About this property

Amazing Sunsets and Views 3 Minutes Outside Lake Placid

This 1800 sq ft home was built by my father in the late 60's. Both of my parents have passed away and after a bad experience renting it long term, my husband, kids and myself decided to gut it right out to the outer walls and start over again. It has been over a two year process. We finished it Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 It is located 5 miles from the trail heads to many of the Adirondack High Peaks. It also only a 3 minute drive from Lake Placid. It faces the west and is a sunset heaven. It also has awesome views of the Adirondacks from the bottom of the driveway. This property sleeps 6 and that number includes children and infants. Sorry, no pets.

My sons and I had an amazing time staying at this beautiful renovated property! I highly recommend it! It's 4 miles from Lake Placid and Mirror Lake, hiking trails, skiing, great restaurants, etc. Next time we are up in the Lake Placid area we will be staying here again. Beautiful property with lots of privacy.

Great home base for xc skiing

Our group came up for xc skiing and the lake placid loppet. Very convenient to multiple venues, and a lovely home.

Wonderful cabin

Great location for hiking and exploring the area. The cabin was spacious, with really comfortable beds and bedrooms and lots of room in the living area to relax and have group meals. Very memorable.

Really enjoyed staying at the Old Wheel. The whole family loved the aesthetic especially the loft. Great place to easily visit the Adirondack Loj and Lake Placid. Will definitely stay here again when we visit lake placid!

Great location near hiking and landmarks. Minutes drive from town. Cozy cabin with great history. Kids had a blast in the forest room with a loft bed.

The most perfect July 4th getaway

10/10 recommend this beautiful home! we spent our July 4th weekend here and we had the best time! the location is perfect if you want somewhere still close to town, but still gives you that ADK escape. The renovations were so well done and the whole place is stunning. we had everything we needed and a corner store close by if we needed it. Perfect location for two small kiddos. We plan on making this place a yearly tradition! :)

Cozy Cabin

The cabin is classic Adirondack and provided lots of space for for us to spread out and relax. The location is perfect for hikers whom wish to be at the “hub” of numerous trails yet only a short drive to Lake Placid where we had the choice of many good restaurants to grab a hearty meal to recharge our batteries after a day of hiking.

Loved this cabin!! It was so beautiful and rustic. Charming all around! Close to many places for hiking and watching the sunset on the LOJ road right next to the cabin. There was road noise but that did not take away from the experience! Thank you so much for the lovely stay!

Rustic retreat close to everything

We loved our stay at the Old Wheel. Our boys, ages 6 and 10, were absolutely enamored with the cabin and took turns sleeping in the loft. There's no TV, and they never even mentioned in -- there was so much to explore! This cabin is conveniently located near some of the most popular hikes in the area and is just down the street from Lake Placid.

Have lived in Lake Placid all my life. I own a bed and breakfast inside the village. When my work load lets up, I like to hike or ski and a good book is a great way to relax.

Why they chose this property

The property this house sits on have been in my family since 1866. I lived inside Lake Placid until I was 15 when we moved into this house. I love coming out of my driveway and seeing the different moods of the mountains and the sunsets.

What makes this property unique

The area is very quiet, beautiful and as i have mentioned above you can never get enough of the sunsets. Plus even though it is 3 miles out of town it is not that far from all the local activities.
