About this property
Entire Victorian House, Large Yard, Fire Pit, Walk to Lake, Patio, Yard Games
The beauty of old homes is that they have been cared for through generations and boast old oak wood interiors, ambience and joy, and magical nooks (under the stairwell there is a play + sleeping area for kids, an oval window in a bedroom, stained glass windows in many rooms). Add to this that it is 2 blocks to Lake Pepin, 4 city parcels of land, with plenty of room to park a boat, let kids play, gardens with fresh organically grown flowers and vegetables, AND modern conveniences in every room!
Ideal for families, groups wanting a get away for fishing, golf or skiing, and small events (maximum of 15 people).
Imagine having a long birthday weekend in a beautiful Victorian, Celebrating holidays, family reunions, baby showers, bridal parties, and many other gatherings.
Getting together with friends and family and having plenty of room to cook, play games, go fishing or sailing or golfing, and spending time together relaxing and enjoying time together in a beautiful surrounding.
It's the experiences in life we share together that matter most. :)

HISTORY of our HOUSE
This completely renovated Victorian with persian rugs and stained-glass windows was built in 1908 for the daughter of a man who invented better parts for a steamboat engine when the Mississippi was a hub of transport to bring Red Wing pottery to the entire country. Then it was cared for by an Air Force pilot who then went on to get a PhD at University of Minnesota in Agriculture. His thesis topic was "effective business models for small farms"! There is still an old barn|house on the acre property that served as a little red school house, then the fire house for the town, and now is in the process of also being restored.
WHY ARE THERE COTTAGE GARDENS? (part of your yard is a garden?)
Given the history of early American and the Victorian era, we have worked to regenerate some of the land to have cottage gardens full of heirloom and heritage vegetables and flowers that are open pollinated. This was known as "cottage" gardening during the 1920-30s when people (including my grandmother) would grow vegetables and flowers in the yard.
the FUTURE
In the next few years we are putting together an interactive tour that you can take during your stay so that learning about Victory Gardens, Heirlooms and Americans history with agriculture is fun and part of your stay! We look forward to this once the house is up and running and providing this type of living, historical legacy of American cottage gardens and heirloom seeds.
We hope you enjoy your stay at this beautiful Queen Anne Victorian we have lovingly cared for.

About the host
Hosted by Jennifer
I grew up in Minnesota in an old Victorian house, and through the years I have wanted to take a moment in my life to work on another Victorian house like I did as a kid.
Why they chose this property
Lake Pepin is an area of legends from the first Native Tribes to Laura Ingalls Wilder. It is also the most dramatic of landscapes and high geological interest in Minnesota. That seems super interesting.
What makes this property unique
This old house has so many interesting details and a lot of land and is near the water. The house is interesting for it's history, the old-growth wood throughout the home, and how much comfort and quietness it gives in a really busy world.
