It couldn't have been any nicer!

My friends and I stayed for 5 days, and it was absolutely lovely - Both inside and outside (the patio was amazing!) A huge shout out to Shane (the property manager), who was always there when we needed him. He was great. Thanks again - we'll never forget our fabulous stay.

Chilling out in Boonville

Really nice to have a caretaker on premises. Shane was awesome. We didnt need anything, but he was available if we did. The owner Mark offered us an extra night stay because it rained during our stay. Great location. Walk to town and a few wineries. Drive to all kinds of spots in the valley.

We really enjoyed the cottage. The only bit of criticism would be that the window blinds were really dirty. Other than that we thought the place was great.

No internet or cable tv

This was the most disappointing point...though the description was honest, we just don't think about these amenities until they aren't available. What was available but did not work, DVD player. My friends and I found the location perfect for our weekennd wine tour get-away. However this was less a retreat and more like visiting grandma's house. The windows and bathrooms need a good deep cleaning and we could not find a tea kettle (there was on for display that was dusty on the non use fire stove), can opener was broken. I left the on set proper manager a note with our thanks and lists of minor but helpful improvements. With this said. Yes, i could come back. It's charming but it just needs some TLC.

Visiting Daughter and Grandson

Our stay was enjoyable since we visited family and despite the issues with the house Positives .+House close to town +House Roomy +Kitchen available with most appliances needed for cooking +Bed comfortable +Sheets nice +Adequate towels +Air condition in bedroom +Fans in bedroom, dining area, hallway +caretaker replaced items that should have been clean but we’re usable when we arrived +owner allowed grandson to stay without extra fee +nice outdoor area Needs improvement Accuracy on description on website- tv and dish listed but no dish or use of tv. Outdated and unusable dvds we’re left WiFi listed but not available - owner cancelled WiFi during COVID. We were told to use coffee shop in town which closed at lunch and not open weekends. Cellular service costly to me and sketchy while in house. Cleanliness- stove top greasy and grime on burners. Only 2 pots usable- caretaker brought in a new set after we informed him Shower curtain in master bedroom moldy. Caregiver handed us a new one which we had to put in ourselves. Coffee maker unusable due to built up grime inside and out. Caretaker bought a new one for us Big issue with odor as we first entered home. Improved but lasted throughout the week despite using air conditioning and fans, and keeping doors open . Old house yes, but obviously needs thoough cleaning. Metal screen doors need a scrubbing. Perhaps replace carpet in living area. Leave doors open before guests arrive to air out place. Next time we visit will look to stay elsewhere. Sorry to leave this review. In a small town where options are limited this house could be a gem if it was cleaned up. Sorry owners had a difficult time during COVID with rentals. Last signed guest book was in April, and before that in 2019.

Very quaint property centrally located

Stayed with my wife and another couple we've known since college. We were met right away by onsite property manager, who was very helpful. Location is fantastic, just off main street in Boonville, CA. Walking distance to town, including nice little grocery store. Great spot to start a morning before heading out hiking, wine tasting, etc. I left my hiking shoes behind and owner was kind enough to have them sent to my house, which I also really appreciated! Would come back and maybe even bring the kids next time!

Convenient older farm house close into Boonville

Great location (easy to walk to town), but just as peaceful from being just down the block, and great to listen to nature. We found the bed comfortable, and the layout great for our needs. It is in need of a cleaning (did have the appearance that it had not been rented for a while - needs a good spring cleaning). As well, there was evidence of a bit of a mouse issue (especially in the hall bath vanity), and the kitchen ware had not been cleaned well in a while (we had to wash quite a bit of stuff just to be able to use, including a slight growth in the coffee maker). That being said, we think this property has a lot to offer, and is a good value. A detailed cleaning would really put this as the place to stay in Anderson Valley

I have been trying to get my money back for 2 months. The property owner specifically asked me to cancel my booking and when I did they never refunded my money. I have called and emailed multiple times and have heard nothing.

Nice little place in Anderson Valley.

Great little house conveniently located near Pinot tasting. Beautiful yard and setting, however could use better cleaning. Beds were clean and comfortable, but stove burners and shower interiors could use a good scrubbing, and dusting of all the cobwebs. Overall great place with plenty of room.

