Our guests enjoy the sunrise (watch as the watermen bring in their catch) AND the sunset each night with a spectacular vantage point for star gazing. Opportunities to walk, jog, bike, kayak, canoe, bird watch, collect beach glass, go crabbing, photography treks, right from our doorstep and dock.
Coffee/tea on the front porch is the way to begin your day, watch the nesting ospreys near the front of the property. Our yard ends at the BAY, with a huge fire pit, benches and chairs to enjoy the view. Play badminton, horseshoes, fly kites, etc. (provided) or just sit by the bay, watching the sunset and the cruise ships pass by. Two docks one w/ small boat lift for putting your small craft into the Honga River, so bring your kayaks and canoes! There is a public dock "put in" to launch your larger watercraft, and then use our dock to “park” during your stay.
The island has plenty of crab picking houses for FRESH just picked crab for your culinary creations. Or catch fresh crabs to cook your way, we provide small crab pots for you to try crabbing from our dock & steamer to cook them in!
We strive for Hoopers Island Bayside Haven to truly be a "get away from it all" location, we do have WIFI and BASIC DISH TV w/ Netflix and you can add your own streaming services. We have plenty of books, DVDs, games, and puzzles. The Island, the Blackwater Refuge and the new National Park Harriet Tubman museum are the local sites for you to enjoy during your getaway and there are more in Cambridge and in nearby Easton.
Old Salty's is our local (within walking distance) seafood restaurant, where you can meet the locals as well as the folks that drive from various parts of the Eastern Shore to eat here. (Open Wed-Sun) Like them on Facebook to see what entertainment they have during your stay.
You may rent kayaks/canoes or go on a charter fishing boat tour, or just a scenic tour, right on the island. The land is flat, perfect for biking or going for a long walk from bridge to bridge.
We have crisp cool 100% Cotton linens, organic and/or made in the USA when we can find them. We steam clean all soft surfaces (pillows, mattresses, cushions, etc.) between guests, to keep down the allergens and just to offer you a comfortable stay. All bedding is encased in bug proof, allergen free materials. We are picky about where we stay, and apply these standards to our vacation rentals as well.

Why they chose this property
We bought the Haven several years ago as a place for our family to get away from it all and enjoy the outdoors. We loved watching our children enjoy the water sports, my son working on his sailboat, and combing the 'beach area' for sea glass, biking and walking around the island.
Our children could roam around the island without a care, as it is a very safe and quiet location. The roads are flat, easy to bike or walk on, and the water is perfect for kayaks or canoes, and not so deep you that need to worry.
In our fast paced lives, we all need a place to just 'be' and for us, Hoopers Island Bayside Haven is just that. We hope you will also enjoy the opportunity to relax and enjoy the scenery.

What makes this property unique
The ability to watch the sunsets every night, and sunrise when we get up early enough. I can not stress this enough, we never tire of the views, and even if I'm cooking, I take a minute to look outside as the sun goes down.
For me personally, there is nothing better than getting up early, making a cup of tea, grabbing my book and sitting on the front porch on one of the rockers and watching the boats come back in. Bliss!
We also really enjoy having friends over at night and building a fire and of course having some drinks while we relax and catch up.
My 'book club' enjoys all of the antique and thrift shopping within an hour's drive, wine tasting at Layton's Chance Winery and ending the day at Salty's for crab dinners and Hoopers Island Ice Tea. They look forward to the trip every year, the 'club' is growing because of this 'field trip.' We now have added marking off the various "stops" on the Harriet Tubman Trail as part of our annual book club week.
