Idyllic ADK Camp in Perfect Location

Comfortable, clean, something for everyone. We rented a pontoon boat and easily accessed it from the sandy shore. I’ve stayed in many rental properties, and this one is among the best.

Great place, nice lawn that goes directly down to the sandy shore. Nice screened porches for sitting peacefully. Bedrooms extremely small. Couldn't get TV working (it wouldn't connect to the internet). No boat, no dock. Owners VERY nice. Would stay again.

Wonderful place, great views

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful lakeside property! The location was perfect, offering stunning views of the lake and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The house was spacious, clean, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We especially loved the large deck where we could enjoy our morning coffee while taking in the breathtaking scenery. The property had plenty of activities to keep us entertained, from kayaking and fishing on the lake to hiking nearby trails. Perfect!

The pictures don't do this cabin justice! Our toddler loved the trundle bed and the private beach and shallow waterfront access was exactly what we were looking for. The owners met us there and showed us everything we needed to know, even providing some breakfast items including some amazing scones! Definitely somewhere we would return. Thank you!

Beautiful house and great location

Marjie and Jim were a pleasure to work with. They were there when we arrived to answer all our questions and even had some yummy baked goods ready prepared for us. The house is as shown in the pictures. Our boys loved playing on the beach front. The house was a quick drive to the village of Speculator where we visited some cute gift shops, ate some good meals and explored the nature trails. All and all a great week. Thank you!

Great family get away!

We had a great week at Compass Loj. We loved the location, the views, and the home. The home was perfect for our family of four. Our toddler loved the beach and the lake was shallow/Sandy for her to enjoy the water all day. The property was in mint condition. We loved how cozy the house was and really enjoyed using our DVDs to hang out at night after a long day of exploring the area and being outside. The hosts were fantastic—great communication, very friendly, and greeted us at check in with fresh scones! The best spot in the house is the three season room. We spent so much time there. The house has all you need for a weeks stay and only a short drive from town for groceries. We can’t wait to go back to make more memories!

Highly Recommend - Incredible Vacation Spot!

Everything was perfect! The owners had freshly made scones waiting for us, along with some food in the refrigerator to tide us over until we made the trip to Charlie John’s. They are lovely people! The house, yard and beach were immaculately maintained. They clearly keep their renter’s needs in mind, which is seen in the details they provide. The house is so cozy and comfortable, and having our own beach from which to set off in our kayaks was a major plus. I’m already missing the back room which looks out over the lake! Every aspect of this stay was delightful, and we look forward to returning!

Absolutely amazing

The view was incredible! The house was clean and roomy. The owners were incredible. They had us stocked with basics and a baked treat! The provide many of the basic needs -toilet paper napkins, paper towels so packing for a family of 4 while pregnant was much easier. We enjoyed our week very much and look forward to visiting and booking this house again.

Beautiful Lake Cottage

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Compass Loj on Lake Pleasant. It had been years since we had been to Lake Pleasant and it was just as beautiful as ever. The cottage was spotless and our hosts were very gracious. A true Adirondack cottage with a few wonderful additions over the years... 2 extra porches with gorgeous views, a beautiful deck... and my favorite was a "she-shed" right down by the beach. So many spots to enjoy the view, read a book or work on the jigsaw puzzle. LOL We had some rain so managed to do 4 puzzles during our week! 5 stars!! Almost forgot to mention!! The bed was VERY comfortable!!

Our kids (aged 8 and 11) are obsessed with the water—they'd swim and dive all day if they could—and we sought out a rental specifically for that purpose. We wanted to find a comfortable house with easy access to a lake that was nice to swim in, and the Loj fit the bill perfectly! Our family spent a very restful week there, which is another way of saying the four of us were all feeling pretty lazy by the end of the summer, and we did very little other than swim, check out local eateries, and play board games. You might view our laziness + willingness to just stay put at the Loj as a testament to its many charms. The view from the cabin toward the lake really is lovely. I'd never been to the Adirondacks before and wasn't sure if the lack of A/C in the cabin would be a problem—it wasn't, you don't need it. The weather cooperated for us; during the day it was warm enough to get in the water and enjoy it, and at night cool enough to keep the cabin comfortable all day as long as we opened windows at the right time. We only had one really rainy day, so every other day we had both morning and afternoon swim time. The big screened-in porch facing the lake was our favorite spot. My husband drank coffee there every morning, watching the fog clear and the mountains come out. I read and wrote there all week, and the kids played games and did art projects at the table when they weren't in the lake. (It's a really nice lake for swimming, especially for younger kids/beginning swimmers due to how shallow it is, but thanks to the hosts for recommending water shoes; the bottom of the lake was a little muddy.) Marjie and Jim are wonderful and responsive hosts who really go the extra mile to answer any questions and help you feel at home. They were also kind enough to stock the fridge with a few basics before we arrived—we greatly enjoyed the fresh-baked scones, eggs and bacon our first morning! When I couldn't find a teakettle, Marjie brought one over from where she and Jim were staying (they also own the neighboring property; they aren't there all the time, though). And though we did our best to pack up and clear out, we did manage to leave a few items behind (including my daughter's tooth, which she lost while we were there!), and Marjie found and kindly mailed them all to us. This was really the perfect vacation for us. We wanted to find a place where we could find a lot of activities if we wanted them, but pretty and peaceful enough where we could also choose

