For a group it is a bargain. It is for you if you relish the prospect of enjoying the sound of the waves, the feel of the cooling trade winds and the view from one of the most breathtaking spots in the Caribbean. It is a tonic for the senses.

Throughout the villa, a mix of antiques and art pieces contribute to a unique and beautiful living space. For those lucky enough to experience it, Villa PassiFlora is destined to become a never-to-be-forgotten vacation home. If you are looking for a simple roof over your head, look elsewhere. We have added a Cottage on the Villa PassiFlora property, surrounded by forest, fruit trees and tropical plants, with a lovely view of the Atlantic Ocean. Privacy has been maintained between the villa and the cottage, which have completely separate entrances. Exceedingly spacious, the cottage is self-catered, and it has a complete kitchen. The bedroom is designed for a couple or individual, and a third person can use a daybed in the living room. There are front and rear verandahs, and guests are welcome to any fruits growing on the grounds of the cottage. There is even a washing machine in the cottage. The cottage is rented separately. Spectacular home in a very wild and local area of Dominica. The House and related services are amazing, it's very easy to get there and the staff and house owner are so welcoming (loved Thena the dog also). That's one of the few time I could do a digital detox as everything is so peaceful there. for the little path under the home that allows to go to the beach that is almost private as there is no one.

We are so glad that Villa Passiflora was such a great experience for you and your family, Emma. You were a pleasure to host, and we'd love to see you return.
Gorgeous views, lots of space, fun pool, spacious kitchen. We were a family group aged 9 to 80 and all of us had plenty of space to be together or separate. We were close to a small town with mini markets, restaurants, gas, and ATM. And close to beaches.Shelon, the caretaker, was wonderful -- attentive, but private, always readily available by WhatsApp. We definitely enjoyed every aspect of this villa.
super view of the ocean, great place to chill. owner and house taker are great people. No complains, look out for the Chinese trucks!!

Glad you guys had a great time! We are fortunate that we're far enough from the trucks that noise isn't an issue, but they have made driving more challenging for visitors. It is worth considering a driver!
Stunning views from fabulous property. Spacious rooms with comfortable beds. Sherlon as on site manager was second to none. From a practical standpoint could do with more mirrors and better lighting in the bedrooms. Also the cupboards and wardrobes could do with a regular airing. These observations may seem a little churlish as we’ve absolutely loved our stay at Passiflora.
Home is beautiful. View is fantastic. The grounds around the house are wonderful. Be aware, the home is totally open air. No air conditioner at all. They have fans in the bedrooms, but could use air conditioning. Loved the location. Sherlon, the caretaker was so nice and always there when we needed him. He is a great resource!!

Beautiful Island , Beautiful Villa
First the villa- how often do you get a chance to stay at the most beautiful villa on an island?
PassiFlora offers exactly that. This villa has a wonderful layout and design which allows you to enjoy outdoor living at its best. We stayed in the master bedroom which had a very comfortable king size mattress and a million dollar view . The kitchen is well stocked with essentials for cooking or mixing your favorite island beverage. The pool and pool view speaks for itself.
The staff- ALL the staff at the villa are great! Isaline (the housekeeper) always has a wonderful smile and and full of energy.
The island -the people of Dominica are very friendly and helpful. The island has gained back much of its greenery and colorful tropical plants after Maria. There is 2 very well stocked and reasonably priced grocery stores in the village close by (3 min by car 15-20 min by foot).
The negative- We had to leave
Villa Owners- Thanks to Bruce and Ann for making our Dominica Dream come true. Thank you both!

Thanks so much, Graham and Cindy. We look forward to having you come back, and we are happy to be welcoming guests to the beautiful Nature Island again.
Pictures will never justify this place and island. It was like nowhere I’ve ever been. After exploring every day, coming back to the house for a beautiful swim as the sun set and moon rose, listening to music from the provided house Bluetooth speakers was just perfect. The night sounds of many types of frogs were beautiful too. Waking in the morning to cool breezes and many songs from birds was unimaginable. The walk to the coast (you must wear sturdy hiking sandals such as Tevas) you walk through many trees with humming birds.
The house has everything you need. Private areas to enjoy by yourself and areas for family enjoyment. The openness to the rooms are so freeing. We opened every shutter door every time we came home.
The caretakers, Markeisha and Sherlon, we’re very approachable and kind. Both of them were happy to give suggestions for food, and exploring. Markeisha is a great cook too. She made us breakfast and a dinner. We are so happy we chose this house and island for our first family vacation since Covid.

We are always delighted when guests completely vibe in on both Dominica and Villa Passiflora. You obviously experienced the magic, Debra. Thank you.
Très belle endroit, la plage à 2 pas ,la maison très ouverte sur la baie, beaucoup de place, les lits très confortables et surtout n’oubliez pas d’aller chez POZ!
Our family of 5 from Toronto stayed at Villa Passiflora for a week over the Christmas holidays and we can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. The home and grounds are very well taken care of and the accommodations were exceptional. The owners have gone through a lot of effort to make the villa very comfortable and encourage people to fully enjoy the island. We especially enjoyed the hammocks and the beautiful ocean view.
Dominica is a beautiful island that beckons to be explored and Calibishie is a great home base to reach deserted cove beaches and access to good restaurants.

