFI is probably not suitable for anyone planning to work remotely at best we had a max of 6mbs down and barely 0.5 upload, Hopefully AT&T will bring fiber to the islands later this year. However, the AT&T mobile signal was excellent.
Art and April's house sits on a salt marsh that faces the sunset. The bird life was amazing, the sunsets were glorious. The house is well set up for up to two couples - each bedroom has an ensuite bath. There is a sleeping loft for two more as well. It's also well set up for entertaining. If you cook, the appliances are great! Since we were there in the winter, we didn't take full advantage of the bikes (my husband brought his own and biked a lot!) and kayaks. Cedar Key - and this part of Florida in general - are a rewarding place to visit, and the seafood is VERY fresh!
Very responsive host and easy check in and out. House needs some TLC; soft spots in floors could become hazardous along with deck railing. Had very comfy beds and overall very clean other than the refridgerator which needs a deep cleaning. Would have been helpful to know what switches controlled what lights and/or operating light bulbs and/or batteries. Couldnt get several lights and/or fans on.
This was our first visit to Cedar Key and we immediately felt comfortable and welcome as Art and April communicate so well including many tips and recommendations. The home is very close to the downtown area, we rented a golf cart from CKP Rentals and also booked a fishing charter with them. Captain Danny was great and we got to cook our delicious catch in the fully equipped kitchen at the house, combined with watching the sunset. The bird watching from the deck was amazing, it was so peaceful overlooking the salt marsh. We did not get to use the kayaks or bikes so hopefully next time. We had some delicious meals downtown and enjoyed exploring the island on the golf cart. The home was great, everything we needed was provided, they had a great movie collection, the kids enjoyed some movie nights, a juke box and overall comfortable home perfect for a relaxing vacation. Can't wait to return.

Nice location but dirty
The housekeeper was there working when we arrived, doing all of the linens. She had probably cleaned the main areas of the floor and wiped down the bathroom sinks. However, we found crumbs under every item in the kitchen, mats of hair in the showers and behind the toilets in the bathrooms, and the home had probably not been dusted or the cracks cleaned of grime and trash in at least a year. The balcony has a lovely view of the marsh and we spent many hours watching the birds and the sunset - lovely! But don't touch the balcony railing as it is very rickety and dangerous! However, the high speed wifi worked as advertised and the interior furnishings were also as advertised. However, the bicycles are all broken and unusable. We did not check the kayaks but suspect the same. Overall, this is a house that started out, probably, as a lovely rental. It appears, though, that it has been rented out for a long time without any maintenance or true cleaning. We did enjoy walking from the house to various trails (Cemetery Trail) and in to town.

Response from VrboOwner on 22 Mar, 2020
Unfortunately, the guests arrived over 2 hours earlier than the agreed check in time, which interfered with the house preparation. Upon arrival, the guests asked the housekeeper to leave, and told her that they'd take care of outstanding cleaning????
Consistently, friends and guests that have visited our home report that the home is clean and tidy. Just last month we got a special note in the mail to pass to the housekeeper, indicating that the house was prepared well and clean so it is mysterious that this guest's review is so opposite of all the other feedback. If the guest had simply reached out with any concerns, we would have asked the housekeeper to return.
We would have appreciated a call if there was a problem with the bicycles. Upon inspection now that we have a heads up, the pedals on the bicycles were damaged. An additional, 2 new bicycles have been ordered. The comment about guessing about the condition of the kayaks is perplexing.
Our home is not rented out constantly. It is our home and great care is taken to keep it lovely. This year alone the bottom deck was replaced, a dog gate installed on the upper deck, a new washer, new dryer, new toilet & new water heater was installed, and brand new mattresses were purchased for all bedrooms. As mentioned before, our visitors have reported positively on the cleanliness and overall condition of the house. In addition, the cost of visiting our home is lower than market rate. We have worked hard to set realistic expectations and provide a good value for our guests.
We encourage any visitors to reach out immediately if there are any concerns or questions. We have a property manager who is wonderful and super responsive when services are requested as expressed in multiple reviews.
We are sorry to hear that this guest did not enjoy their stay
We had a good time during our stay! The house was very clean and had state of the art appliances which were fun! (The refrigerator, omg!) The juke box (my daughter kept calling it a "juice box" LOL) was also super fun. The owners were receptive to anything that was needed. We needed more bowls because there were four of us and I think there were four bowls which naturally, didn’t last long! There was a 2 cup measuring cup that I was able to use to eat my cereal out of, so it worked out. The owner said she would order more bowls although they apparently arrived after we left. One tip I do have is to make sure you bring your own bar soap for the shower and if you like to cook they have pots and pans but no baking pans (like 9x13). The best thing I did was bring my crock pot! I would say that this is not a good home for people with kids as there isn’t much for kids to do (my kids couldn’t bike or kayak, although those were supplied), and my smaller kids had a hard time sitting on the barstools at the table. But for adults? Spot on! The town was extremely quaint and I highly, highly recommend renting a golf cart. Cedar Key Adventures is who we rented from and were great! We had so much fun just simply exploring the island! We were there during dry season so the salt marsh was pretty much completely dry, but you can’t do anything about the weather! It was still gorgeous. We had a fantastic week with only those few minor issues. We would definitely go back, but without the kids.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the house. The view was wonderful and the Juke Box added to the fun. We did not turn on the TV the week we were there. The Kitchen was so convenient for the 'chef'.
Thank you
It was our first visit to Cedar Key, the property was clean and comfy. We had all the amenities of home. The location was perfect. It was far enough away from downtown, but close enough for a nice golf cart ride to Dock Street. We would absolutely recommend this property to our friends and family.
A comfortable house hidden away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Cedar Key. We are not fanatical birders but we loved the variety of bird life viewed from the elevated deck. We are regular visitors to Cedar Key (since the mid 1980s) and this was the best wildlife viewing we have experienced. Daily flyovers of Roseate Spoonbills was especially fabulous The house met all our needs for a fortnight's stay and communication with April & Art was speedy. We hope to be back.