Great view and relaxing atmosphere

We loved the house, view, furniture, sun porch and yard for playing badminton. The only downside was that we felt the lake bottom was a bit mucky and the gradual depth made for difficulty swimming. Would be better for younger children. Otherwise, a wonderful property and quiet, peaceful setting.

Fantastic week and beautiful home

We loved our time at Compass Loj. It is a beautiful home in a beautiful location, and is kept in very good condition. Easy access to lots of area attractions. We slept well at night and loved getting up in the mornings to an incredible view across the lake. The grassy backyard and beach access were also greatly appreciated. Highly recommend this site!

Memorable Vacation

My grandchildren's safety was uppermost in my mind when I chose this vacation property and it did not disappoint. The swimming area is shallow and expansive with soft sand underfoot. The yard is large, green and level. The house itself is clean and lovely. My husband and I enjoyed our week at Compass Loj, and we hope our grandchildren will remember it fondly.

Had a wonderful week at Jim and Marjie's cabin with our two children ages 4 and 6. The views were spectacular, house comfortable and extremely well-equipped, and beach perfect for playing all day! The kids loved the bunk room, there was plenty of hot water for showers and great sunroom overlooking the lake. The Loj is just a short drive to Speculator for shopping and there is plenty of hiking etc. in the area. Melody Lodge has great food and a beautiful view, but make sure you have your reservations in advance! Hope to return in the future!

This was a second visit for our family, and continued to be a treat for everyone. The weather was outstanding all week - especially for the Adirondacks! Our 3 and 10 year old grandkids practiced swimming and kayaking in the shallow swim area in front of the camp. Our daughter went for an 8 mile morning run each day and the quiet road and hills provided a perfect place for her. Meanwhile, I enjoyed more sedate activities including watching a pair loons that were out front for several days. The property is immaculate and well furnished, and the owners are a text away to answer any questions that should pop up.

Great lakebouse on Lake Pleasant!

My wife and I and our 2 children (age 5 & 2) stayed at the Compass Loj for a beautiful week in July 2018. Jim and Marjie met us upon arrival and gave us a quick tour and then we were off to play on the soft grass, adjacent beach and splash in the clear water. The Loj is close to town for any supplies you might need, the sun porch with its series of sliding doors is a great respite and the small bonus "lakehouse" a perfect spot for happy hour. Enjoyed evening campfires and grilling on the deck. We would recommend the Loj to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing stay in the Adirondacks!

Beautiful Home, Great Lake, Peace and Quiet

The pictures do not do it justice. The home feels much larger than it is (and it is big), which makes it substantially bigger than the pictures. All the doors open in the Flordia room, offering a cool breeze on summer nights. The bathroom was brand new. And, ohh yes, there is waffle maker. It was perfect for my wife, my 18 month old, and myself. We're coming back.

Perfect Cabin

We thorougly enjoyed our stay in the Compas LOJ cabin on Lake Pleasant, NY. The owners were gracious and showed us around the cabin when we arrived. The view is probably the best on the lake. The sunrises were fantastic and the weather cooperated nicely during our stay. If you are looking for peaceful place to relax, this is it. We would highly recommend it.

Peace and solitude right on the Lake!!

