About this property
Eagle Vista - free additional night!
Potential guests must have at least two positive VRBO guest reviews on record. There are no exceptions to this rule. Please do not submit a booking request unless two guest review tell us at least that much about you.
Before reading the description below, first know that we offer a FREE NIGHT as long as it is a Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. There would still be single night nominal taxes and fees required by VRBO. To take advantage of this, FIRST send an inquiry message about the dates so we can work with you toward the NEXT step, an accurate booking request.
And now, presenting Eagle Vista!
At elevation 9,300, enjoy a wide, jaw-dropping view of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, snowcapped during much of the year. The wind sings through the pines and wildlife abounds. No mosquitos, just hummingbirds (seasonal)! We provide lots of info about fun places and experiences within striking distance. In the cabin is an eclectic collection of music, decor, games, puzzles, and books - much of that with an Old West theme.
It is not difficult to imagine being alone at the top of the world in the cabin, although there are neighbors several acres away. Eagle Vista is a solidly built, old-style cabin with glowing honey pine throughout. Luxuriously and comfortably rustic, the cabin is a work of art unto itself. Western art is on display inside, interesting and unique items down to almost every lamp and hook. It's just plain fun to see and experience! The six acres surrounding the cabin are a classic mountain combination of pines, sage, and beautiful boulders.
Please note that the second and third "bedrooms" in the loft are not officially separate rooms. Elsewhere in the listing we refer to them as "sleeping spaces." There is a partial divider wall. It feels cozy and private enough for family and friends. The fourth "bedroom" (sleeping space) is the pull-out sofa in the living room, a comfy queen size.
HOUSE MANUAL
We will share a keypad code and a detailed house manual 2-3 days before you arrive at Eagle Vista. A cabin experience is much different than city apartments and houses. We provide guidelines for safety and security, helpful tips about things in and around the cabin, and a lengthy "fun stuff" list of places and activities in the area. All this is our way of helping you be fully informed, assured, safe, and entertained for the best possible experience.
We have partnerships with Arkansas River Tours (rafting), Captain Zipline, and Royal Gorge Anglers. Explore those options far in advance and mention us for a 10% discount.
A few key things noted in our House Manual but helpful to emphasize up front:
- Absolutely and strictly no smoking inside.
- No outdoor fires due to wildfire danger (but there is a propane fire ring for your enjoyment).
- Two pets are welcome if they weigh under 80 pounds each, are housebroken, and never chew on or scratch things. Pets cannot be off-leash outside (safer for them and wildlife), and they cannot be left alone in the cabin unless in a closed kennel. We have a large kennel to loan if needed.

About the host
Hosted by John Harris
We enjoy travel, mountains, wildlife, hiking, canoeing, music, theatre, and other arts. Carpe diem!
Why they chose this property
Scenic beauty, private, quiet, wildlife
What makes this property unique
The cabin is eclectic, colorful, interesting, fun, and "rustic without roughing it." We think where you stay should be a big part of the travel experience, part of a cherished memory. We could have gone with a place that is much more generic and "run of the mill," but that is not us - and probably not you!
