Great place to stay!

The cottage was great for our week at the lake. It was clean and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The view of the lake from the kitchen was beautiful. The paddle boat and paddle board kept the kids busy for hours. It’s a great place to stay!

Peaceful and comfortable

Our stay was great - comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen and beautiful lake views. We were there off season and it was wonderfully peaceful and quiet. Proximity to wonderful pie is a great bonus, and it’s easy to get into Fennville, Saugatuck and Douglas if wanted. The owners are very responsive to questions.

Wonderful getaway!

The cottage is wonderful! We stayed here for a girls weekend getaway. The lake view is fantastic, the hot tub was amazing and the house had more than enough room for the 6 of us. It had everything we needed - very clean and well maintained. The owner checked in to make sure we didn't need anything, very nice! It was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend!

Mother/Daughter weekend

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Cottage at Hutchins Lake. It was perfect for our mother-daughter weekend getaway. The kitchen was well stocked, comfortable sleeping arrangements and the couches were cozy and accommodating for our party of 7. We enjoyed soaking up the sun on the dock and relaxing in the hot tub in the evening. Proximity to Saugatuk, Douglas and Fennville was prime. We would book this home again!

Wonderful weekend

The cottage is beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. Friends joined us for a weekend of gallery openings and music at Gentleman Jack's (south of Fennville). We had great weather to enjoy the deck and short drives to Saugatuck and Douglas. Even closer is Salt of the Earth restaurant in Fennville - have a meal here is you can. This was our first time, and hope to plan another stay in the future.

Enjoyable experience right off the lake

First words that come to mind when you first walk in to this delightful home is WOW. Definitely provides great views in a comfortable setting. You can tell that the owners take great pride in offering you a quality getaway experience. There are several wineries within 3 miles of the property, which I would definitely encourage you to visit while staying here. Everything you need is there for a romantic getaway or a nice vacation with the family. Will definitely be putting this on the list of places to visit again.

It was great to be back...

This was our second time staying at The Cottage and just as the first time we were definitely not disappointed. Very clean, perfect lake house for us and our 5 kids (13, 10, 6, 4, 2). Jeff and Becky were perfect hosts making sure we had everything we needed. New dock was a huge hit with the kids, so easy to get in/out of the lake and perfect for fishing with all kids at the same time. Very close to local amenities and Holland is only 15/20 minutes away. Wouldn’t consider another house on Hutchins Lake...period!

Beautiful Home and Great Experience!

Some friends and I rented Jeff & Becky's place hoping for a relaxing new years eve weekend. We got it! The hot tub was perfection in the freezing weather, and the house had plenty of sleeping space for all of us. We loved the open concept living room and kitchen - it let us all hang out together while cooking and relaxing. Jeff gave lots of suggestions for local places to go and was very fast to respond to any questions we had. On the last day we asked for an extra hour to hang and get on the road and Jeff gave us three :) Very nice to not be rushed out. Overall it was a great experience and the lake was BEAUTIFUL - we are thinking about coming back up in the summertime to enjoy swimming in it. Thanks for a wonderful time!

A great getaway!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cottage. The cottage is clean and is nicely updated with a great kitchen and nice bathrooms. Comfy beds too! And the new hot tub is a perfect spot to watch the amazing stars at night. Hutchins Lake is a hidden gem. It is very clean and warm for swimming. We were glad we brought some rafts/tubes for floating around during the afternoon. The kayak was a fun way to explore as well. The Fennville area is a great location. There is a grocery store and basic necessities in Fennville but also easy access to Saugatuk (15 min away) to watch sunset over Lake Michigan and access more restaurants and shops, etc. The best restaurant in the area is actually right in Fennville ....Salt of the Earth. It's expensive, but worth it . We had a great week and would highly reccomend the cottage!

Lovely weekend get away

We very much enjoyed our time at the Cottage -- the location is perfect -- you are on a lovely little lake but also incredibly close to the Lake Michigan coast and both Saugatuck and South Haven -- the best of all worlds! The home itself was very comfortable for our family for four. It was the off season so we can't speak to the lake itself, but we had fun in the hottub and out on the deck. It looked like there might not be a fire pit -- not an issue for our family since we were there in early April, but worth noting. One head's up -- we got a long list of house essentials we were expected to provide ourselves that was much more extensive than any other rental we have stayed in (for example, toilet paper and hand soap). We packed up everything on the list which was a bit of a production, and then nearly everything on the list was actually stocked in the house. Jeff and Becky were great with communication and provided wonderful suggestions on things to do/see in the area and places to get food. We would absolutely love to come back!

30th Birthday

Myself and four girlfriends drove up to Fennville for the weekend to celebrate my 30th Birthday and it surpassed all my expectations. The photos of this hidden gem does not do it justice. From the moment we arrived at the cottage we were taken away by the beautiful scenery. The home was absolutely charming and it’s open concept, view of the lake, cleanliness, deck and grill...all perfection. We spent an entire day at the Fennville Winery (highly suggest!) and had dinner at Salt of the Earth (suggested by Jeff and Becky) which was amazing! We even met some of the neighbors who were so nice! The weekend was absolute perfection! The only negative thing was that we struggled getting the tv/dvd player turned on...so we played charades instead :) I would definitely come back again and suggest this home to anyone (I already have to many at work!) it’s the perfect weekend getaway. Thank you again to Jeff and Becky they were amazing in answering all questions and provided me with a detailed emailed in preparation for our arrival.