Absolutely beautiful house
My family ( 4) just spent a lovely week at Pasi Flores. The house is spectacular as are the views. It is very comfortable, and has everything you need for a wonderful vacation. Of special note are the people that work at the house. Iseline the housekeeper is wonderful, and be sure and ask her to cook a meal for you. Sharlone the groundskeeper and all around helper is also great. And, not be forgotten is Nigel who the owner recommends as a guide. Nigel made our trip and was indispensable as we tried several hikes and tours.

Nothing makes us happier than when our guests have a great time at Villa PassiFlora, and it's especially gratifying that our staff is a big part of the satisfaction. We met Isaline during our first visit to Dominica about 15 years ago, and when she was between jobs, we hired her before the villa was even completed! She's that special. Caretaker Sherlon has been our most recent addition to the team, and a very fine addition he has been. And Nigel--whom we also met on our first visit--is a fantastic guide and resource for our guests. These people are a huge part of what make Villa PassiFlora such a special place.

An Amazing Property with a View Worth Waking Up To
We had an amazing time during our stay in Calibishie. The staff at the house was ver accommodating and very pleasant. The home itself is outstanding and the effect get-away. I will note that the island is still under a period of recovery from the the hurricanes. It takes some patience, resourcefulness and understanding of the local amenities but it should not hinder a great time. The people of the island are very welcoming and hospital - they are glad to have visitors and it shows.
We will definitely be returning to Dominica and Passi Flora.

A wonderful place, highly recommended
Villa Passiflora is the most beautiful place we have ever stayed in. well thought out, wonderfully furnished and wanting for nothing we would love to return. The house in in a stunning location on the beautiful north coat of Dominica. The owners have thought of everything you might need and are helpful and on hand for any information you need before your trip. The on site staff are efficient and friendly, helping with anything whilst you are there.
It really is a special place. Thank you both so much

Dream-Come-True Vacation
Our group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our week and were sorry to leave. First of all, the architecture and the wood are stunning. The interior decoration is very pleasing, with lots of details we kept noticing.
Everything was very comfortable: beds, towels, sheets, lounge chairs. Bathrooms were great. The kitchen was so well-stocked.
And now the best part: the view! Whenever I came out on 1 of the verandas, the view of the ocean, waves crashing on rocks, lights blinking on Guadaloupe, distant mountains...it took my breath away! We were all pinching ourselves, feeling as if we were dreaming of paradise. And the roar of the waves and the chirping tree frogs would lull us to sleep at night.
The housekeeper and caretakers were all very welcoming and eager to help us in any way. They are unusually sweet people. We enjoyed 1 of Isalene’s scrumptious dinners.
During our stay we did a variety of activities, from hiking to swimming and loved the unspoiled island and the friendly people.
We hope to come back some time.

Greatly disappointed . . .
We rented Villa PassiFlora for the month of January, 2014. The owner, Bruce, was very responsive and easy to deal with in the confirmation process. We are two women well past retirement age, who escape the cold New England winters every year by renting somewhere each January, and then returning to a villa we have rented for over a decade in the British Virgin Islands.
Let me begin with the location: the view of the Atlantic Ocean from the pool and decks IS spectacular. But since the house faces North, there was not one spot where you could sit in the sun (at least in January), which means the infinity pool stays cold. Even with a 4-wheel drive car, you will find the roads are in awful shape and rental cars have the steering column on the right (British style). The nearest village of Calibishie is quite limited in services and goods, and the locals did not seem particularly friendly.
The Villa is described on the website as a "luxury villa" but it did not meet our experience and expectations with other luxury villas, some found on VRBO. The kitchen was not provisioned with a nice set of dishes (rather all but the cereal bowls and cups and saucers were plastic). There is no dishwasher, coffee maker, outside grill or toaster, and very limited glassware. Most troubling for us, since we are big readers, is the the fact that there were no comfortable reading chairs with lamps or other lighting. In fact the villa's lighting in general is sparse, mostly using wall sconces.
The most serious issue for us was safety. We understand that petty thievery is a problem on many of the islands, but we had never experienced the degree of concern exhibited by these owners. There are two dogs, a Rottweiler and a Pit Bull, who guard the perimeter of the house 24/7. In addition, the owners request that you close, bolt and lock, all of the doors on both levels whenever you leave the premises AND at night. While all of these measures are intended to make guests feel safe, it had the opposite effect on us.
In the end, the above issues were significant enough that we left after three days, despite having paid for the month. I am aware that our experience appears to be the exception, given other rave reviews--many of which influenced our decision to rent the Villa in the first place. My purpose in writing this review is in no way intended to "dis" this property or its owners, but rather to give future renters an additional perspective.

Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr, 2020
Creating Villa PassiFlora was truly a labor of love, and we have been delighted that the vast majority of our renters have found it a very special place to stay, but Dominica is not for everyone. We fell in love with the island both because of its extraordinary natural beauty and because it is a dramatically different culture than what we experience in the US. It is relatively undeveloped both physically and economically. We are delighted to spend time in a country where tourism is secondary to the island culture, having visited other beautiful islands where the cultural tone is set by tourism. Bumpy roads are OK: "The last of the real Caribbean."
Secondly, Villa PassiFlora is not for everyone. Our highest priorities in designing our home were to take advantage of the glorious location we have on the NE coast, while maintaining a cool, livable environment year-round. In terms of year-round comfort, shade trumps sun in the Caribbean. During winter months, when the sun is lowest in the sky, there is indeed little direct sun at poolside. Between walks to the beach and time in our observation tower, we’ve never felt deprived of sun. We try hard to live within the limitations of our solar energy generation-- which is part of our commitment to the eco-tourism philosophy. We don’t have a dishwasher or clothes dryer, and we try to avoid energy inefficient appliances and accessories. We do try to utilize CFL bulbs, and lighting is purposely relatively low intensity outside of the dining room and kitchen. We don’t have a recliner, but we do have traditional Caribbean plantation chairs and a pair of glorious McGuire chaise lounges. We need to make clear that more glass/dish/kitchenware is available on request, for those with more kitchen savvy.
In order to maintain the villa’s very open environment that maximizes enjoyment of the vistas, the breeze and the sound of the surf, our security is based on the presence of fulltime, live-in caretakers and our two dogs, Eevie and Jacko, two ridgeback/rottweiler/Doberman mixes (no pit bull). While we would continue to lock up the villa if both guests and staff are away, it is reasonable to leave it open unless our caretakers are away on errands.
I appreciate Jane’s thoughtful comments, which will help us continue to improve our guests’ experiences. I urge all potential guests to use this information, along with that presented on our website, to help decide if Villa PassiFlora is right for them.

Paradise found
We had the most amazing week in Dominica at Villa Passiflora. The house itself was so much nicer than we had imagined, it is all we had dreamed of in a Carribean destination. Stylish, natural and very comfortable without being ostentatious. You immediately feel at one with your surroundings which are stunning! If you can prise yourself away from the pool and terrace, a short walk takes you to an amazing stretch of coast with interesting rock formations and a lovely beach. The village of Calibishie is charming, authentic and a great place to enjoy the local food. The surrounding vegetation was so lush and beautiful we felt like we were holidaying in a tropical paradise, with amazing walks to waterfalls and stunning beaches, eating coconuts off the beach, and fresh bananas and mangoes from the roadside stalls. Everybody was so friendly, especially the housekeeper who made us feel like family. We were thoroughly charmed by the place and hope to return as soon as we can. Many thanks to all.
Staying at Villa Passiflora will transport you to a time when life was simple, and timeless, and the small wonders of nature are all around you. I used to fall asleep to the sound of the surf, and wake up to watch hummingbirds from the bathroom window as the sun rose over the bay. The villa is a complete ecosystem, and is graced by Isolene who is a wonderful cook, and Brad & Lisa who are the current caretakers, very friendly and helpful. You could stay a week at the villa, & not bother with a car, and spend time in Calibishie, with an occasional jaunt to Portsmouth. The beach was absolutely spotless & empty (August is the off season), and the Pointe was a great place to explore, and sit watching the sun set. But, since this was our first trip to Dominica, we chose to hire a car and a driver (essential for newbies!) and roam around the island. and what a beautiful, unspoilt island it is! Needless to say, time flew by, and our week went by all too fast. I most definitely recommend this as a getaway retreat!
My husband and I went to Pasiflora in December to change the pace at Christmas time. And what a change! Wow. The beauty of the place is spectacular. If there ever was a house designed to take full advantage of being outdoors this is it. The pictures are accurate. Everything is in fresh air and open to the magnificent views of the ocean below and the mountains beyond. At night you can see the lights of distant islands and the stars, that's all. I don't think my husband left the hammock, reading and sleeping. I liked exploring the wading pools and sitting in the surf. The food was wonderful, fresh and local. I'd say it's a great place to get away from the rush of ordinary life any time of the year.
Getting there was a hassle, I must admit, but we planned our trip to stay one night in Puerto Rico and enjoyed the Caribbean night life and shopping.

About the host
Hosted by Bruce Kaplan
Between us, we juggle lives in neurology, choreography, dance education, Pilates instruction, theater administration... and we have created what we believe is the most beautiful guest house in Dominica.
Why they chose this property
We spent a decade looking for seaside land and homes in Florida, California, the Yucatan, Tobago and the British Virgin Islands. Then we found Dominica. Dominica combines extraordinary-- almost overwhelming-- natural beauty with a sense of adventure and discovery. We are passionate about Dominica!
What makes this property unique
Even the best photographs can't convey the extraordinary effect of the gorgeous vista, the sound of the ocean and the sensation of continuous breeze as you revel in this very special place.