Wonderful Property

The house and cottages were perfect for our family. Our son was getting married in Boonville and the farm house and cottages were cozy and comfortable for our immediate family. The owner and caretaker were both very helpful and pleasant to work with. The house and cottages were very clean and well kept. Very quiet and walking distance to everything in Boonville and a short drive to hiking in Hendy Park or wine tasting in the local wineries. The house and cottages had everything needed for cooking and comfort. Air and or heat, everything worked perfect. The added bonus of the lovely surroundings made the weekend very enjoyable.

Sweet little home away from home

We've stayed at Redwood Rest several times before and this time, like all the others, was simply delightful. The house is perfectly located in Boonville such that you can walk to the County Fair and anywhere else in town, which is what we did on this trip. If you want to explore Anderson Valley, again you are in an ideal location. We always feel right at home in this comfy, rustic house. We found a nice bottle of pinot noir waiting for us when we entered the house. Everything was clean and tidy and just the way we remembered it. The one change that we noticed was that the twin beds were moved from one of the back bedrooms to the one off the dinning room, which was a great idea. If you are two couples, staying in the back bedrooms means you each have your own attached bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped, including coffee. We made our breakfast at the house and went out for lunches and dinners. There are some nice restaurants in easy walking distance. The beds are clean and comfy, and the two back bedrooms each have their own bath, which is really nice. We used the dinning room for meals as well as for playing cards and working a puzzle. If it's hot, you've got A/C and if its cold, you've got plenty of heaters. This trip we didn't need either. We spent our evenings chatting in the living room, which has plenty of comfy seating and a nice collection of magazines. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the patio and listened to the birds in the dappled sunlight under the giant redwood tree. Such a relaxing spot. It is great to have parking right in front of the house, especially when there's a big event like the county fair going on. Since we were spending our days at the fair and didn't want to head out right at noon, I contacted Shane, the caretaker, and he allowed us to have access to the house until 2:00. That really allowed us to relax and enjoy our last day in town. Thank you, Matt & Dixie for making your lovely home available for our adventures in Boonville. When the VRBO website mishandled the billing calculations, you were quick to figure out what went wrong and make things right. Easy and speedy communication made the booking problem disappear. We look forward to our next stay at Redwood Rest.

There’s a problem with this reservation

I didn’t stay. In fact, I canceled the reservation on June 24, 60 days prior to the date of the stay. But VRBO and the property owner have refused to refund my deposit, while belatedly acknowledging receipt of the cancellation. There is a serious problem with your customer service and business integrity, and I will never do business with VRBO again.

Wonderful

My family has rented the entire Wine Country Retreat property the past three years. We cannot say enough positive things about our experience. Everything was perfect. First, the house and cottages are beautiful - nicely furnished, clean and relaxing. The air-conditioning in the house and cottages is great - and have to note that the beds are very comfortable. The property manager is extremely helpful - check in and check out has been very smooth. The owners are quite lovely as well. The property is very close to town so everything is within walking distance. This is a quiet peaceful get away - nestled under the redwoods - that we highly recommend!

Adequate, but at a price

I'll start by noting that Steve D.'s review was pretty much our experience as well, and that a very thorough cleaning is long overdue. The linens and towels were fine, however, and the pillows were not lumpy. This is a very basic rental at a very healthy price. Three of us stayed for three nights, and we paid just shy of $1,250. Elsewhere, we would expect quite a bit more for that amount of money. There isn't a lot to choose from in the Anderson Valley - wherever you stay, booking early would be wise. The outside area was perfectly adequate - we especially enjoyed the redwood trees.

Functional, generally appears clean, and then there's that septic system issue...

I laughed out loud when I opened the front door and saw a large bottle of Woodbridge Chardonnay on the counter ... this was an odd welcome to Anderson Valley, to say the least. There are very few properties available in this area and we wanted to be in Anderson Valley for the annual Pint Noir festival...so there we were! The beds were generally comfortable, the pillows are lumpy and clumpy. The bed linens are way way past their useful lifespan...clean but grungy. The windows are filthy dirty. The kitchen is ridiculous, peppered with items from the dollar store or collected from random garage sales and goodwill. Yes, you’ll be able to prepare a very basic meal but if you want tea or instant coffee, bring your own kettle. We consider “clean” as a concept that should be applied to a whole room, a whole house. In this property you get general cleanliness by looking only at the main traffic patterns - if your view strays, you’ll encounter dirt and grime everywhere. Said simply, the house is not clean. At least not by our standards. Be very very careful if you shower in the vintage free-standing tub in the main bathroom...step up high and come down into a very, very slippery tub. Oh, and when any water is running in any of the bathrooms, the bathroom sinks begin this thumping gurgle sound....loudly. Yes, you heard right...try to ignore it....just try to sleep through it! Am I being harsh...maybe. But when you pay this much for a holiday rental, you should expect better value for money.

