Farmhouse chic meets historical in this remodeled 19th-century home. Most people enjoy seeing antiques - and there are plenty in this wonderful home - but no one wants to sleep on an old mattress or actually have to use an outhouse. All the important things are new! A beautiful, modern, and spacious kitchen. Bathrooms that were strategically added and updated so that every bedroom has one (so no outhouses for you!) Central air conditioning and heat, Flat screen TVs and Wifi, and most importantly, super comfortable mattresses with luxurious cotton sheets. All of that matched with enormous antique wardrobes, glass lamps on doilies, and even a working Victrola. (Oh, that's a wind up record player to anyone under 80. What's a record player?... nevermind!) So, it's a little bit like a museum!
We are pet friendly. One dog per room max. The grounds are large, but not fenced.

This was the perfect place for our visit with family in Indiana. Beautifully decorated, plenty of room and bathrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. Convenient to everything we wanted to do and near several grocery stores.
Excellent communication from booking through check-in. Great outdoor seating areas to relax in the evenings. We enjoyed the homemade cinnamon rolls that Mary dropped off on the weekend.
Great place to spend time with family after all the Christmas celebrations. Our host Mary is a gem. She greeted us upon arrival with cookies and a smile.Home was clean and had everything we needed.Location was easy to find and we had plenty of parking.Would love to come back and enjoy the porch. Thanks for the memories Sutton House.
This place is so cool. Old architecture and decor with updated bathrooms and new comfortable beds. Very clean! Great communication from the host leading up to and during our stay. Would definitely stay their again.
We stayed at the Historic Sutton House to celebrate a birthday, which included attending a Notre Dame home football game. Although the location is a little more rural it was perfect for our purposes as it is a large property with an outdoor firepit that we used nightly. We were 8 adults with 1 3-year old so the 4 bedrooms with ensuite baths were perfect! Thank you for helping make this a special celebration!
This was the perfect house for my sisters and our husbands to relax, play games, eat and chat. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessities, the beds were comfortable and the house was super clean. We even arrived to a delicious plate of homemade cookies! The house itself is very unique and filled with beautiful vintage (but comfortable) furniture and objects. We had the good fortune of meeting the home’s owner who gave us a lovely and interesting view into the history of the home. WiFi was readily available and the house was pet-friendly. The house is on a somewhat busy road, but is adjacent to a quieter road, so walking our dog was easy and safe. There are plenty of restaurants (both fast food and dine-in) nearby and we ate at a couple of them. We enjoyed our stay here so much that we’re planning to return in the spring!
Because of holiday family plans, arrival at the property was much later than anticipated. Despite that, the property manager kindly met family members as they arrived late in the evening to welcome them and assist. We certainly felt that was going above and beyond the norm. The historic home is lovely.

Why they chose this property
How much more perfectly located could we be to enjoy the area known as Michiana? An idyllic farm setting just off of Interstate 80/90. Close to Notre Dame (17 miles). Close to Elkhart and South Bend. Close to Amish country of Middlebury (19 miles) and Shipshewana (27 miles). And on the Michigan side, perfectly located to enjoy Michigan wine country and the "Makers Trail". Also, only 44 miles to Warren Dunes State Park on the shore of Lake Michigan, and numerous fishing lakes and rivers in between.
What makes this property unique
There are a lot of things that make this home unique, from the 3 acres of lawns and gardens, to the mix of practical updates and vintage furnishings. From the huge kitchen and dining rooms, to having a private bathroom attached to every bedroom.
It is also ideal for certain types of events. Thanks to the size of the grounds and several partial camper hookups, it is available for weddings and family reunions. To use the outdoor space for events there will be an additional fee of $500 for every 50 people or portion thereof. The renter will also be responsible for providing portable bathroom facilities for guests (1 porta-potty per 50) Renter is responsible for all chairs, tables, decor, etc. No items from the house to be used outdoors.
Please note that we are not interested in hosting events that would be considered disruptive to the neighborhood and that would fall outside the terms of the booking service that you use.
