About this property

Crooked Lake lakefront Cabin in the Amish Hills

This is our family cabin on Crooked lake, and we rent it out for part of the summer months. It was built in the 1950’s by the Erb lumber founder. This is a quiet and beautiful lake with a fantastic, ever-changing view in the heart of the Amish rolling hills. Loons, Herons and eagles are common here, and I'm sure you'll see lots of other wildlife. Den of foxes 100’ away. I’ve seen bobcat, wolverine, foxes, eagle, bear and of course lots of deer. This a clean, spring fed no-wake 90 acre lake, and there is good fishing as well (Largemouth, Crappie, Sunfish, Bluegills, Rock Bass, and Perch. Some huge Pike.). It's located on the end of a cul-de-sac, so nothing but woods on one side (a couple hundred acres). We spend most of our time on the deck enjoying the lake, or down near the water or on it. Inside the cabin, I'm sure you'll find it spacious (around 1300 square feet). It has an open floor plan, and is full of contemporary Michigan art from downstate. The master bedroom is quite large, and the other two bedrooms are somewhat smaller. The master has a king sized bed. BR2 has a bunk bed in it, and BR3 has a full sized bed. The bathroom is average sized with a tub and shower and is freshly updated. Everything is clean and functional. There is a television with DVD player, and a decent sized library of DVD movies. There are 800 movies on a Raspberry Pi as well. Smart tv with streamed Netflix etc. Fast fiber optic internet. Sit on the deck and work remote if you’d like.
Boats: A small motorboat with electric trolling motor, a canoe, two kayaks, a stand up paddleboard, and a floating waterpatio come with the cabin. Viking Marine will rent/deliver a pontoon boat for your stay if you want, but you'll have to arrange it with them. They do all the drop off, pick up and launch work for you. There is a dock in front of the property, and you're welcome to bring your own boat and tie up. A lot of people do this. Launch across the bay at Mitchell state park, they have a cement ramp.

In general our rentals are for full weeks minimum and we prefer Saturday to Saturday. We may make an exception in off season, but not in full season. It's a 3BR 1 bath cabin. It'll sleep 6 in a pinch, but I prefer to keep it to 4 adults max. I like people to be comfortable and happy. The third BR is bunk beds, and adults won't be happy on them. If you have a pet, it needs to be well behaved. Please.
There are pro grade binoculars next to the sliding door to the deck so you can birdwatch. Please not for children.

I'm an engineer at a firm in Oakland County, and have lived in the area for 40 years. We're new to renting a cabin, but we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Why they chose this property

We bought this cabin for the great view and waterfront access and beach. About an acre of land, butting up to hundreds of acres of woods. The cabin was built by the owner of a hardware store chain, and we were impressed by the design and quality of construction. We love this area, and have been coming to this lake for almost 25 years.

What makes this property unique

The cabin is at the end of a cul-de-sac, so nothing but woods on one side, and of course the lake. Chances are you won't see any neighbors. Huron National Forest and the AuSable river are just a few miles away, with hundreds of miles of trails for hiking or ORV. A canoe, kayak and a fishing boat come with the cabin. There is an electric trolling motor in the shed for the aluminum boat. Excellent fishing around Crooked. There is ORV trailhead nearby in McKinley, and that trail system runs all across the state. You can get away with riding your ORV to McKinley if you take the Hardy Grade road as it’s dirt and not well traveled. There are a lot of animals in this area. Bobcat, bear, wolverine, fox, eagle, loons. If you’re driving at dusk, be careful! Fox den visable from the deck.
