About this property

Charming Cottage--Modern Amenities-Quiet Downtown Neighborhood

Houston Street Cottage is a 1460 square foot Victorian Cottage built in 1904. Retaining much of its historic charm, the home is now modern in all of its amenities. This 2-bedroom, 2-bath house is located in a quiet neighborhood on Manhattan’s historic Houston Street. Upon arrival, guests may park on the street in front of the house or, off street, adjacent to the alley out back. Original limestone curbs line the Street and brick sidewalks carry pedestrians past the historic homes. A smaller brick sidewalk leads you to the front porch where you enter into a domain of peace, relaxation and tranquility.

Once inside, guests will immediately notice the attention to detail and eclectic decorating style throughout. You’ll first be greeted by the comfortable parlor that includes a chase lounge, loveseat and reclining chair. Next is the living room decorated in modern décor, with its large sectional couch, swiveling chair and 43” HDTV with Blue.ray player. Connecting the living room to the Kitchen and Dining areas is the gracious hallway with the bedrooms occupying opposite sides of the hall. The dining room is set up with a table that seats six and a buffet/serving table to the side. Tasteful trash and recycling bins occupy this space as well. Adjacent to the dining room is the spacious kitchen with full sized appliances, including a full sized washer and dryer. The cabinets are stocked with all the items necessary to cook your favorite meal and there is still room in the cabinets for your dry goods. Off the dining room is the ¾ bath, which is a little odd yet oddly convenient. Both bedrooms feature queen sized beds, night stands with lamps, full sized dressers with mirrors and armoires with extra towels and blankets. The master bedroom also has the attached full bath and a private deck.

We have designed the Houston Street Cottage to be quaint and charming yet spacious and comfortable enough for you to spread out and truly relax. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we enjoyed creating this place for you.

Cheers! Your hosts,
Michael and Judine Mecseri

We (Michael and Judine Mecseri) both grew up in the mountains of Colorado but, moved to Manhattan in the late 80s to finish our college degrees. We ended up staying, building careers and raising our daughter. Manhattan has become “home” and Michael runs his own design/build business, Timber & Stone while Judine is a Care Manager at CenterPointe Physicians. We enjoy Manhattan and all it has to offer and wanted to make a place that would allow others to do the same, if only for a short while. It is such a pleasure to live in a community that is constantly improving itself. It's fun to see all the progress and take part in a town that's 'on-the-move'. As much as things have changed over the years, Manhattan still retains the great small town atmosphere while providing some great amenities.

Our vision for the Houston Street Cottage is to provide a home-like setting for visitors to Manhattan while they are enjoying and experiencing the town. Houston Street Cottage is a second home for Michael’s parents, who live in Colorado. It is a place they can call home while visiting with their children and grandchildren. From our house to your home—we hope you enjoy your Home Away from Home at the Houston Street Cottage!
