About this property
Gorgeous Lake View, next to meadow, WiFi, Game Room, wildlife
Looking for your escape? Have fun playing in the game-room, taking in the incredible unobstructed views, and watching the wildlife venture by! We have WIFI internet, so you can stay connected during your get-away.
This beautiful, fully stocked home has an amazing view of Lake Cuyamaca and is a short drive to the historic gold mining town of Julian. The house features two queen beds and 4 twin beds. A large kitchen and dining area is ideal for cooking and gathering together with direct access to the redwood deck which stretches the front length of the house, great for enjoying the unobstructed views. Both the master bedroom and the loft have views of the lake. A fireplace is found in the family room, along with a HDTV, Roku media streamer in "guest mode" (you use your own streaming accounts), Blu-Ray/DVD player, and surround-sound audio system with bluetooth receiver. We have over-the-air HDTV and wireless internet, but not cable/dish. In the basement you will find the game room, where everyone wants to spend their time shooting pool, playing air hockey, foosball, a vintage Super Nintendo gaming system, or many of the table games. Younger kids will love setting up giant Brio train sets or using their imagination as they build fantasy worlds with the buckets of toys available to them.
A washer and dryer are also located in the basement.
The kitchen is fully stocked with all standard utensils, cookware, and appliances. Linens are also provided for your use.
We have central air and heating, but all times of the year offer something unique. Fall and winter are the most popular for the local San Diegans to visit the mountains due to the fall colors and 'Apple Days' in Julian, and the snow and cold weather that can come with winter. Spring can be beautiful as the hills turn deeply green and flowers are in abundance, and summer offers warm evenings that are easily spent on the deck marveling at all the stars which you just can't see from urban areas.
Please be aware that the cabin is on septic and the septic system cannot handle volume of use beyond the listed occupancy. We cannot accept requests for parties, wedding receptions, or any other gatherings of people for this reason.
There is also no refuse collection and the county closed the nearby dump - most residents carry their trash out with them when they go "down the hill". We are not a hotel, it can be days between guest departure and when housekeeping cleans. Trash left behind invites insects and bad smells if indoors, animals tear it apart if left outdoors. Thus, trash needs to be taken with you when you leave, which is not uncommon for cabin rentals. We have a powered trash compactor and provide bags, it does an amazing job of minimizing the size of your trash!

About the host
Hosted by Lori Hansen
Hello! We are Lori and Jeremy Hansen. We live about an hour away from this property with our three children who range in age from 16 through 22. When we're not busy with kids or work, we enjoy visiting the cabin for some peace and quiet and to just 'unplug' if only for a couple of days.
This property has been in Jeremy's family for almost 50 years - since the early 1970s. It's been witness to several generations of Hansen kids' visits, engagements, and honeymoons. It is a very special place to all of us.
We started renting it as a weekend vacation destination in the mid-90s but lost the original structure in the Cedar Fire of 2003 that ravaged Southern California and much of the Cuyamaca hillside.
By 2007, construction of the new and improved cabin was complete. We took some more time to furnish and decorate it just right. Once we felt it was ready to share, we resumed renting it. We are experienced hosts and we are excited to share our property with you!

Why they chose this property
Located above Lake Cuyamaca, the property offers a breath-taking view of the lake and Fletcher Island. The lake is within walking distance, where you can rent a row boat, motor boat, pedal boat; go fishing; enjoy lunch or dinner at the lake's restaurant; picnic; not to mention take one of the myriad of hiking trails and enjoy nature!
Nearby are the Laguna Mountains where, in late winter, snow is often blanketing the ground and providing you with opportunities to sled and build snowmen. The cabin sits at an elevation of 4,600ft which is often high enough for snow, as well. We have an excellent driveway for sledding, and even have sleds and snow toys available for your use!
Also nearby is the historic gold mining town of Julian where you will find more restaurants, apple pie, shopping, apple pie, local winery tasting rooms, apple pie, gold mine tours, and did I mention Julian's famous apple pies?!

What makes this property unique
We have open views and a meadow to the east, so you can experience wildlife without ever leaving the cabin. Keep an eye out for deer, wild turkey, and all varieties of birds - finch, hawk, bluejay, vulture, woodpecker, and more! In winter, the long, sloping driveway is great for sledding, and we always get more snow than Julian. Dusk or night hiking during summer, or seeing a billion stars in the sky (and the milky way) when the sun goes down are things you never forget. Even when the weather is harsh and stormy, opening up the big picture windows and seeing nature's fury coming through the mountain pass can be quite spectacular while sitting under a blanket with a fire roaring in the fireplace!