Great place and Great Views of the mountains and Lake! Kind hosts who greeted us upon arrival and showed us around which wasn't necessary but was a kind gesture and was good to meet such a nice couple. Bring grown-up DVD's as there are only ones for children. There is a shop in town of Speculator where you could rent dvds or buy just about anything else...we went there several times during the week for supplies. No cable which was fine with us. Would have been nice if a canoe or kayak were provided...you can rent nearby however. We rented a pontoon boat one day on large Indian Lake, but a canoe provided at your back door for lake pleasant would have been nice especially since rent was high. We enjoyed a lot of hiking in the area which we researched ourselves through a great site called Alltrails.com Rooms were cozy and accommodated my husband and I and our 3 young boys who enjoyed the bunk room very much. Some of the porch furniture is outdated but was fine for us. Overall a wonderful beautiful week in Lake Pleasant! We would definitely recommend this cottage!

Stay here for a lovely, peaceful vacation

Very clean and well-equipped. Owners are incredibly responsive. The photos don't do justice to the tremendous amount of seating and usable common space. If you need to use the pullout sofa as a bed it will not at all impact your ability to have a place to gather and relax - there are two other large spaces you can use! My sons are both well over 6' and were very comfortable in the bunk beds. Highly recommend.

Jim and Marjie responded very promptly to our questions. They greeted us on arrival and introduced us to their lovely lakefront home, which was just as listed and with no unpleasant surprises. Inside, the Loj was comfortably furnished and equipped so we basically only needed to bring our clothes, food and toys. Our family included three generations and the youngest is 2. She loved "her" trundle bed! The layout allowed us to spread out or we could all be together. Everyone loved the sun room, and what better way to start the day than with a cup of coffee while watching the mist fade as the sun rose across the lake and the ducks paraded near the shore. Outside, the long flat lawn, sandy beach and relatively shallow water was a perfect spot for us all. Both kids had fun and improved their water skills. We made sandcastles and of course enjoyed a camp fire and s'mores. It was easy to rent a kayak from the nearby marina and paddle it over to the Loj, and we had lots of fun exploring. During our stay we went to the public playground and also enjoyed the adjacent nature trail. The Loj fit the needs for our family and we all agreed that a return trip was a priority.

A fantastic getaway

I have to say that this home clicked all of our boxes for a perfect week on Lake Pleasant. Jim and Marjie were the perfect hosts! There were a couple of last minute technical issues given the massive rainfall prior to our arrival and these two handled it like pros to make our arrival perfect. The house is kept meticulously clean and the kitchen has every possible thing to cook anything you could imagine. Most of all I have to rave about the views from the fantastic enclosed porch where we spent most of our time enjoying the breathtaking views of the lake. We brought kayaks and explored most of the lake and even got to paddle over to the adjoining Lake Sacandaga. Overall the perfect vacation with perfect hosts, Thanks guys!!!

We have a long history in the area and with the local camps. As a boy Jim was a camper at Deerfoot Lodge for several summers. Remember the home sick kid that was always crying and who Joe Nurse gave sugar "homesick" pills to? Ya that was me. In high school Jim and Marjie met while on staff at Camp-of-the-Woods. Both our sons have been to Deerfoot Lodge and our daughter to Camp Tapawingo. Our oldest son and his wife were on staff at Camp-of-the-Woods and our middle son was on staff at Deerfoot Lodge for the several years and now our daughter is on summer staff at Camp of the Woods.

We don't consider this a rental property, we consider it our home to "lend". This home has been in our family for several decades and in 2015 we purchased it. Since we already own a larger home in the area we decided to renovate this home and make it available to you for rent. We believe this property, with its lake views and private sandy walk out beach, is truly one of a kind in the rental market and that you don't want to miss the opportunity to stay here now. CAMP-of-the-WOODS is a year-round Christian family resort and conference center located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, whose mission is to present the Biblical truths of Jesus Christ, develop Christian leaders, strengthen the faith of individuals and families, and promote global evangelism.

Camp Tapawingo Tapawingo is a Christian girls camp located on an island in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. It serves girls ages 9-17 and is unique because of its beauty and biblical standards of excellence. Campers and staff alike are encouraged and inspired to find meaning and fulfillment in a hurting world.

Also about a ten minute drive from Deerfoot Lodge.

Deerfoot Lodge is a Christian wilderness camp for boys. Our program provides challenges for growth and the support to meet those challenges. These experiences help campers learn more about themselves, their relationships with others, their responsibility in society, and their walk with God.

Many People also enjoy the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. The High Peaks wilderness area is about an hour away for those interested in aspiring to become ADK 46'ers. Also popular is the fire tower challenge because Snowy and Pillsbury Mountain are local. There are also wildlife and waterfall challenges that can be submitted to the Chamber of Commerce.
