About this property

Second Wind Mountain Cabin

The race of the everyday has a tendency to get even the best of us down, sending us forth to try to find a little reprieve. Come and catch your breath as you unwind in this lovely cabin for two. A stay here in our newly designed “Second Wind” will surely revive your spirit and mind. It combines the best of a stay in the woods with the comforts of home, a perfect rustic chic setting. The cabin affords the same space as the other one-bedroom cabins, but the open floor plan gives you room to stretch out and breathe. Drink in the sunlight filtering through the large wall of windows as you read that book you've been meaning to read or soak up the gorgeous view of the whispering forest and trickling stream. Soothe your aching muscles in the hot tub and allow your stress to melt away. “Second Wind” has everything you need to make sure you go back home refreshed, renewed, and rejuvenated, with the songs of the mountains in your head. This cabin features a queen bed, a gas stove, a hot tub, and a lovely view of the quiet forest.

Nothing short of amazing.

As always, Lydia Mountain was a perfect getaway. Cabin was exactly as advertised. Great little cabin. Deck and hot tub were perfect. Kitchen/bathroom were everything anyone would need. Customer service was exceptional. Restaurant provides great food and friendly, professional service. The grade going up to the cabin is a little steep at the end, would suggest AWD/4WD. Cabin does not have wifi. Didn't need it tbh. Reception/5G worked great.

Everything Falling Apart

Service and location was great; however, the lights, hot tub, kitchen cabinet, toilet seat, windows, and floor all had something that was falling apart or broken.

A Perfect Getaway

Truly enjoyed our quiet cabin - peaceful beyond belief. We drove to the lodge on several occasions for meals and each time were pleased with our selections. As we travel through this part of Virginia again we will be sure to book a return visit.

Great spot in the mountains for a chance to get away from the grind. Perfect layout and size for a couple. Everything you need and not much you don't. Not too far and not too close. Hot tub could use a little love as it is a bit weathered and could use some refreshing. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing place, great staff, will stay again!

We love staying here and will definitely book this cabin or another one again soon. Lodge and restaurant are fantastic, staff are helpful and the area is fun. A bit more attention needs to be paid to condition of appliances and HVAC units to ensure they are operational.

Great place

Thanks for letting us stay. The cabin was very nice, we haven’t watched a DVD in years! The only complaint we have is the mass amount of dead flies everywhere, even one dead on the bedspread. I would ask your cleaning crew to do something about that before a guest arrives. I also think that the cleaning a guest is requested to do is a little over the top. Lastly, a little warning of how the road to the cabin is would be helpful, someone in a little car most likely wouldn’t be able to make it up the hill w the condition of the road. Thanks again!

Second Wind: Cozy and Private

Second Wind Cabin, part of Lydia Mountain Lodge & Log Cabins: If you are looking for a place that feels truly remote without the hassle of traditional camping, this is it. While my cabin didn't have a long-range mountain view, it felt beautifully "nestled" in the woods. There is a small grassy clearing around the cabin so the forest doesn't feel like it’s pressing in, but you cannot see another soul or cabin in any direction. It felt more private and quiet than many campsites I've stayed at. Before I got there, they sent an email with the code and I had access right away without needing to go through a check-in process. Cabin Interior & Amenities: The interior was incredibly cozy and hit the perfect balance of "rustic but functional." It isn't "fancy-fancy," but it had everything I needed. - Kitchen: Well-stocked with the essentials (silverware, etc.). - Outdoor Space: The porch was a highlight, and the fire pit was delightful for evening hangouts. - Pet Friendly: Most importantly, the cats absolutely loved the space! Location & Logistics: The location is fantastic for hikers and explorers- Shenandoah National Park is only about a 15-minute drive to the park, and it is about 15–20 minutes to local towns for a Walmart run or restaurant food. There are many wineries nearby, although I didn’t get a chance to try out any on this visit. The Drive (Important Note!) I was initially nervous because several reviews mentioned needing a 4WD vehicle or a Jeep. I drive a Toyota Corolla Cross (a compact SUV) with no four-wheel drive, and I managed just fine. • Road Conditions: The roads are well-maintained with no major ruts or washboarding. It’s a mix of flat, winding, paved, and dirt roads. • The "Steep" Part: The last 300 feet or so is a fairly steep grade. In heavy rain or snow, I might have been nervous in a 2WD vehicle, but in clear weather, I went in and out multiple times with no issues. Final Thoughts It was a fantastic, low-stress getaway. You get the peace of the wilderness with the comfort of a nice bathroom and a real kitchen. I’ll definitely be back!
