About this property
Crooked Lake lakefront Cabin in the Amish Hills
This is our family cabin on Crooked lake, and we rent it out for part of the summer months. It was built in the 1950’s by the Erb lumber founder. This is a quiet and beautiful lake with a fantastic, ever-changing view in the heart of the Amish rolling hills. Loons, Herons and eagles are common here, and I'm sure you'll see lots of other wildlife. Den of foxes 100’ away. I’ve seen bobcat, wolverine, foxes, eagle, bear and of course lots of deer. This a clean, spring fed no-wake 90 acre lake, and there is good fishing as well (Largemouth, Crappie, Sunfish, Bluegills, Rock Bass, and Perch. Some huge Pike.). It's located on the end of a cul-de-sac, so nothing but woods on one side (a couple hundred acres). We spend most of our time on the deck enjoying the lake, or down near the water or on it. Inside the cabin, I'm sure you'll find it spacious (around 1300 square feet). It has an open floor plan, and is full of contemporary Michigan art from downstate. The master bedroom is quite large, and the other two bedrooms are somewhat smaller. The master has a king sized bed. BR2 has a bunk bed in it, and BR3 has a full sized bed. The bathroom is average sized with a tub and shower and is freshly updated. Everything is clean and functional. There is a television with DVD player, and a decent sized library of DVD movies. There are 800 movies on a Raspberry Pi as well. Smart tv with streamed Netflix etc. Fast fiber optic internet. Sit on the deck and work remote if you’d like. Boats: A small motorboat with electric trolling motor, a canoe, two kayaks and a floating waterpatio come with the cabin. Viking Marine will rent/deliver a pontoon boat for your stay if you want, but you'll have to arrange it with them. They do all the drop off, pick up and launch work for you. There is a dock in front of the property, and you're welcome to bring your own boat and tie up. A lot of people do this. Launch across the bay at Mitchell state park, they have a cement ramp.
In general our rentals are for full weeks minimum and we prefer Saturday to Saturday. We may make an exception in off season, but not in full season. It's a 3BR 1 bath cabin. It'll sleep 6 in a pinch, but I prefer to keep it to 4 adults max. I like people to be comfortable and happy. The third BR is bunk beds, and adults won't be happy on them. If you have a pet, it needs to be well behaved. Please.

Great property with everything we needed for our trip. Was able to catch some good sized Bass and a variety of other pan fish . Very quiet area on a private road.
This is my 4th stay at this piece of heaven. We will never camp anywhere else. This feels like our 2nd home. So peaceful. You are able to leave the world behind you and just relax in nature. Great fishing. The host is kind and feels like an old friend. Highly recommend this cabin!
Loved staying here with my family. We spent a lot of time swimming in the lake then sat by the fire making smores. It's a nice and quiet lake. Ray was a great host.
There is a deck in the back that is perfect for drinking coffee and taking in the views of the lake.
We had a great week at Ray’s cottage. The lake is crystal clear, very calm & peaceful, and the fishing is excellent. The cottage is nice and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Thanks again Ray!!
Peaceful, tranquil, wonderful communication with owner. Great fishing. Wildlife abounds. Will continue to rent here for as long as I can. I love it here!
We have family in Curran and wanted to spend time with them this fall. We rented Ray's cabin for a few weeks and really had quality time with them. The cabin is perfect for making memories and we enjoyed our time! Very comfortable and well appointed. Ray is a great host and you will not be disappointed in the cabin.
We had a wonderful time. A perfect vacation from COVID. Everything was nice and clean and the property was quiet, private, and exactly as described. Thanks again!!!
Spent a very peaceful week with family. Biking, kayaking, fishing and exploring the surrounding areas. Unique cottage is clean and comfortable. Ray was very attentive as a host. Checking in to see if we needed anything. We will definitely return.
Stayed with 3 adults for a week, I spent most of my time on the dock or pontoon boat fishing. Had a great time and caught lots of big bluegills and small bass. It was a great time. Owner/Manager was attentive and made a courtesy call shortly after we arrived.
We enjoyed a nice week at the cabin. Really nice setup. Enjoyed the water toys and fires at night ! No wake lake was good for the kayaks. No issues - great place! Excellent comm. with owner, A+
Thanks!
The scenery was beautiful! The fish weren't very cooperative! But we caught enough for 2 suppers! Yummy!

Carol was great, and I would certainly rent to her again. Looks like vrbo's interface screwed up and gave her single stars when I definitely clicked 5 stars across the board for her. I'll call customer support in India.
We spent a relaxing week on beautiful Crooked Lake. Fishing, canoeing, campfires (so many stars!), exploring and a lot of R&R! We saw plenty of deer and wild turkey. There was a mama and fawn down by the lake the last morning of our stay. We were also visited by a pair of pileated woodpeckers one afternoon! And the loons were so beautiful to watch and listen to! Cozy cabin with all of the creature comforts. We most definitely enjoyed our week and slept better than we have in awhile. Very peaceful and tranquil.

Thanks Micki. The Pileated is an insanely large woodpecker. They seem to enjoy the woods around the cabin.
Nice quiet lake. Cottage had everything we needed. The cottage stayed cool even though the temperature outside hit 90 degrees several days.
Enjoyed spending time on the deck and fishing in the lake. We caught bluegill, rock bass, and 13-14 inch large mouth. The fishing boat with a motor was really great. We also canoed around the lake. There was so little boat traffic it was like we had the lake to ourselves.
Good ice cream at the dairy in Mio. Our dogs loved retrieving balls from the lake.
We really enjoyed our week stay at this unique lake cottage tucked away in a corner of the woods. We spent many hours enjoying the beautiful lake view from the deck surrounded by the trees listening to the call of the loons. We saw lots of wildlife during our stay, including several eagles, deer, hummingbirds, squirrel and three cute little foxes that live on the property. My husband spent many hours fishing on the lake. The house itself is very homey and comfortable. We enjoyed looking at all the art and unique objects decorating the walls. It truely has a family lakehouse feel. Our two goldens enjoyed all the swimming they got to do right from the property. We visited several lighthouses and beautiful state parks within about an hours drive from the cabin. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are planning to come back again.

About the host

I'm an engineer at a firm in Oakland County, and have lived in the area for 40 years. We're new to renting a cabin, but we'll do our best to accommodate you.
Why they chose this property
We bought this cabin for the great view and waterfront access and beach. About an acre of land, butting up to hundreds of acres of woods. The cabin was built by the owner of a hardware store chain, and we were impressed by the design and quality of construction. We love this area, and have been coming to this lake for almost 25 years.
What makes this property unique
The cabin is at the end of a cul-de-sac, so nothing but woods on one side, and of course the lake. Chances are you won't see any neighbors. Huron National Forest and the AuSable river are just a few miles away, with hundreds of miles of trails for hiking or ORV. A canoe, kayak and a fishing boat come with the cabin. There is an electric trolling motor in the shed for the aluminum boat. Excellent fishing around Crooked. There is ORV trailhead nearby in McKinley, and that trail system runs all across the state. You can get away with riding your ORV to McKinley if you take the Hardy Grade road as it’s dirt and not well traveled. There are a lot of animals in this area. Bobcat, bear, wolverine, fox, eagle, loons. If you’re driving at dusk, be careful! Fox den visable from the deck.
