Secluded cabin with hot tub, heated floors, indoor and outdoor fireplaces
Life seems to slow down at The Steel Nest - a place of quiet forests, endless stars, and fireside nights on your own private mountaintop. Breathe deep and slow down - you've found the perfect spot to recharge and reconnect.
Follow the long, winding driveway to this hidden sanctuary. Whether you're seeking a quiet getaway together or a solo recharge, The Steel Nest is designed to help you unwind.
- Windows throughout the cabin blur the line between indoors and out, bringing the surrounding forest right into your living space. Set on over 10 private acres, you won’t see another home - just trees, sky, and stillness. - The living area invites you to slow down, with cozy seating gathered around a Morso wood stove and peaceful views in every direction. It’s the kind of space where mornings linger and evenings feel especially calm. - Radiant heated floors extend throughout the home, creating a gentle, consistent warmth that adds an extra layer of comfort in every season. - Indoor and outdoor living flow seamlessly here. Step onto the screened porch, unwind by the outdoor fireplace, or slip into the hot tub tucked privately among the trees. - The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need, whether you’re cooking a full meal or just starting your day - complete with cookware, pantry basics, and both Keurig and drip coffee options. - A handcrafted live-edge dining table creates the perfect spot for shared meals, slow breakfasts, or a cozy game night. - A half bath on the main level opens to a seasonal outdoor shower (typically closed November through March), offering a refreshing, nature-filled experience. - Just outside, a propane grill makes outdoor cooking simple and enjoyable.
Upstairs, the cabin’s two bedrooms offer a restful retreat:
- Primary Suite: A king-size bed with hotel-quality linens, soaring wood-beamed ceilings, and walls of windows that let you wake up with the trees. A small sitting area and Roku TV (the only TV in the cabin) complete the space. - Second Bedroom: A peaceful room with a queen-size bed, soft natural light, and the same attention to comfort and detail.
Full Bathroom: Located between the bedrooms, this space features heated tile floors, dual sinks, and a walk-in rainfall shower. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided.
What We Provide & What to Bring:
We’ve stocked the cabin with essentials to make your stay comfortable from the moment you arrive, including linens, towels, paper products, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. You’ll also find starter coffee supplies (K-cups, creamer, and sugar) along with a selection of basic pantry staples.
For longer stays, you may want to bring additional supplies to suit your needs, but what’s provided will comfortably get you started and often lasts through a long weekend or more. If you plan to enjoy the indoor wood stove or outdoor fireplace, please bring your own firewood.
A Note on Comfort & Mountain Living:
The cabin is designed to embrace its natural surroundings, with no air conditioning by intention. Thanks to the elevation, surrounding forest, and walls of windows, the space stays comfortably cool for most guests - even on warmer days - while evenings bring in crisp, refreshing mountain air.
This is a place to open the windows, listen to the sounds of nature, and experience the rhythm of warm days and cool nights. If you enjoy fresh air and a more connected, natural environment, you’ll feel right at home.
For those who prefer consistently cold, climate-controlled temperatures (especially for sleeping), this setting may not be the ideal fit. Here, comfort comes from the mountain breeze, not the thermostat.
To ensure The Steel Nest is the perfect fit for your getaway, please review the following details about the cabin's unique character:
- Embrace Nature: There are no window coverings in the cabin, allowing you to wake up with the natural light and fall asleep under the stars. - Hot Tub: We drain and refill the hot tub between each stay for cleanliness. It may take until the evening of your arrival for the water to reach its target temperature of approximately 102 degrees. - Mountain Air: The cabin does not have air conditioning. The cool mountain air and evening breezes typically keep the space comfortable, but please be aware that it can get warm on summer afternoons. - Unplug & Connect: There is no TV in the main living area to encourage connection and relaxation. The only TV is located in the primary bedroom. - Cozy Acoustics: The open design means sound carries between floors—perfect for conversation, but something to keep in mind for your group's privacy.
OUTDOOR CAMERA: There is an outdoor camera facing the parking area as well as a trail cam at the entrance gate. They are on 24/7 and can record video and sound.

