Very Instagrammable but doesn’t live up to the hype
The owner is great at communication, the check-in process was easy, and the description is accurate. We didn’t cook but the kitchen is well stocked. Beds were comfortable enough (and there are a lot of them, including a daybed in the living room next to the couch!).
However, some attention to detail is lacking — it’s an old house with lots of character, but it’s been updated inconsistently. (The current listing says it’s new and mine will be the first review but there’s visible wear and tear, carpet stains, wall nicks, etc. that indicate it’s gotten some use.) A few days of a handyman’s time would make a world of difference, but this is not a high-end house. We overpaid.
It is important to know that the neighborhood is undergoing a transition. Broadway (1.5 short blocks away) is very economically depressed, with a fair number of people who appear to be homeless; in the other direction are high-rises along the inter coastal. There are no businesses to walk to. We did not feel unsafe in the house by any means but did not feel comfortable walking around at night besides going to and from our car.
Finally, the Wi-Fi did not work at all for our 3 night stay and our cell service was terrible (AT&T), so we spent way too much time during the vacation working and doing homework from Starbucks (a 15 minute drive). The owner tried to fix it from afar but couldn’t; hopefully he will contract with a local support person to address problems like this that will inevitably come up.