Execellent location

We were visiting the area for the Pinot Festival, the location was fantastic - easy access to the festival, local wineries, and less than a block to downtown Boonville and the Boonville Hotel. The owners were very professional and gracious and Capt. McCarthy was very helpful in helping with the local attractions. Thank-you for opening your home to us.

Great Location

Cottage was very comfortable albeit somewhat spartan. Very secluded and quiet yet convenient to downtown Boonville businesses. Easy walk to Boonville Hotel with its great prix fixe dinners and some of the local wine tasting rooms. Owners were very cordial and easy to communicate with. The bottle of chardonnay that awaited us was a very welcome nice touch. Perfect place to use as a convenient base for visiting the many wineries in the valley yet with the dining amenities of Boonville very close by. We would definitely consider booking this location again in the future as it is a good value for the price.

Loved it!

The owners and caretaker are unbelievably sweet, gracious and attentive. The house has a convenient location and ample parking right behind the Boonville Hotel but was surprisingly private due to surrounding trees. The interior was clean and rustic... don't expect modern amenities (dated baths, couch covers, no dishwasher, mismatched kitchen supplies, etc). The three bedrooms and three bathrooms were great for accommodating three couples. It should be noted that two beds/bedrooms are only separated by a thin wall and the beds/linens/pillows are a bit dated. There is a dining room in the middle of the house that we did not use and a small yard that would be great to use in warmer weather. Overall, it's a comfortable, cozy, vintage-style farmhouse perfect for families and/or friends. We would absolutely return. Thank you Matt and Dixie!

Great place in best location in Anderson

Great spacious house and cottages. Exactly as advertised. Owners were very responsive and sent me my deposit back immediately. Ideal for a large group of friends or family who are wine tasting or attending a wedding. Very clean and comfortable. Walking distance to the best restaurants. The hosts welcomed us with a bottle of wine and guides to many GREAT wineries which are right down Highway 128

Relaxing and Private

We stayed in the Creekside Cottage for 3 nights and attended the Pinot Festival in the Anderson Valley. The property is clean, well maintained and very private. Large deck facing a wooded area with the creek below. Lots of windows and great light. Plenty of trees to deflect any direct sun. Exceptionally clean and comfortable. Loved the comfortable bed and slept very well. Best value in the area! We hope to visit again next year during the Pinot Fest! Don't miss the Mosswood Cafe for an early morning breakfast. They open at 7:00 a.m. and the scones will melt in your mouth.

Boonvilla Getaway: Comfort, Location and Price!! Loved It!

I spent 4 nights in the Boonvilla cottage. It was up-to-date, exceptionally clean, modernly decorated and had lots of natural light. The floor plan was open and the bedding was very, very comfortable. The yard was enclosed by a privacy fence and had beautiful trees and flowering plants. I watched birds play from the comfortable cushioned chairs on the front porch. The location was perfect. The cottage is on a quiet side street in the center of town. It is the first behind the Boonville Hotel (excellent food!!) and I felt safe walking to all area restaurants/bars. The vineyards in the area are beautiful and the town is surrounded by lovely mountains and vineyards. The road to the shore leads through a gorgeous redwood forest. Picturesque Mendocino is an easy, scenic car ride away. I could not have stayed at a more lovely place. The price was exceptionally good and the warm, private, comfortable accomodations were exactly what I needed to get away from the world. The owners are very sweet, genuinely kind hosts. I spoke once with the cheerful Dixie. I was hosted by her husband Matt during my stay. They really take excellent care of the cottage and truly were concerned that I had a great stay. They even left a bottle of wine for me and water and snacks because they knew I had such a long travel (East coast). They thoughtfully left DVDs that they thought might interest me. They made sure I knew everything there was to do in the area and made good recommendations. They were only a phone call away for anything I needed. I really returned home feeling well-rested and brand new. I will definitely return and I highly recommend this cottage. I really believe I had the best accomodations in town: price, location, comfort! The only thing I would suggest is a little counter space in the bathroom but honestly I lived without it and wouldn't trade it for all the pluses of my stay!