This was the perfect cabin for a much-needed weekend away! It was so secluded and so quiet! The heated floors made the whole cabin feel like we were wrapped in a cocoon. Perfect for a cold winter weekend! The cabin is as beautiful as the surrounding forest. The host was lovely as well. We loved it and can't wait to come back!
Fantastic cabin! Very clean when we arrived and truely private, no neighbors in sight. The worst thing I could find was a light out above the grill. My wife will definitely be back to this cabin.
This is a hidden gem! We did not want to leave! The privacy and the sounds of nature made this place one we will continue returning to. The host was very kind and responsive. Thank you for a great time!
The Still Nest is just beautiful! My wife and I love to find new fun places to stay for overnight get away, but few check all the boxes for us. This place does though! Quite, hot tub, fire place, full kitchen, no close neighbors and uniquely decorated. We loved our stay and will defiantly be coming back. Thanks Alison!
What a wonderful and amazing house in an even more amazing location! If you are looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature this is definitely the place to be.
We love this property! Spend the day visiting and hiking at Mount Rogers and the evening relaxing in the hot tub. If you want to unplug and unwind, I highly recommend visiting the Steel Nest!
Our stay was amazing. The cabin was everything it was advertised to be and Alison ensure we had everything we needed to have a great weekend away. We’ll definitely be staying here again.
Awesome! Quiet, secluded setting was just what we wanted. Spent a lot of time in the screened in porch and the hot tub. Was worried with no AC in the middle of a hot July, but was comfortable especially at night with a nice breeze thru the many screened windows. Has everything you need, perfect vacation! (Also, make sure to see the wild horses)
It was a beautiful house. So peaceful and perfect for what I was looking for. It was our 25th anniversary. It was a great spot to reconnect. Would happily return one day.
Would recommend this stay again and again, it was a very fun experience. However the surrounding darkness in the woods is there. Be aware. It made it fun for me and my s/o. We had a blast being here.
Loved our fall stay in this gorgeous cabin. The indoor spaces were cozy and serene, with everything we needed for cooking simple meals at hand. Loved the outdoor spaces - grill, screen porch, fireplace area, and hot tub all wonderfully designed, in working order and easy to use with clear instructions provided. Owner was friendly and communicated throughout.
This cabin was everything we were looking for. Secluded and peaceful, it felt like we were truly tucked away in nature—but still close enough for great daytime hikes. The space was clean, serene, and thoughtfully designed with a beautiful blend of modern rustic charm and natural elements. We especially appreciated the small touches: warm floors to step onto in the morning, the refreshing mountain air gently blowing through the cabin, and a fully stocked kitchen that made it easy to cook almost every day. The hot tub was a dream after long hikes, and the bright, airy upstairs was a lovely place to unwind. This place strikes the right balance of comfort, style, and tranquility. We hope to return.
The house is very thoughtful in its construction. Simple ,Modern and rustic all.at once. Bocce ball court is a great addition we enjoyed playing. Trail around property was perfect for afternoon walks. We loved it. Oh and guitar was an added bonus as well.
What a wonderful property. If you want a stay in a work of art tucked on the side of a mountain this is your place. Everything you could need less food or clothing is provided including internet. We encountered one blip and the property owner immediately solved the problem, at 10 pm no less. The hot tub is icing on the cake and perfect after a day of hiking Mount Rogers. You will not find a nicer place to stay if planning a trip to Grayson Highlands State Park.
All I feel is relaxed, renewed, and a bit closer to nature after my stay here. From being greeted by a beautiful live small turtle in the gardens to having everything in the Steel Nest you could need, we were able to immerse ourselves in the serene surroundings without having to leave. The home is magical and really allowed us to be present and enjoy the sounds, sights, and energy of nature and the thoughtful, architecturally charming and impressive space, finishes, and co-exsistence of the modern home with the outdoors. The stay was bliss nonstop. I hope we can come back again to unwind, recharge, and feel the magic of this oasis.