Picture Perfect

We enjoyed an absolutely wonderful week at the Lake Hutchins house. The house was as lovely as it appeared in the pictures; very clean and comfortable. The panoramic lake view is so serene, whether early in the morning or with the setting sun it is just beautiful. The lake house has every comfort of "home", whether it be to cook, to sleep, or to enjoy a moment with a book in front of the fire. We used the row boat a few times and I imagine if it had been warmer we would have used the boat/kayak more. The hot tub on the patio was an added plus especially in the cool misty Michigan air and of course with the lake in the background. The lake house is in a great location for day trips to Lake Michigan and the parks for some hiking, cute towns like Saugatuck and Holland. We just happened to have our stay fall on the Tulip Festival week in Holland, how lucky! The other pleasant surprise were the beautiful flowering apple and cherry trees surrounding the lake house which belong to the Crane Orchard, they were in full bloom and in all their glory during our week. We enjoyed a local brewery and winery and had a great day trip to Grand Rapids and the Meijer Gardens. This was a family get together for us and the lake house was truly a Home Away from Home. I highly recommend it!

Loved The Cottage! Amazing views, clean & modern lake home.

Million dollar view! Our family spent a week in July at The Cottage and had a fantastic time. The property inside was very clean, modern, and the beds were super comfortable. Plenty of space in inside as there are two bedrooms, plus a loft with two beds and also a three season room (our kids called it the "lake room!) which has a pullout couch and another bed. Jeff and Becky were fantastic hosts! Very responsive and they pointed us in the direction to great restaurants like Salt of the Earth, Oval Beach to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan, and great shopping in Saugatuck. We really enjoyed the peacefulness of the area as the property is located on a very quiet street and backs up to the corn and apple trees of Crane's Orchard. Gas station, grocery store, and pharmacy and just 3 minutes away in Fennville which was great when we needed to grab something quick. The best part was the AMAZING VIEW of Hutchins Lake. Perfect to wake up to every morning and enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck. Watching shooting stars at night from the hot tub wasn't bad either :) Hutchins is one of the cleanest lakes we've seen in Michigan, spring fed with sand bottom. Fishing was great and my son caught lots of bass right off the dock. We are booking again next year! Thank you

Severe mice infestation, old non-working appliances

Unfortunately, we had a terrible stay at the cottage. There was a severe mice infestation - to the extent that we watched multiple mice run across the kitchen floor in front of us, more than once. Every morning, we woke up to everything covered in mouse poop on the counters and in the cabinets. The refrigerator had a significant leak, and soaked all of our food. The dishwasher wasn't able to finish a cycle our entire week there, and the dryer sounds like it has rocks in it - we couldn't run it after our toddler fell asleep. The grill wouldn't get above 325 degrees, despite having a half full propane tank. While the bathrooms were clean, everything else had a thick layer of dust when we arrived. The owners very kindly sent a pest company to the house, but the traps never caught the mice while we were there and the issue remained unresolved. We were told that this is what happens in a rural area, and the homeowners are now unresponsive to our concerns. I would not recommend you stay here. We paid a significant amount of money to be surrounded by mice, mouse poop, and non-working appliances. It was a pretty terrible vacation. We would recommend that any further guests sanitize every single item in the kitchen before using it.

Wonderful Little House On The Lake

We really enjoyed our time at this cozy house on Lake Hutchins. It's clean, it's comfortable, and the hot tub will give everyone something to do even if the weather doesn't go your way. I will say, if you're bringing many kids, you might have to get creative with where you put them if you go to bed long after them. But otherwise I'd say the kids will love it too!

Great Fall getaway!

We were looking for a great spot for a long fall break weekend, and we are so glad we found this one! Right upon entry we were impressed with the open floor plan and cleanliness. We enjoyed sunsets in the hot tub, and loved the view of the lake. We even spotted a Bald Eagle that flew over and perched nearby. The kitchen had everything we needed, we cooked most meals at the house. The owners were so helpful in recommending some sights. We enjoyed Mt. Baldhead park and the view, Oval beach, Saugatuck dunes state park, and strolling through shops in Saugatuck. Salt of the Earth restaurant close to the house in Fennville was amazing! Highly recommend. It was a great weekend to “get away” yet be near lots of fun!

Loved our stay at The Cottage

We just returned from an extended weekend at The Cottage and we are already thinking about returning. We had five adults in our party and everyone was comfortable. We enjoyed the peaceful lake view and quiet neighborhood. We also took advantage of the nearby wineries, cider taproom, farm stands and fun towns. The Cottage has everything one needs for a great visit including an exceedingly well-stocked kitchen. Jeff answered our questions quickly and provided lots of helpful information and suggestions. Highly Recommend.

Winter Getaway

Our family had a great time at this house on the lake. Since this was an off season visit, it was very quiet. Our kids loved playing in the snow and on the frozen lake. We had reason to avail ourselves of local emergency services during our stay. The people of this area were kind, funny and accommodating. The house has everything you would need to cook for a family. We found the place to be comfortable and cozy.

Why they chose this property

"The Cottage" is on the best part of the 375 acre lake. Nestled in a large cove, you get to enjoy calm waters, great fishing, and a superior view of the lake. Our home also backs up to Crane's Orchard which provides a great view of the fruit trees, giant corn maze and a short walk to sample some of their world famous fruit pies. On the other side of the lake is the Fenn Valley Vineyard and Winery which was one of the original Southwest Michigan Wineries. Great place to sample a variety of wines and take your favorite bottle home to enjoy lakeside.

What makes this property unique

We want your time at "The Cottage" to be a memorable one where you can relax and reconnect. Recently we've added a HOT TUB to the outdoor deck for the ultimate in relaxation. The property was remodeled in 2014 and includes granite countertops, fully renovated bathrooms, and a three season porch. We've provided all the ammenities you will need for your stay such as all kitchen item, bedding, towels, and WIFI internet access.
